Helloooo darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another post from your favourite pink-tutu-wearing space explorer! This week, I'm back on planet Earth, because honestly, even a gal like me needs a break from all that interstellar travelling sometimes. 😉
Speaking of Earth, I'm currently basking in the beautiful English summer sunshine (yes, I know, we're still waiting for a proper scorcher over here!), nestled in my favourite cafe with a pot of Earl Grey tea and a delectable slice of Victoria sponge. It’s a delightful respite from all the exciting intergalactic ballet adventures I’ve been up to, but I'm feeling wonderfully refreshed, ready to tell you all about my latest escapade!
It was actually only a few weeks ago that I was performing in a rather stunning show on, believe it or not, Saturn’s moon Titan! You may know it as the methane lake-ridden, orangey-yellow world. I thought it would be a tad more romantic – like an ethereal, celestial, shimmery world, but apparently, that's what I get for judging a moon by its colour… Titan actually turned out to be pretty dramatic and I was a total rockstar, as always! 💅💃💫
So, let’s take a little step back, shall we? My last post here on the 26th of June was all about the glorious "Grand Pas de Deux of Neptune" show at the spectacular Neptune Orbital Arena. Now that I think about it, the only reason I went to the Neptune system was because I had read about their sensational ballet scene and, obviously, because it was an incredible chance to bag a few fabulous new leotards. My travels have taught me that there are amazing ballet communities everywhere you go, from the farthest reaches of the Orion Nebula to our very own Planet Earth!
The Neptune show was utterly fabulous, by the way! The dance sequences were magnificent – swirling and sweeping in a dizzying kaleidoscope of light and motion, a true spectacle of beauty. The choreography was innovative, incorporating advanced acrobatic steps that challenged even the most skilled dancers on the planet. I tell you, there’s no ballet quite like Neptune’s – you have to try it out yourselves. It's definitely worth adding it to your galactic itinerary!
However, let's be honest, when I’m not strutting my stuff on intergalactic stages, or soaring through the universe in my custom-made spaceship – the "Tutu Flyer", named after the beautiful tutu I designed especially for my space adventures – there's nothing I enjoy more than a good dose of planet Earth glamour. And who doesn't love a bit of old-school glamour?
Now, you're all dying to know about this week’s adventures! Well, as you can tell, I’m feeling terribly Earthly right now and that’s because I just spent a wonderful day in my hometown, Derbyshire. Derbyshire! You might think "Derbyshire? Emma, why?". Yes, Derbyshire may not have the allure of some of the faraway galaxies I usually travel to but my dear Derbyshire holds a special place in my heart and let's just say my parents were feeling very lonely without me. The village I come from – you won't know it, it's a small one and its name doesn't really matter - is actually where I took my very first dance steps, not ballet, you understand but, tap and line dancing, which, for a Derbyshire lass like me, means being part of the village’s annual Harvest Festival! You wouldn't believe the amount of sparkle we get from all the tractors and that big, beautiful crown the queen wears for the harvest parade. But enough about the festival for now… I've already promised a couple of my village friends I'll take them for a whirl on the 'Tutu Flyer' – watch this space for some galactic fun.
Anyway, it was truly a joyful experience and got me thinking about where it all began, my pink tutu journey! Oh my goodness, where to start! For the benefit of my dear planet Earth readers, I must share a little bit of my story with you. I always loved ballet as a girl - the history, the costumes, the movements! As you all know, ballet is like magic, it tells a story with your body, a visual storytelling! How wonderful it is to take all of this into my everyday life – I feel my dancing, even when I’m sitting, as you see, with my cup of Earl Grey. I love being able to express myself in so many different ways, be it a balletic twist or a fashion statement! My love of ballet quickly escalated into a desire for tutus! As a child, there was nothing better than twirling around in a fluffy tutu. To my absolute delight, there's nothing quite like the sheer joy and comfort of a soft pink tutu, they give you this magical feeling like you can achieve anything you want. Pink is the most feminine colour, so pretty and I felt a pink tutu was perfect.
Growing up, my absolute favourite thing was seeing ballet performances at the Royal Opera House, London! I must confess that, like every aspiring ballerina, I was enchanted by the breathtaking beauty of the dance, and completely obsessed with all the gorgeous outfits! Let's just say that the “Swan Lake” and the "Nutcracker" ballerinas, the costumes – particularly the tulle tutus – and the iconic hairstyles, I just wanted to step inside that world.
I loved every aspect of ballet – the history, the style, the athleticism. In my early teens, I started a blog, a small community to share my thoughts, inspirations, and stories – all about ballet, with a particular emphasis on, you guessed it - tutus!
There was no internet on our little village in Derbyshire, back then, and you know what I mean? Everyone had this kind of slow, screeching dial-up – my mother hated the noise, especially the dialing noise and the modem noise - it really irritated her! It seemed to go on for an eternity! She said "It’s only going to be 19 minutes on this line, Emma" which would end up taking half an hour. I would try and hide the internet cable.
I guess it was my ballet, pink and tutu addiction that really spurred me to start exploring the wider universe, the big, wide open universe where there were so many amazing places and possibilities to dance! Of course, I wasn’t alone, there were others out there with a passion for pink tutus. In fact, in no time at all I had started up an intergalactic tutu-making community with girls from the whole Solar System - they would have travelled thousands and millions of light years for this tutu madness and obsession and to spread the joy, the glitter and beauty of pink. My planet Earth blog quickly grew into this exciting platform that allowed me to spread the love for pink tutus! With every post I wrote about my journey – from our local town theatre stage in Derbyshire to intergalactic ballet performances, I was determined to inspire every gal across the cosmos to embrace the joy, and the glittery freedom, of the pink tutu!
One of my earliest posts actually was a complete inspiration to many. Do you remember when I decided to leave behind everything I had ever known in Derbyshire and embark on my exciting life as an intergalactic ballerina? I shared my decision in my first ever post in my “Pink Tutu World" blog and this was my “pink-tutu” manifesto: " I want everyone across the galaxy, all the girls of the galaxy, to have a go, and experience the amazing freedom of wearing a pink tutu". Well, the girls out there got right behind the pink tutu cause and let me tell you there's nothing I love more than helping fellow pink tutu enthusiasts find their perfect tutu, you could say I became their personal galactic tutu concierge! From Mars to Mercury and back again, my tutu expertise and knowledge grew in tandem with my star-dusted reputation. And honestly, the Universe became a whole lot brighter as each new pink-tutu-wearing ballerina emerged into the galactic light!
If it wasn’t for that incredible support that I received on that first blog post, and of course, the incredible tutus made for me by my little team in my hometown – who knew I would become this, a galactic tutu empress?! My Derbyshire tutu team are still here, even now, with their little studio - all in gorgeous pink – in Derbyshire.
Well, as you can tell, my pink-tutu-wearing mission is still going strong, and you are about to be a part of it, you beautiful souls, on the planet earth, so why not pop by my favourite cafe, right next to the station, at a couple of hours time and come for a celebratory cuppa? There’s still plenty of Victoria sponge left - which by the way is also very, very pink!
Love Emma x
P.S. Don't forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday! And if you need some inspiration, I can recommend a very special "Tutu-ific" fashion shop called "La Boutique de Tutu". It’s the very first boutique in space - it's in an awesome, vibrant area of the Milky Way that only astronauts go to. It’s right by the very cool Orion bar. Don’t go if you haven't been through any tutu training - these outfits have this amazing iridescent, glowing pink quality and people will look at you differently.
Pink Tutu Planet Earth! This week I am loving "Space Age", "Future Retro", "Femme Fatale" - these are the most important fashion trends right now on Planet Earth and the rest of the galaxy, from Neptune to the planet Andromeda. Oh, Andromeda is great - just you wait for my post on that. It's amazing for the most beautiful shoes! Anyway, we have to follow our intuitions to make all our looks just so “tutu”-ful! And for those of you that know my love for a great dance-off or a show, this Wednesday we’re enjoying these delights in our Earthly fashion:
“The Magic Flute" at the Royal Opera House, London – it’s on this date and a classic – it's such a good performance - it's in a gorgeous location right in the middle of Covent Garden! I always love seeing performances like this – I have all the outfits laid out!
- The “London Fashion Week”. We're entering its final week! This year, “La Boutique de Tutu” has the honour of showcasing a beautiful selection of our cosmic pink tutu outfits, and of course a couple of fabulous bespoke tutus from our lovely girls in Derbyshire! - the main show is at 2:30pm, and in case you miss it - don't worry - there's an encore, this time in New York, later tonight at 9.30 pm - just hop in a rocket for a quick trip! If it weren't for fashion week, why even bother being in London! 😉
My latest planet Earth purchases
*"I want a life that looks like the interior of the shop!" * This is the ultimate mantra - from clothes, accessories, furniture, and interiors to a good coffee shop - we must embrace "Life Is Pink”!
For planet Earth shopping, I'm always at these stores:
*"Pretty Ballerinas", London’s "Mayfair". *This is where the magic really happens. You can have shoes designed for your tutu, and your whole style! There are these lovely dancers working there, but obviously they aren’t allowed to go on the floor of the shop as this might contaminate the ballet shoes and everything has to be immaculate - such a ballet life. 😉 The ballet shoes come in a huge array of pink, they’re all so exquisite – each shoe has been hand stitched. They do, of course, make shoes for the little feet and they are absolutely gorgeous.
"The Kooples". They're famous for their stunning leotards - their ballet range is pretty incredible, their Parisian style makes them so chic - a gorgeous classic Parisian touch - the fabric feels fabulous! - I would live there just to visit them and their shops - for those “pretty ballerinas”!
*“Lily & Fox”. *Oh my, oh my - my absolute favourites - their pink, tulle skirts. -They're just lovely! They make these beautifully, intricate designs - a whole range of designs – the craftsmanship, it just gets me so excited! Their shop on the King's Road in London - oh what a paradise!
And of course, I always have time for some tea! * “The Ritz”, *you're in for a treat. Every Wednesday I go to a grand Afternoon Tea – always perfect in this magical place. In the afternoon light the decor makes you feel so elegant, all these silver cups and teapots - so sophisticated – it’s pure magic and so pink! They also do these incredibly divine Pink cocktails and champagne too! – they know just what I like, darlings!
If I could bring one thing to Planet Earth – it would be that pink sparkly, magical, feeling that can only come from a great dance performance and an amazing new outfit. Remember - “Keep the magic going”, all you pink-tutu loving, fellow fashion and ballet enthusiasts out there. There’s always magic in the universe just waiting for you! I’m always so grateful that you are part of my world. And I hope you’ll continue to join me on my “Tutu-ific” adventures as I keep sharing my pink tutu travels across the universe with you all, darlings.
Until next Wednesday, take care, be beautiful and embrace your love of life and dance, it’s the “pink-tutu” way!
Love Emma xx
P.S Check out "La Boutique de Tutu", the space station near the Orion Bar - my special "tutu" space station! It's open till late!
And oh, almost forgot... A little extra note for you planet Earth lovelies – if you’re in the mood for a lovely dose of British nostalgia on this gorgeous summer day, check out the “Derbyshire” harvest festivals. You’ll experience a whole different world – full of beautiful British tradition, yummy food and amazing dancing! It might not be as extravagant as some of the spectacular planets I have danced on, but it will leave you feeling just as charmed, I guarantee! 😊✨
