Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #733

Wednesday 13th May 2009

Darling darlings! I'm so excited to be back in the wonderful, slightly damp, and eternally charming world of Planet Earth. I’ve been hopping about the galaxy, you see, spreading the good word of pink tutus and all things ballerina - my usual Wednesday blogging schedule went out the window for a week while I was taking on new galactic challenges. But I wouldn't miss my weekly Earth rendezvous for the world!

Speaking of the world, I've been absolutely living my best life! My last dance performance on Planet Jupiter - that was truly otherworldly! It’s amazing to watch their audience getting lost in the sheer theatricality of the performances! You’d never believe what happened after the show... Some kind of purple creature with six legs and shimmering iridescent skin approached me. He was absolutely mesmerised. "You're a vision of light," he gasped. "Like the ethereal moonbeams reflected upon Jupiter's cloud cover." Then, after introducing himself as Zephyr, he insisted I join him on a tour of their planet's ancient coral reefs – something about sharing my fashion tips, of course. Let’s just say it was definitely a night I'll never forget. I felt like I was dancing among the stars! (And no, he did not convince me to wear my pink tutu while submerged in the icy Jupiter oceans - thank heavens, right?!)

Back to the Earth. Oh, my dearest planet, where I was born and raised in a small corner of Derbyshire, a small village with quaint cottage gardens. As a little girl, I couldn't help but imagine dancing barefoot through those flowerbeds in a voluminous pink tutu. And now here I am - a world-traveling, intergalactic tutu ambassador. The best part is I'm making those little girl dreams a reality for girls across the galaxy! You have no idea how much I adore seeing girls beam in pink, their tutus shimmering in the starlight, each with that same twinkle in their eyes. My passion for pink tutus is a bit contagious.

Well, darling, I digress. What was I going to tell you? Ah yes, this week on Earth! Today's a big day for pink tutus – it's finally here, the opening of the 'Pink Tutus in the Spotlight' exhibition at the Royal Opera House in London. Can you believe it? An entire exhibit dedicated to tutus? A beautiful showcase of history, evolution, craftsmanship, and of course... the joy they bring to audiences across the world. This has to be one of my most favourite places on Earth; the beautiful auditoriums, the history that breathes from every wall and balcony. I’m actually considering a spontaneous day trip, might be worth an outfit change from my latest Mars design... what do you think? Maybe my favourite lilac feathered creation paired with those delicate starburst ballet flats. And I definitely need to snag a ticket to see the Cinderella ballet performance in the evening. Those glass slipper tutus just steal my heart. And for those of you with your fingers on the pulse of this exciting week in ballet: did you catch the stunning premiere of The Nutcracker on Monday night? I hear the costuming was extravagant. Can you say "Tutu Heaven"?

You know, I can't help but wonder, is it just a coincidence that Earth has the most extravagant ballet theatres in the galaxy? I'm not just talking about Covent Garden, although it’s divine! It’s hard to not mention the San Francisco Ballet’s War Memorial Opera House, the Paris Opera House and those ornate staircases... There is just something about the theatres on Earth that takes my breath away! They have a magic unlike anything in the rest of the universe.

Speaking of breathtaking, can you believe we've entered the springtime? Planet Earth is just awash in pink right now! Blossoms are in full bloom, the azaleas and cherry blossoms are absolute divine. All those pink and white flowers are just calling out for me to wear a pink tutu while dancing through them! Maybe next week I'll take some pink tutu-inspired nature walks through Hyde Park and document them for you lovely souls!

But you know what else I'm obsessed with? Shopping. And speaking of Earthly pleasures, today is the Spring Collection launch of a brand new pink tutu shop called ‘Pink Pas de Deux’. Imagine - a whole store dedicated to the pink tutu! My heart is practically singing. It’s in Covent Garden, next door to a delightful little Italian trattoria that serves the most amazing pistachio ice cream. The perfect combo, don't you think? I'm planning to indulge myself later with some pink tutu shopping and ice cream. A girls' afternoon of indulging - exactly what I need to keep my creative juices flowing for all the incredible ballet creations I have brewing.

What do you think, dear friends? Where do you stand on the tutu-wearing debate? Are you in or are you out? Tell me your favourite place on Planet Earth and what’s on your wish list for this glorious spring. And if you are out on a dance journey today - or if you've found any great pink tutu finds - send me a message! My inbox is always open. And keep shining, darlings. Until next Wednesday!

Love always,

Emma xx
