Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - #836

Wednesday, 4th May 2011

Dearest Tutu-lovers,

It’s me, Emma, your intrepid pink tutu-clad explorer, and this week, I’m beaming back to you live from Planet Earth! Oh, you know, just another day in the life of a ballerina who lives to dance among the stars… Well, mostly anyway.

This time around, my trusty spaceship "Twirl-o-matic" brought me to the heart of Derbyshire, England - my home county - to delve into a bit of Earthly ballet history. You wouldn't believe the gorgeous vintage ballet shops they have over here! My favourite? "The Ballerina's Attic" – absolutely jam-packed with sequined slippers, satin bodices and tutus, of course! Even some tutus from the 1920s! My inner fashionista (and well, who isn't a fashionista when wearing a pink tutu?) was doing the happy dance.

A Ballet Lover’s Paradise

You see, here on Planet Earth, they have this amazing tradition of ballet. For hundreds of years, ballerinas and dancers have been gracing the stages, spreading their joy of dance across the globe. And they’ve been doing it all while wearing some absolutely stunning tutus. Just last week, I managed to see a breathtaking production of "Swan Lake" - talk about dramatic tutus! They floated so effortlessly around the stage and each turn was pure magic.

It got me thinking about how our ballet and tutu heritage is truly intergalactic. Just like how we, on Pink Tutu World, continue to push boundaries and embrace all that is wonderful in the world of dance, these dancers of old were just as brave. I’m talking, tutus that would put the most fabulous galactic dancer to shame, made with all the intricate details. Oh, how I would love to have their outfits! A true reminder that when it comes to fashion, there are no limitations!

A Fashion Show to Die For!

Before jetting off, I managed to pop by the National Theatre for an extraordinary ballet performance! The audience was absolutely enraptured with their exquisite artistry - you could feel the passion, the skill, and the sheer dedication that each dancer poured into every single step. After the performance, I made a bee-line to their “gift shop” which, believe me, is anything but ordinary. I was absolutely thrilled to add another set of feather boa-ed ballerina slippers to my collection! And oh my goodness, the variety of fabrics and colours - the inspiration just kept flowing!

I am so happy to share all my adventures, fashion findings, and inspiration with you. You know, you could say my planet-hopping is a way to keep my pink tutu spirit alive - sharing its infectious joy and magic. This week's performance even allowed me to share the thrill of a cosmic pirouette with a little Earthling who’d just received her first pair of pointe shoes. I told her that she could achieve anything she wanted to with them - after all, the world is her stage!

I have a whole galactic schedule planned for next week! I am hoping to travel through some of those gorgeous galactic dance floors and meet other dancers on other planets, possibly for a collaborative performance. You know, for a truly spectacular intergalactic ballet gala. Maybe we can put together an Earthly dance troupe – just think of all the costumes! I'll let you all know about my progress!

But before I take off again, I must tell you, darling tutulovers, there are still some fabulous earthly ballet performances you must experience on your travels!

  • If you are heading to London this week, don’t miss out on the stunning contemporary ballet at The Royal Opera House!
  • For an uplifting performance that will put you in a festive mood, head over to The Sadler’s Wells in London and watch the talented dancers of the Royal Ballet perform "Nutcracker."

Oh, and did I mention? Don’t forget to add a little pink to your ballet wear this week, my loves. Because you know, even on this lovely planet Earth, every day is an opportunity to spread the love of ballet and the pink tutu power!

Stay twirly,

Emma x

P.S - Have you noticed my fabulous new sparkly pink space helmet? I just think it goes with my new tutu…
