Hello, my dearest darlings! It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-loving space traveller, and I'm bursting with excitement to share another out-of-this-world adventure with you!
As always, you can find this post on my little corner of the internet at www.pink-tutu.com - the most dazzling, pinkest blog in the universe! (It's a bold statement, I know, but I stand by it. ๐)
This week's entry marks post number 841, a truly auspicious number - like the twirls in a perfect pirouette! It feels like just yesterday I was dreaming of intergalactic travel and ballet under the stars. Now, here I am, spinning across galaxies, sharing my love of tutus and twirling with you all! It's a journey that wouldn't be possible without my amazing fans - you, my dearest ballet-loving dreamers!
Remember my last post? We explored the enchanting world of ballet on Planet Vulcan, a vibrant purple and teal wonderland. Today, though, we're returning to dear ol' Planet Earth, a place I hold dear despite its occasional downpours (that pink tutu can be a bit tricky in a downpour, wouldn't you agree? ๐ค).
This Wednesday, June 8th, 2011, finds me in London! It's always a delight to return to the birthplace of so many fabulous fashion trends, the most glorious museums and, of course, the Royal Ballet! They're putting on a special performance tonight of "The Nutcracker" and, oh my goodness, my inner ballerina is practically levitating! I just love the magic of this story. From Clara's fantastical dreams to the Sugar Plum Fairy's elegant grace, there's something so wonderfully enchanting about it.
The sheer brilliance of Tchaikovsky's score, the dazzling costumes (have you ever seen a more perfect ballerina dress than the Sugar Plum Fairy's? It's like a ballet dream come true!), and the pure joy of dancing - I truly believe ballet is a language spoken across the galaxy, one that transcends cultures and languages!
But before we get too carried away by the world of dance, let's delve into some fun trivia! Today, we're celebrating the legacy of Rudolf Nureyev! The legendary dancer was born on this very day in 1938. Did you know, darlings, that he was originally from Ufa, Russia? He defected to the West and became a legend, challenging the rigid formality of classic ballet and introducing new and more modern expressions! How inspiring, isn't it? It's a reminder that passion, daring and, yes, even a little bit of pink tutu, can take you far beyond the ordinary.
Speaking of inspiration, today's trip was a dream come true! I took a special visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum where they have an incredible collection of fashion and design. Oh, my darlings, the tutu collection was simply breathtaking! You wouldn't believe the intricate designs, the colours, and the delicate embellishments - from silk and satin to feathers and even real jewels, these tutus were truly works of art. There were examples from all over the world and different time periods - and I swear I saw a glimpse of inspiration for future pink tutu designs!
Of course, no visit to London is complete without a visit to a proper old-fashioned tea shop! Can you believe the last one I tried had pink tutu teacups and saucers?! They were even adorned with little dancing figurines. Now, I just have to tell you about the pastries! Little tea cakes with pink icing, delicious finger sandwiches, and those wonderfully delicate scones with clotted cream - simply heavenly!
It's all about the experience, darlings. The deliciousness of the food, the exquisite designs in the museums, the inspiring dance performance - and of course, a sprinkle of pink tutu magic. Because when youโre wearing a pink tutu, itโs never just about the outfit, it's a celebration of femininity, of joy, of living life to the fullest!
As I write this, my spaceship is getting ready for departure. Tonight, after the "Nutcracker", I'm setting my sights on the Eiffel Tower! Can you imagine how magical the view will be from the top of that iconic monument? Oh, and I heard a whisper of a delightful vintage Parisian flea market nearby, a perfect spot to search for pink tutu treasures!
My darlings, stay tuned next week for more of my galactic adventures! We'll explore another exciting planet, delve into the fascinating history of the ballet, and share more fun facts and fashionable discoveries. But for now, itโs time to pack my pink tutu for a journey filled with sparkling Parisian lights, and even more twinkling ballet dreams. Until then, dance on, darlings! ๐โจ
Now, onto this week's โFun Facts with Emmaโ segment! Did you know:
- The original tutu was actually called a "tutu-tutu" in the early 19th century? Fancy, right?
- Some ballerinas choose their own shoes to wear on stage, and they often take a lot of time finding the perfect fit. The ballet shoes, as they call them, are crafted using delicate fabrics, sometimes using leather as the base for a softer, comfortable experience.
- *In England, Derby was once a major hub of the textile industry. It was famous for producing high-quality lace, ribbons and even ballet fabrics, so, funnily enough, the planet Earth could be considered to be "Tutu Land!" It was right next door to my hometown and that is a place I will always call home. It was in this exact place that I got my very first pink tutu at age six and my love of the colour and fashion never left! *
Don't forget to subscribe to my website at www.pink-tutu.com for exclusive updates, extra posts, and, most importantly, my daily "Pink Tutu Pick", a fashion highlight from my global travels!
I'm so glad we can share these adventures together, my sweet ballet-loving dreamers. Until next time, stay twirling! ๐
**XOXO,
Emma**
