Hello my darlings! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another instalment of my Pink Tutu World blog. This week, I'm back on dear old Planet Earth, and let me tell you, it feels absolutely divine to be back amongst the fresh air and the quaint, familiar streets of Derbyshire. I do so adore the bustle and chaos of intergalactic travel, but sometimes there's nothing quite like the simplicity of a good old-fashioned Earthly adventure.
But before we get to the fun stuff, let's catch up with the week's ballet news!
This week, I'm utterly enthralled with the "Ballet ร la Russe" exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Oh my, the sheer opulence and artistry of it all! They've got everything from beautiful original costumes to stunning sketches of historical ballets. I couldn't resist treating myself to a reproduction of Anna Pavlova's iconic "Dying Swan" costume, which I'm thinking of wearing to my next performance at the local theatre - how chic would that be?!
Speaking of performances, I was also lucky enough to see a rather remarkable performance by the English National Ballet at the Coliseum. They were showcasing a triple bill, which included a contemporary piece by Wayne McGregor and two absolute classics: "La Sylphide" and "Don Quixote". Now, you all know how much I adore the classics, so it was absolutely magical to witness these stories brought to life on stage. And let's not forget the fabulous costumes - especially those fluttering tutus in "La Sylphide", they were absolutely breathtaking.
On a rather less theatrical, but equally delightful note, I stumbled upon the most exquisite vintage tutu shop just outside Covent Garden. It's tucked away on a narrow side street, and it's chock-full of all sorts of forgotten treasures โ perfect for the vintage enthusiast in me. I found a stunning lilac tutu, oh so very dreamy, and of course, it instantly became mine! You know, there's just something so enchanting about a good vintage tutu โ a bit like discovering a hidden gem, and there's always a captivating story behind them.
And as for my Pink Tutu World escapades, well, let's just say I've had my fill of adventures! You see, this week I ventured to the magical planet of Lyra-6, a dazzling planet of rainbows, glitter, and sparkling waters. Imagine, dear reader, a whole planet dedicated to the colours of the rainbow! And what's even more incredible is that all the Lyrans wear stunning tutus made of shimmering rainbows and flowing nebulae, like something out of a celestial ballet! It was utterly magical.
We're getting close to the festive season, so I thought it'd be lovely to share some holiday tips for my fellow space-faring tutu lovers:
Emma's Festive Travel Tips for the Space-Age Ballerina:
- Pack your favourite tutus! No holiday is complete without at least three of your best sparkly, festive numbers. Don't be afraid to experiment with some extra-sparkly accents for a truly intergalactic look!
- Get those twinkle toes ready! Festive galas are everywhere you go, so get ready to showcase those elegant moves. After all, every moment is a chance to spread the magic of ballet!
- Embrace the festive spirit! Take this opportunity to wear festive-themed tutus! Red, green, and silver are perfect choices, but be bold with metallics, sequins and a touch of cosmic dust.
- Stay Hydrated! Space travel can be quite dehydrating. Remember to stay hydrated and your dancing shoes won't slip as you pirouette around the universe!
Now, back to my Earthly adventures. I took the liberty of booking myself a show at the National Theatre tonight! I heard it's a production of "The Winter's Tale" by Shakespeare, which just begs for a dramatic and regal interpretation, wouldn't you say? The theatre will be resplendent in velvet and shimmering lights, the perfect backdrop for a glamorous evening! Of course, I'm wearing a brand-new pink sequined tutu and my favourite ruby red pumps โ after all, you know I'm not one to miss an opportunity to add a touch of tutu magic to every occasion.
So, before I whisk off to my theatrical outing, let me leave you with a little question. What's your ultimate tutu fantasy? Do you imagine yourself twirling under a waterfall of diamonds or floating on a cloud of silver stardust? Let me know in the comments!
Until next Wednesday, darling, stay fabulously pink and keep twirling!
With love, Emma
