Pink Tutu World: Planet Earth - Post #882

Wednesday, 21st March 2012

Hello my dearest Tutu-lovers! It's me, your favourite ballerina blogger, Emma from Derbyshire, England! I'm just back from another exhilarating adventure across the cosmos and I am bursting to share all the glittery, twirly details with you!

This week, it's all about Planet Earth! Yes, our very own little blue and green gem, tucked away in a quiet corner of the Milky Way. This is where I started, of course, where my love for ballet, tutus, and pink first bloomed.

You may be wondering, what was so special about returning to Earth on the 21st of March, 2012? Well, dear friends, it was the Spring Equinox! This celestial event, where day and night are perfectly balanced, holds a special significance for me, a dancer who loves symmetry and harmony. The spring equinox signifies rebirth, renewal, and a chance to embrace the beautiful blossoming of new beginnings! And who better to welcome the spring than your favourite Pink Tutu ambassador?

Now, before we get into the swirling fun, let's take a trip down memory lane. Back in 2012, Planet Earth was abuzz with excitement about a supposed end of the world. It seemed a rather melodramatic way to usher in spring, wouldn't you agree? I, however, wasn't worried. As a space-travelling, tutu-wearing ballerina, I knew there was nothing to fear! I saw it as an opportunity for a celestial makeover - and an opportunity to remind everyone that life is about joy, laughter, and dancing!

Back to the Pink Tutu Fun:

I started my trip back to Earth with a dazzling ballet performance, in the magnificent Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. I simply had to show off my newest tutu – a breathtaking confection of pastel pink, sparkling with a constellation of Swarovski crystals. It was a perfect choice for the occasion!

Afterwards, it was off to London’s vibrant Soho district, to browse for new treasures at “Vintage Heaven”. You see, my darling friends, my passion for tutus goes way beyond just wearing them. I am absolutely fascinated by the history of this glorious garment – how it's evolved, transformed, and inspired countless designers through the ages. I adore hunting down those unique, one-off pieces from vintage shops, often discovering hidden gems from bygone eras, which reveal the intricate stories of dancers and their graceful companions: tutus!

For this visit to Earth, I decided to embrace a more earthy vibe - think "wildflower tutu"! I found the perfect one – a cascading waterfall of vibrant pink silk, embroidered with a beautiful meadow of forget-me-nots. I couldn't wait to take it for a spin – a graceful twirl through the bustling streets of London!

And speaking of twirls, what's a visit to Earth without a ballet class? I signed up for a beginners' ballet class at the lovely Dance School in Battersea Park. Now, you may think that I, a seasoned intergalactic ballerina, wouldn't find anything to learn at a beginners’ class – but I was so wrong! You know, my darlings, the beauty of dance is that it is an endless journey, with a constant learning curve, and it always brings new challenges. These beginners’ lessons were such fun, so relaxed – a perfect chance to refine my techniques. Besides, you never know what little secrets of ballet technique you may discover from these beginners' classes, because you see, my loves, there is always more to learn about ballet! Even seasoned performers like me can learn something new from a new generation of tutu lovers, dancers, and artists! It's this fresh energy that makes the world of dance so exciting!

The class itself was a delight. We worked on some beautiful stretches and elegant movements, with everyone laughing and encouraging one another. My lovely tutor, a kind and patient woman, called her classes 'tutu time', and for once I wasn’t the only one wearing one!

My adventures didn't end there! After a delightful afternoon at a vintage tea room in Richmond, where I discovered the most divine cupcakes - pink of course! – I hopped on a spaceship and set course for Paris! Oh, la la! It always makes me so happy to be back in the City of Light, the capital of chic. I had the greatest fun exploring the city in my pink “Parisienne Chic” tutu, which is covered in glittering Eiffel Towers, adorned with a matching headband – trĂšs Ă©lĂ©gant!

We strolled through the Marais, the Louvre Museum, and had the most charming little picnic on the steps of Notre Dame Cathedral.

That evening, I indulged my love for theatre and dance with a visit to the OpĂ©ra Garnier, a dazzling palace of opera and ballet, with its opulent chandeliers and incredible acoustics! I was mesmerised by the production of “Swan Lake” which was stunning! Of course, I was totally enthralled with the swan costumes, especially the black swans’ bold, dramatic tutus and their incredible graceful and elegant movements.

The entire city seemed to be buzzing with excitement for the Paris Fashion Week, and my travelogue just wouldn't be complete without a little fashion splurge! As you can probably tell, I adore clothes shopping and it simply makes me so happy to be surrounded by fabrics, sequins, and a rainbow of gorgeous colours!

Some Top Shopping Tips for Every Fashionista:

  • Make time for yourself: A little retail therapy never hurt anyone. Treat yourself to a special shopping trip.

  • Accessorize: The perfect accessory can completely elevate any outfit! And nothing works better with a pink tutu, than pink jewellery!
  • Embrace pink: Embrace the power of pink! It's versatile, charming, and truly magnificent.

I confess, I did get a little carried away! My luggage was packed to bursting with tutus and a little pink sequined clutch from “Chanel”.

I always have my eye on a stunning, luxurious, sequined pink “Dior” clutch which I hope to have one day soon! It's definitely going on my “pink-tutu-wishlist!”

With a little bit of Parisian glitter in my heart and some fabulous tutus in my suitcase, I said “au revoir” to France, and set course back to the bright lights of London.

And for the Grand Finale of this fabulous trip to Earth, I performed a show-stopping ballet at the London Palladium! The audience were completely captivated, as I spun through the air, wearing my newest creation – a beautiful tutu designed to mirror the glittering night sky. It was a moment of joy, wonder, and sheer tutu-fulfilment!

I am back in the galaxy now, soaring towards new destinations and discovering new pink tutus – after all, it's my mission to get the entire Universe wearing pink tutus.
