Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, here with another dazzling update from Planet Earth. This week I've been embracing all things pink, twirling, and decidedly Earth-bound.
And yes, before you ask, it's Wednesday again! So let's kick off the week with a dose of girly-glam goodness, shall we?
The 21st of November is just around the corner and I have a little secret I can't keep any longer! On this glorious day, there's a ballet spectacular at the gorgeous National Theatre right here in London. It's going to be absolutely fabulous! It's the world premiere of a brand-new production of Swan Lake. I know, I know, you're all thinking 'Emma, you love Swan Lake!', and you'd be right! But this one is going to be special. The costume design is pink perfection, inspired by vintage ballet sketches, and there are rumours of shimmering feathered tutus, oh darling! I absolutely cannot wait.
After the performance, we're taking a trip to Liberty's to get a little something sparkly. And of course, I'm on the lookout for the most fabulous pink tutu to go with the occasion. It might be tricky but when I see it, you'll know it! Because let's face it, every day is a tutu occasion 💖
Tutu History
Speaking of tutus, I thought it would be lovely to take a peek back in time to celebrate their iconic history, right? Because even the most fashionable, fabulous pink tutu, has a story to tell.
Now, we all know that tutus are absolutely essential for ballet - who can imagine the exquisite lines of a ballerina without that iconic bell-shaped tutu fluttering and twirling? They bring us back to stories of fairies and ballerinas dancing under a shimmering sky of starlit jewels!
* But did you know that the tutu came about rather by accident? * Well, sort of. During the Victorian Era, ballet was evolving. They were tired of heavy layers of frilled, voluminous, skirt-like things that were hindering graceful movement. So a dance instructor called Marie Taglioni came along and dared to change everything. She redesigned the traditional heavy ballerina outfit and, voila!, the tutu as we know it was born!
A revolutionary little garment, don't you think?
Imagine if someone hadn't made that change? What would ballet look like today without that iconic flowing form? I mean, it wouldn't be the same, would it?
It’s remarkable to think that the tiny little change led to such a lasting impact on dance fashion. That’s the joy of ballet. It’s constantly evolving! I’m actually fascinated by its history and how even little changes make a huge difference in dance. It's quite extraordinary, really.
### London Lights
The first time I travelled from Derbyshire to London, I couldn't believe the twinkling city lights! I felt as though I had stepped right into a stage production - you know, one of those glittering musicals with dancing girls, shiny costumes, and dazzling stages? Well, it just felt like that, darling!
London always fills my soul with such joy, with a thrilling energy that makes you feel like anything is possible. I'm a firm believer in letting every day be a special day and in that regard, London always hits the spot!
