Hello, my lovely tutu-ettes!
Welcome back to Pink Tutu World, where the only rule is to twirl with joy! Today I'm back on good old Planet Earth, after a whirlwind tour of the Andromeda Galaxy - what a sight! But even after dancing amidst nebulas and moonlit constellations, I must say there's no place like home for a proper ballet performance!
Today, I'm brimming with excitement, as you know this date holds a special place in my heart - the anniversary of the first time I saw a proper ballet show! I was six years old, and it was "The Nutcracker" in Derby Theatre. Can you believe I haven't seen a show in Derby since! Iâll need to remedy that!
Of course, no birthday celebration for a ballet-loving lass is complete without a new tutu. I had to make a quick pit stop at my favourite boutique in London - Twirl & Whirl. It's like a ballet shop dreamland! I picked up a darling, light-as-air, cloud-like tulle number. It's the most vibrant shade of pink you've ever seen, and you bet, it'll be making an appearance on my next cosmic voyage.
And letâs be honest, when was the last time we had a good chat about tutus?! These wonderful little pieces of fabric hold so much history. Youâd be amazed how far back they go. Way before the iconic costumes worn by dancers like Margot Fonteyn and Anna Pavlova. I found a picture of a dancer in 15th-century Italy, wearing what could be the earliest documented tutu, though obviously not in pink!
Talking about dancers of yesteryear, my recent trip took me to the historical heart of Ballet Russes in Paris, and my, oh my, Iâm completely enthralled by their artistry and costumes. A real fusion of dance, design and, dare I say it, even drama! Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a stunning emerald-green satin tutu in a vintage store - practically new! Now thatâs an authentic Parisian touch.
Speaking of vintage, it's not all about ballet. On this adventure, I also delved into the glorious world of vintage fashion. Remember that time I stumbled upon a 1920s dress that could have been straight out of âThe Great Gatsbyâ? Oh, and did you see that fabulously dramatic fur stole I picked up in that antique shop in Moscow?! It's the most elegant and practical piece for keeping away the cosmic cold.
I did say practical, right? Sometimes, when traversing the vast cosmos, it's not all champagne and glitter. I do have a little confession: I found myself, for one hilarious intergalactic moment, tangled in a very stubborn black hole's gravitational pull, clutching a delicate antique crystal slipper that threatened to become space debris! Fortunately, my emergency spaceship toolkit saved the day. Luckily, that little incident wasn't caught on the space-tube cameras!
However, we can't be always jetting through the Milky Way - much as I adore space travel. I have to say, one of my favourite aspects of being on Planet Earth is discovering the exciting fusion of dance with street performance. From breakdancing in Londonâs Trafalgar Square to tap-dancing flash mobs in Tokyoâs Shibuya district - these impromptu spectacles are exhilarating! And guess what? I managed to score a limited-edition tutu for every city I visited â all vibrant hues, just for the occasion!
Back to ballet shows, right now, I'm completely besotted with The Royal Ballet in London - especially their latest production of Romeo and Juliet. Can I just say, their interpretation of this classic love story left me speechless? There was just so much drama, passion, and technical brilliance. And you know me, I just canât resist a show in a beautiful venue! Covent Garden is just stunning! I snapped a quick photo in front of the famous chandelier, just for you lovely readers. (Stay tuned - itâll be on my PinkTutuWorld Insta shortly.)
Itâs almost impossible to end this weekâs post without mentioning my own shows! My last performance was a bit of a departure. I collaborated with the wonderfully eccentric London-based âEccentric Dance Theatreâ for their new ballet performance - an exploration of the themes of 'Wonder and Joyâ in all its dazzling extravagance! I wore a shimmering emerald green costume with pink ballet shoes. Of course, with just a little bit of my Pink Tutu magic sprinkled in - can you tell I'm obsessed with adding pink?
Before I get carried away on this theme, I better sign off! Stay tuned next week for more intergalactic travel, dance stories and adventures, but most of all remember: youâre all stunning, and remember, there's a Pink Tutu for everyone out there - it just takes a little cosmic exploration! Until next Wednesday, twirl on!
Lots of Love and Pink Tutu Wishes,
