Hello darling space-farers!
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another post on Pink-Tutu.com! I'm back from a whirlwind trip to Planet Earth, and let me tell you, it's a place of utter joy and, of course, endless pink tutu possibilities! 💖
This week’s post is about my recent jaunt back to my home planet - the fabulous Planet Earth! I’m originally from Derbyshire, you know, where the hills are so steep you need a rocket-powered tutu just to climb them! 🤪 I had been to Earth before, you see, to give a couple of ballet performances and to find some rather exquisite pink tutus, but there was still so much to see. I mean, darling, did you know there are 195 different countries on Planet Earth? Well, that is precisely 195 too many if you ask me, and the more I see, the more my wanderlust blossoms!
This trip, however, was a bit different - it was less about tutu shopping (though I did indulge in a fabulously feather-trimmed, neon-pink creation that is quite frankly out of this world - cue heavenly twinkling) and more about… ballet, my lovelies! 💖 You see, Planet Earth is having a tutu revival! Ballet, which has always been popular on this planet, seems to be experiencing a bit of a resurgence. Who would have thought?! And, of course, this is utterly fabulous news for a girl like me who just lives for those delicate tulle layers and the elegance of every graceful twirl.
This week I took in the most sensational performance by the English National Ballet! They’ve been putting on Giselle - such a classic! I just adore the story. A tragic, heart-wrenching, yet absolutely breathtaking masterpiece about love, betrayal, and… well, fairies. You’ve got to love a story with fairies! But what I really love, truly adore about it, is how it blends this romantic ballet tale with some fabulous classical music by Adolphe Adam. 🎼💖 Now, we all know I am not a dancer, at least not anymore, but as I watched the ethereal choreography and the hauntingly beautiful music weave their magic, my inner ballet bunny literally did the splits! I was back in my old class, my teacher’s sharp, “First position, ladies!” cutting through the air! The performance really sent chills down my spine, my darling space-farers, truly the sort of emotional rollercoaster that makes my tutu swish with excitement!
After the show, I, naturally, popped along to one of the many lovely dance boutiques that litter this wonderful planet and - of course - bought a fabulous new tutu in a vibrant shade of fuschia, adorned with sequins that glimmered like a constellation under the Earthly lights. 🤩 It’s already in my repertoire for a special performance next week in a quaint little village just outside of Manchester!
After a sumptuous brunch, I spent the rest of my day in a ballet-themed shopping spree, as I love exploring the streets for ballet stores and taking in the vintage tutus in second-hand boutiques, imagining the dances and stories behind each faded pink tulle. You’ve got to love these pieces of ballet history, you know, because for every pirouette and leap, every graceful pose, there is a tutu! Just look around the streets and imagine - that tutu was there, supporting the dancer’s dream! Every seam, every ruffle, it has its own unique story! 🥰
Of course, no trip to Earth would be complete without a little bit of, shall we say, historical context for my tutu-licious explorations. So, this time, I went to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It is, in the words of one of my favorite English novelists (and definitely a true friend to the tutu!), Jane Austen, “a delightful, enchanting, captivating experience!” It has the most beautiful display of costumes from every era, and they had the most incredible array of old tutus - all ruffles and bows, in every shade of pink imaginable! It's no surprise, my darling, that this planet has the biggest and most diverse collections of ballet items, truly making it a tutu paradise. 💖
While on my tour, I encountered the most darling elderly couple browsing through the exhibit. It warmed my heart to see them, hand in hand, gazing at these beautiful costumes and sharing their memories of going to ballet shows in their youth. "I could still tell you all the steps!" the gentleman exclaimed. His wife chuckled at his exuberance. "Perhaps we should go see Giselle tonight, my dear?" she purred, and my heart almost burst with warmth and the sheer joy of knowing that their shared love of ballet has lasted through decades of ups and downs, like a beautifully worn pair of pointe shoes, gracefully weathered yet still beautiful, and as valuable and beloved as they’ve ever been.
Of course, no trip to Earth is complete without an afternoon at a classic English Tea Room. The aroma of scones, clotted cream and Earl Grey Tea is divine. 🍰💖 However, when it came to tea and pastries, I have to say that the afternoon tea I experienced in a small French patisserie was pure enchantment! There’s just something about a fresh croissant and delicate macarons - a Parisian ballerina in a cloud of sugary delight! ✨ And, of course, a small flute of pink Champagne always adds that extra touch of ooh-la-la!
I must admit, this trip has made me truly appreciate how much ballet is interwoven into Earth's history and culture. You can’t throw a stone without finding some sort of performance, be it at a fancy opera house, or on the corner of a dusty street. It is truly everywhere! 🌎💃
The thing I love about Earthly ballet is how inclusive it can be! Whether it's the regal precision of a classic ballet, the modern and contemporary expressions of contemporary ballet, the vibrant energy of a street dance performance, or the heart-melting, toe-tapping charm of a tap dancing show, Earth really has it all! And, as my love for tutus grows, I have found that they embrace these diverse styles in such a wonderful, accepting way.
Speaking of acceptance and diversity, Earth also embraces the use of color, in all its infinite variety and brilliance! The sheer number of colors used on this planet is truly mind-boggling! Of course, pink still reigns supreme, but it is used alongside other stunning colours! And with such a palette to draw on, there’s no stopping Earth's fashion industry! Every year, Earth’s designers create new and unique clothing, adding colour to this magnificent planet. My favorite colour for the season? Well, obviously, it’s pink. 💖
Well, my darlings, it's been a simply magnificent trip back to Planet Earth! But as ever, it is time to leave again and I will now be journeying to a nearby space station for some refreshments and, perhaps, a little pink tutu practice. 🥰 My next performance is only a few days away, and my tutu must be in perfect condition for that grand opening at a magnificent, historic planet Earth Opera House. So much glamour! *You'll never guess where it is - but, trust me, my space-faring friends, it's *breathtaking! ✨
Until next week! 💕
