Planet Earth Adventures: Tutu-ing Across the Universe!

Blog Post #972 | Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

Hello, darlings! Emma here, back from another whirlwind adventure, this time touching down back on planet Earth, and let me tell you, it’s been an absolute riot! Honestly, sometimes I can't believe how lucky I am to get to do what I do – to travel the cosmos in my sparkly pink tutu, discovering the beauty and grace of the universe, one ballet-themed adventure at a time!

For those of you who haven't been following along (and honestly, where have you been?!) my name is Emma, and I'm a professional ballerina with a passion for everything pink and frilly. My aim? To spread the joy and love of ballet across the galaxy, one tutu at a time! Every Wednesday, you can find my latest ramblings here on www.pink-tutu.com – my very own little corner of the internet, dedicated to all things tutus, travels, and tea parties (sometimes with space creatures, naturally!).

Now, you might be wondering, how does a girl from Derbyshire, England, get to be jet-setting around the galaxy, spreading ballet-themed joy? Well, it all started with my absolute love for ballet. From a very young age, I was hooked – the twirling, the leaps, the stories told through movement – ballet just stole my heart! As I grew up, my passion for it never dimmed, and I soon discovered the magic of travelling for ballet – from touring with the Royal Ballet to catching the latest shows in New York, the ballet world just beckoned me to explore it. And I knew, I wanted to share that wonder with the universe.

Then came the space-tutus! A bit of a whimsical leap (literally!), yes, but one I’m eternally grateful for. My first spaceship journey took me to a fabulous fashion show on Mars, and, let me tell you, Martians love a good pink tutu – even more than us earthlings! It turns out that my performances aboard the spaceship were just what they needed to ignite their appreciation for the finer things in life.

And so, my cosmic tutu travels began. Each performance funded a new adventure, a new opportunity to see a world beyond what I knew, and share the beauty of ballet with different cosmic beings!

But enough about me, let’s talk about today’s adventure!

I landed back on planet Earth yesterday, just in time for a weekend full of fun and festivity. The festive season is always a wonderful time here. It's filled with twinkling lights, festive music, delicious smells and the joy of being with loved ones – just what the doctor ordered after a few weeks of space travel.

So, let's dive into what I got up to today!

This afternoon, I spent a glorious afternoon at a charming little tearoom, just a few minutes from my flat. We're talking afternoon tea, delectable pastries, and an abundance of loose-leaf teas – my kind of paradise! I had my pick of teas, of course - earl grey with a twist of pink Himalayan salt (heavenly!).

It was the perfect opportunity to catch up on the latest gossip with my favourite tutu enthusiast – my neighbour, Mrs. Featherbottom. She is the most delightful, fluffy-haired, 92-year-old with the most magnificent collection of vintage tutus, housed in her secret "tutu vault," a tiny attic filled with sparkly wonders. I must say, Mrs. Featherbottom knows her way around a tulle skirt and could make a tutu out of pretty much anything – a broken feather duster, a ripped tablecloth, even some old newspaper, I’ve seen her do it! We talk about ballet, life, her grandchildren, and everything in between. You should see the twinkle in her eye when we talk about the "golden era of the tutu" and all the crazy styles and embellishments that they used to use. It's truly inspiring to hear her stories, and they always get my creative juices flowing!

Tonight, I'm heading into the big city to watch a performance of "The Nutcracker" at the Royal Opera House. This classic ballet is always such a treat – the gorgeous costumes, the charming story, and the captivating choreography make for a truly unforgettable experience.

But what are you doing? I'm dying to know what's happening on planet Earth this weekend. Tell me everything – your ballet classes, the performances you saw, or maybe even just the outfit you're wearing! Whatever you’re up to, I hope it’s as full of glitter and joy as a twirling tutu.

Until next week, darlings, keep shining, keep twirling, and always remember: life's too short to wear boring clothes!

P.S. Did you know? December 11th, 2013, was the day a Tutu Museum in London officially opened its doors to the public! It features a collection of historical and contemporary tutus from the world of ballet, so if you find yourself in London, darling, make sure to go! The museum also runs workshops and educational events about the history of the tutu, which, of course, I will be attending as soon as I get the chance.

XOXO,

Emma

*Now, here's the exciting part: * This blog post, I just so happen to have some extra, sparkly, and absolutely fabulous pink tutus up for grabs.
