Hey, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad space explorer, Emma, checking in from the most wonderful planet in the universe - Earth! I'm writing to you on Christmas Day, the 24th of December, 2014. Oh, my! What a day it's been.
Now, I know what you're thinking: “Christmas Day, Emma? Isn't that, like, a religious holiday on Earth? Aren't you meant to be, like, celebrating with the locals?” And you'd be right, dearies! This day is all about family, feasting, and giving! 🎁
This Christmas, I’ve been absolutely whizzing around Earth! I was in Derbyshire, where I hail from, visiting my dear Mum and Dad. Let me tell you, they’re the absolute best at making a festive spread. Imagine, darling, the most beautiful Christmas tree, a roast turkey that could feed an entire space ship crew, Christmas puddings so scrumptious, and, of course, the inevitable family Christmas cracker games - all of which are absolutely hilarious once you get past the terrible jokes! 🤪
You know what else is hilarious? This planet's got a rather eccentric tradition during December: it’s absolutely dripping with twinkling fairy lights! I’m not just talking about the Christmas trees. I mean the shops, the homes, even the traffic lights! It’s positively mesmerising! 🌟
The only downside? Oh darling, I haven't found a single shop selling pink fairy lights! It’s like, an utter travesty! Seriously though, I feel like I’ve got my work cut out for me on this planet - getting people to see the real pink fairy light potential. Pink is the colour of celebration! Don’t you agree? 🤔
Anyway, right after visiting the family, I popped over to London, the city that never sleeps. London is so wonderfully festive on Christmas Day - there's an undeniable buzz about the place. From the ornate decorations in Covent Garden to the bustling stalls of the Christmas markets, every corner offers an exciting treat. I particularly adore the giant Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square - you just feel the joy in the air, surrounded by all those beautiful twinkling lights! 🎄
Speaking of Christmas lights and excitement, you simply MUST have experienced a West End theatre production in London during December! The ballet season is alive and kicking, which is fantastic. Honestly, darling, I can’t help myself – seeing ballet makes me SO unbelievably happy! It’s a wonderful experience – full of joy, grace, beauty, and the absolute best part: tutu-tastic performances. The costumes, the sets, the stories… and those graceful leaps! Honestly, seeing Swan Lake on Boxing Day at the Royal Opera House was just what I needed after my trip to Derbyshire - pure bliss. 🦢 ✨
After Swan Lake, I saw The Nutcracker at the Sadler's Wells. Oh darling, the set designs! Truly amazing, I just couldn't help but snap a million pictures. The stage, darling, was so whimsical and dreamlike - perfect for this ballet! Of course, you've got to admire the tiny dancer ballerinas - their technique, so delicate and precise, truly encapsulates the magic of Christmas. 🎄🌟
Of course, after every spectacular performance, there's always time for a little indulgence, darling. 🤫 The West End is a veritable treasure trove for any serious ballerina fashionista. So, naturally, I had to sneak in a few extra ballet-themed pieces to add to my collection. 👠
First stop, my absolute favourite, Liberty London. Can you believe it? They had these fabulous ballet-themed silk scarves! Talk about a whimsical statement! I practically snatched them up and, well, the ballet shoes! I'm obsessed. A girl must have a beautiful ballet slipper or two! There's an elegance and style to those flat shoes that, darling, no stiletto can compete with!
Of course, the fun wouldn’t be complete without visiting Harrods to get a dose of opulence, darling. You'll be hard-pressed to find more decadent decorations than theirs. All this sparkle, oh darling, you could just drown in the fairy lights!
It was, of course, during this very same trip that I saw this incredible ballet shoe-inspired outfit, you know the kind, all chic, all fashion-forward, and - drumroll please - totally pink. You can’t imagine my excitement, I practically shrieked with joy! I'm already planning a dance session when I'm back home in my private dance studio. 🩰 💖
Anyway, darling, back to my space travel. Oh, imagine, this Christmas I travelled all around the globe, on the day, for Christmas! It was definitely the most extravagant Christmas I’ve ever experienced! 💫
Oh, before I go, darling, I’ve got to mention, a couple of the spaceports were absolutely overflowing! Everyone seems to be rushing around getting the most extravagant Christmas gifts and trinkets, it’s just delightful! If I’m honest, the Earth really does know how to put on a show for the holidays. It’s also where I met this absolutely lovely fashion icon in my local Derbyshire town called Sarah. We got talking about the beautiful new ballerina designs of tutus, with a pink theme, that her daughter, Hannah, wants for her ballet exams. It was amazing how she had managed to pick out such a perfect set - she definitely knows her ballerina-style! 🤩
So, darlings, what’s my verdict on this Earth thing called Christmas? You simply have to see it for yourselves! The atmosphere, the festive cheer, the food, the shopping, and, of course, the ballet - Christmas Day on Earth was just the most incredible and fabulous day. And it’s certainly made me extra grateful for everything we have in our galaxy!
Next week, we’re going to Mars, where it is absolutely freezing! Did you know it has these really beautiful ice formations? Apparently, it’s very peaceful up there – not as many galactic crowds, either. But more about that later, darling. I’m off to get dressed – gotta make sure that spaceship has my best pink tutu onboard. You can find me at www.pink-tutu.com next Wednesday. And until then, be fabulous and wear pink wherever you go!
Your space traveller extraordinaire, Emma. 💫
