Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #1035

Hello my darling tutus! It's Wednesday again, which means another thrilling chapter in the Pink Tutu World journey! 💖

This week I'm feeling so giddy, as if I've just pirouetted straight from the pages of a ballet book, because... you guessed it... drumroll... I'm back on Planet Earth! 🌎

The air is fresh, the grass is green (and if I'm being totally honest, a bit muddy!), and the feeling of home is washing over me in a wave of warm fuzziness. I've got to say, there's just something so magical about this little blue marble we call Earth!

This time, I've chosen to land in my home county of Derbyshire. It's here I spent my formative tutu-wearing years, the very birthplace of my pink tutu obsession! As I gazed out of my spaceship window, I felt a huge swell of pride as I recognised the rolling hills and charming villages that I'd called home for so long. 🥰

Now, you're probably wondering what kind of balletic delights are on the schedule for my return. Let me tell you, my dears, this week's programme is absolutely packed!

Derbyshire Dance Delight

Firstly, a visit to the Matlock Bath Illuminations, a twinkling light display, is a must-do for any pink-loving ballerina. I mean, it's all the sparkles and shine of a grand tutus but in an even more magnificent way, reaching up to the sky, bursting with colour! ✨ You simply have to get that tutu swirling! This annual celebration started back in 1884 - a mere blip in ballet time, isn't it? I might even do a little impromptu dance by the illuminated water fountain, it’s just too tempting to resist!

Speaking of tempting, I simply had to make a stop at the Derbyshire Tea Rooms and Vintage Shops. There's nothing quite like enjoying a dainty afternoon tea in a gorgeous setting while being surrounded by all things vintage, and oh my, some stunning tutus - all of them calling my name! 🍰 It’s almost like walking into a theatrical wonderland. I do love a bit of history with my afternoon tea!

After all those delights, I'll be hitting up the Bakewell Tart Trail. A trail dedicated to the iconic bakewell tart? Sign me up! What better way to celebrate my return to the UK than indulging in this culinary masterpiece. Who knows? Maybe there will even be some bakewell tart inspired tutus on the menu? 🍒

The highlight of this week's balletic escapade is, without a doubt, my trip to the Peak District. I'll be heading to The Old Mill at Middleton – just the place to unwind with a glass of bubbly in the warm glow of the fireplace, surrounded by the magical atmosphere of this quaint English pub. Imagine those cobblestones, the flickering lanterns, the stories whispered in the rafters. So romantic!

After indulging in the best that Derbyshire has to offer, I'll be back on the road again. This time, I'll be heading for the bright lights of London, ready to take in the amazing shows and fashion that only the Big Smoke can deliver! But for now, I'll be savouring every last moment of the quaint charm of my Derbyshire home. I just love experiencing the diverse range of the Earth!

Pink Tutu Fashion Update!

Speaking of amazing and London, darling! Have I got news for you! This past week, a phenomenal new tutus boutique opened in Covent Garden, The Ballerina Bazaar, and let me tell you - this place is fabulous!

Imagine shelves overflowing with tutus - from fluffy and sparkly to delicate and dreamy - there's something for every pink tutu aficionado! 🤯 I have definitely spent a little too much time in that shop - but let’s be honest, how could anyone resist? The tutus were calling to me and, you know, I answer the call. I’ve found some amazing outfits for my upcoming ballet shows - I might be wearing a new pink tutu every single night! 🎀

If you're ever in the London area, darling, it's a must-visit. And while you're at it, keep an eye out for me! You might just find me twirling about in the heart of Covent Garden. Who knows? We might even share a pot of tea at the Pink and Lace Tea Room next door.

A Peek at My Planet Earth Calendar!

I love keeping a travel diary, so that when I’m out there among the stars, I can look back at my memories of Planet Earth!

Right now, Planet Earth's calendar says 25th February 2015. For my fellow tutu enthusiasts, this day is important, it's International Ballet Day. Oh how we love a good ballet day! And, for my dear followers from around the galaxy, there are tons of ballet performances and events taking place on Planet Earth, every single day, but there's a special something in the air for International Ballet Day - that special sparkly something that just gets all of us tutiful dancers going! I'll be hosting my own mini performance this afternoon in Derbyshire - stay tuned to my social media for sneak peeks! 💖

That brings me to the end of another pink-filled blog post, my lovelies. It’s time for me to head out on another exciting intergalactic journey, seeking out more pink tutus, more breathtaking ballet performances and new amazing stories for Pink Tutu World! I'm looking forward to seeing what adventures await in the vast expanse of the universe!

Until next Wednesday, Keep your tutus twirling!

Postscript

(Now this little gem, my dears, I had to sneak in! It's all for my lovely readers, because you're part of my intergalactic family!)

Ever since I was a little girl, I've been fascinated by the history of tutus, and ballet in general. Did you know that the tutu, in all its voluminous glory, has gone through quite a few transformations? There's la tutu roman a delicate short skirt worn in the romantic era and la tutu à plat, a longer, more flowing version favoured in the classic period! Both of those had more fabric, were very fitted around the waist and were, generally speaking, not as practical for vigorous dancing as tutus became.

However, when it comes to the tutu, for me it's la tutu à plat. Now that's what I call a tutu! I'm drawn to the elegance, the drama, the sheer volume of la tutu à plat.

Did you know? Back in the day, many dancers found la tutu à plat incredibly restrictive! They weren't exactly built for jumping and leaping, à la my way! The ladies had to fight just to get a grand jeté in without sending it flying away!

And those petticoats under la tutu à plat ? Oh, they were like corsets for your skirt! It’s hard to imagine what ballet would have looked like sans la tutu à plat.

This time when I'm back on Earth, I'll definitely visit the Victoria and Albert Museum, where there’s a tutu exhibit - I’ll take plenty of pictures for you!

I am fascinated by how much the history of the tutu has influenced my own design choices and even my personal life, because of how beautiful, and historical this garment is. We can go even further with tutus and look for inspiration. What would you wear with the beautiful patterns of tutus for the Victorian era, for the Classic ballet era, and, of course, my modern tutu era? Tell me in the comments! You know I love to hear what you have to say about this fabulous tutu world of mine.

Until next Wednesday! Emma 💖
