Planet Earth, August 12th, 2015 - Blog Post #1059

Oh my darlings, what a whirlwind week it’s been! The cosmic dust is barely settling after my trip to… well, I can’t really tell you. Let’s just say it was so fabulously sparkly and totally worth the journey!

Now, as you all know, my favourite mode of transport is by spaceship – just makes travelling to different galaxies so much easier than trying to book flights with a certain low-cost carrier I won’t name (you know the one!) So, off I zoomed, leaving my flat in Derbyshire (although frankly, who's counting flat spaces when there's galaxies to be conquered?!)

It was all for a rather exciting reason, a ballet gala on Neptune. You’d be surprised how much amazing dance culture exists beyond planet Earth – it’s a whole universe of pirouettes, chasséing, and even some fabulously modern, avant-garde Ballet du Futur. It truly blew my mind (no pun intended) seeing dancers from so many other star systems whipping up a storm on the Neotune stage in shimmering costumes that would make a London fashion week designer blush (and trust me, my darlings, they’re used to seeing some bright colours!).

Of course, a trip like this had to involve a little shopping. I mean, who can resist the opportunity to add a couple of dazzling space-age tutu pieces to the collection? Not I, darlings, not I!

You wouldn't believe the array of fabric out there! They had tutus woven from cosmic rays and fabrics that changed colour with each galaxy they passed through. One in particular was an iridescent, holographic number that caught the light of nearby black holes – simply breathtaking! I knew it would be perfect for my next galactic performance in the Andromeda Galaxy… I can't tell you just how exciting that's going to be! I’m sure I'll need several performances there before I’ve worked out exactly what to do in each, the outfits, the music… It takes time! But then, the world is my stage, right?

But of course, even with the most fascinating intergalactic journey, there’s no place like home (which just so happens to be this big, blue, beautiful marble we call Earth! ) And as I’ve always said: no journey is truly complete without a Ballet Show or two to properly celebrate the journey! This week's show is "La Danse des Etoiles", a brand new show premiering at the Royal Ballet in London on Wednesday – the perfect place to showcase the exquisite outfits I’ve brought back. The show is a spectacle of cosmic dance featuring dancers in elaborate costumes. The costumes are all so wonderful, I even have the inspiration for my next set of space age tutus - the outfits have a twinkling, iridescent quality and they all just sparkle under the stage lights with the energy of the dance. It's stunning! This evening's performance promises to bring a bit of stardust to the heart of the City! It's the kind of spectacle you have to see for yourselves!

Now, darling, you'll want to know what's on your ballet schedule this week! I think a ballet history night is definitely in order to catch up on the fabulous developments happening here and around the world (and I’m not just talking about what’s happening outside planet Earth. No, I mean across the globe) – we have so much to see here in our own little corner of the galaxy. I've seen several shows lately which show the growth in the number of professional ballerinas everywhere I travel - and even in the small town where I live in Derbyshire! I do love my trips across the galaxy, but sometimes, a really amazing show closer to home, especially by someone local, really puts the stardust in the everyday.

If you are in the United Kingdom, and are fancying a trip out this week to see a great ballet performance, then a couple of my faves in the UK right now, just for you are The Birmingham Royal Ballet. If you can’t make the shows, then do check them out online – I find it so inspirational! And you know I love a little ballet history now and again – how exciting to find something that makes the world a little more special and puts the tutu in every galaxy!

Finally, my darlings, don’t forget, the key to making your dreams come true is a little sprinkle of magic, a lot of imagination, and a truly fabulous pink tutu (the sparklier the better, darling). Now off I pop – the spaceship is warming up and I’ve got some galaxies to conquer!

Until next week… and don't forget to Dance on, Darlings, Dance on!!

Emma xXx
