Planet Earth Adventures: Ballet On My Birthday - Post 1135!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back again from Planet Earth with another thrilling intergalactic adventure!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new blog post and oh, how exciting is this one going to be? Buckle up your sparkly shoes, because today we're talking about ballet on my birthday, on Planet Earth, 25th January, 2017!

Can you believe it? My birthday was yesterday! Well, it still feels like yesterday since I'm typing this on my favourite fluffy pink cloud as we float through the cosmos, but you get the picture! I decided to celebrate the big day (age is just a number, but pink is my colour, lol!) with something a little bit special - a visit to the fabulous Royal Opera House in London!

Now, I'm a big fan of all things ballet. The elegant movements, the beautiful music, the fabulous costumes... It's all just so dreamy! But seeing ballet in the iconic Royal Opera House? That's a whole other level of fabulousness.

The Royal Opera House has been a hub of theatrical and operatic performances for centuries. In the 18th century, it was actually a posh playhouse with opera and dancing as entertainment between the acts - how swish! That's where it gets even more special for me, darling. I've always been mad about ballet history, you see, especially tutu history! The first tutus were incredibly simple compared to the extravagant, colourful, magical tutus of today. Back in the 1800s, the very first ballerina, Marie Taglioni, wore just a white, ankle-length, almost ankle-length, muslin skirt - now that's simple, classic and so elegant! Imagine - just think how a simple skirt changed the course of dance history - truly amazing! And you can even see these fascinating displays in the Royal Opera House museums!

So, before the performance, I got a little tour and learned more about these elegant creations. They told me about how tutus became more intricate and voluminous - it all started as a way for ballerinas to move freely and effortlessly, and now look - we have these huge, feathery masterpieces that I just adore! Honestly, sometimes I'd like to live in a giant pink tutu! I bet it would be amazingly cosy! I even bought myself a souvenir programme - it's the perfect pink to match my outfit. I must confess, I couldn't help but make a stop at the gift shop. It's an absolute wonderland for a ballerina like myself! It's bursting with the most beautiful pink tutus - just look at this! But the main event was, of course, the ballet performance. This time, we had the exquisite "Swan Lake." You know I love me a good classic! This ballet just had everything - beautiful sets, graceful dancing, and the most romantic story! There were graceful ballerinas gliding across the stage, and charming princes twirling with passion - just a truly inspiring night! It was a perfect way to celebrate a birthday - you have to see a classic performance at least once in your lifetime, darling!

Speaking of charming princes... well, it turns out my birthday gift is actually a little more… interstellar! Can you believe it? I was whisked away by the lovely Captain Felix - a total gentleman, by the way, always offering to get me more bubbly - to his spaceship, which I've decided to name 'Pink Tutu' (it is, after all, pink!), and we are heading back to my dear Derbyshire for a couple of days of pure relaxation. But we'll be back for more galactic adventures soon enough - next stop is Mars, then maybe a quick visit to Alpha Centauri! (Although that could be a little more 'whizzy' - the distance! The time! I shall keep you updated).

Don't forget to check back in next week, my darlings! I have a special new collection of pink tutus I've been dreaming of and it just so happens it arrives this week and we are having a special delivery fashion show, right here in our spaceship! (Captain Felix loves this new outfit too. Well, how could you not love an iridescent pink and white combo? Pink is my go-to!). It will be one of the most fabulous events of the season. Stay tuned and be prepared for a spectacle you won't want to miss!

Until then, stay pink and dance like no one's watching - even when you are, like when your spaceship is docking on Planet Earth (I mean, we always get the warmest reception when we land at London Stansted, we just look SO chic, with those perfect lines and those curves - all the earthlings seem to smile at us - oh the irony!)... See you all next Wednesday, same time, same place - www.pink-tutu.com!

XOXO,

Emma

(Please note: I’ve included a picture in this blog post of a very pretty ballerina with a perfect pink tutu for your reference. I’m also planning on using these photographs for my fashion blog in the future!).

Fashion Corner

Here’s a little insight into my favorite items for the week!

  1. Pink Glitter Tiara

Well, this was a birthday present and I was over the moon. My hairdresser was in tears of joy - a rare sight indeed! She loves pink tutus too! I absolutely loved it and it's made for taking pictures in front of all the pinkest pinkiest, places you can think of! I even wore it for my trip to the Royal Opera House!

  1. New sparkly silver flats

Okay, let’s be honest, a ballet shoe needs to match an outfit. These have real flair, in fact, I bought 12 pairs for all of my pink tutu collection.

  1. My very first little white ballerina-inspired satchel

Every outfit needs the perfect bag! It’s got a delicate pink ribbon and a little mirror so I can make sure my pink outfit is perfect for our dance extravaganza! The pink glitter tiara comes in very handy here, for it adds the sparkle. We are rocking the ballet vibe!

Dance News and Reviews London Royal Ballet – ‘Swan Lake’

Wow, it's hard to put into words the elegance and beauty of 'Swan Lake', and I have to say it was particularly impressive watching these ballet dancers move, and glide. I was captivated by the grace of the ballerinas and the strength of the male dancers. The music and choreography just had this incredible rhythm to it that I loved - this is what a traditional dance should be like. I'll have to admit it left me wanting to jump on stage, even though I'm really, really bad, really. But that is just what this performance inspired me to do. The costumes were stunning and it's worth it just for the choreography and the sheer power that emanates from a performance like this. It’s really like watching a timeless ballet.

This production just radiates so much skill and talent! It also helps you understand a little about the beauty of dance itself - I love the way that the movements in 'Swan Lake’ communicate feelings that can’t even be said with words! That’s what makes dance truly beautiful. It’s like a conversation between bodies and emotions.

But oh my goodness, my favourite part was the set design! Especially for the black swan. I’d love to visit backstage after the performance to see it all up close - just to see the beauty of this magnificent stage and everything that’s gone into creating this piece of artistry.

Here's a fun little tip, darlings! Don’t just take it from me! Head over to the Royal Opera House’s website for some backstage photos! There are loads of amazing behind-the-scenes images. And for more, there’s an online ballet guide - an app, with reviews and the latest ballet news. The world of ballet, from my phone to yours - how amazing is that!
