Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post Number 1146 🩰✨

Wednesday, 12th April, 2017

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-wearing, galaxy-hopping, fashion-forward ballerina, Emma, back with another blog post from planet Earth. Today's post is extra special, because it's about my trip to the Royal Opera House in London to see Swan Lake, one of the most iconic ballet masterpieces in the world!

First, let me tell you about my outfit! Obviously, a pink tutu was a must. This time, I went for a sparkly, vintage-style one with layers of tulle and delicate pearl detailing. It perfectly matched my fluffy, pink, feathered bolero - just a tiny bit of glamour to match the majesty of the theatre. As you all know, I believe pink is the perfect colour for ballerinas, because it is a colour of joy, dreams, and magic, just like ballet! I don't care what the critics say about wearing pink – pink is beautiful, full stop! Let the pinkness flow, my dearies!

Anyway, back to Swan Lake! This iconic ballet tells the story of Odette, a beautiful princess who is cursed by the evil Von Rothbart to spend her days as a swan. She can only regain her human form at night, and only a man who loves her unconditionally can break the spell.

I was so completely swept away by the sheer brilliance of the performance. The dancers were simply stunning! They soared and glided across the stage with such grace and elegance, it felt like they were weightless. I was particularly impressed by the soloists. The principal dancer portraying Odette had such delicate beauty, and the power she showed as the Black Swan was both mesmerizing and a little scary, darling! It really was an amazing spectacle, a true ballet masterclass. And the music - oh my goodness! Tchaikovsky's music is so beautiful, it just takes you on a whirlwind journey of emotion.

After the show, my friends and I headed to the Covent Garden Market for a spot of retail therapy, of course. The whole area buzzes with artistic energy, just like a ballerina after a successful performance! It felt perfect to continue my evening in such a lively environment, even though, truth be told, I probably would have spent hours in the souvenir shop of the opera house buying ballet memorabilia! The Royal Opera House gift shop is legendary! They've got everything you could possibly need to embrace your inner ballerina!

You know, it’s so fascinating to think that Swan Lake was first performed in Moscow all the way back in 1877, I think. Ballet has a truly rich history that is fascinating, like an elaborate tutu itself. It is the perfect dance style to be captured in the delicate and romantic artistry of a tutu. There's something absolutely captivating about the beauty and grace of the classic ballets that we find in theatres like the Royal Opera House. And just think, they were using tutus even back then, darlings! You could say, ballet has a pretty good history, in terms of dance history, and also in terms of fashion history, too! And a pretty good fashion history means great fashion and costumes, so even when watching historical shows you can still take fashion inspiration.

But even as I indulge in these traditional, beautifully constructed ballets, my pink tutu spirit continues to strive! I know that pink tutus have their place on all the great stages of the world. Perhaps one day, my little pink tutu dream will even come true - a whole planet full of ballerinas all twirling around in pink tutus, looking amazing and feeling their most beautiful selves! Maybe even all of planet Earth will turn pink one day, as they get ready for the biggest ballet class ever seen, with every one of us dressed in the finest tutus the universe has to offer! Think about it.

And speaking of universal fashion, last week, my space travel journey took me to Venus. My new friends, a very cool group of astronauts from planet Alpha Centauri, have an incredible sense of style. They even have their own little “fashionistas” and one even taught me a super fun space-age ballet move, something I call the “Stardust Spin”. It’s like a pirouette but with a little extra pizazz! I swear it would give a girl a good laugh! I just know they are going to look sensational in a pink tutu – we can’t forget the fashion sense of our universe is constantly changing.

Until next week, darlings! Keep your toes pointed, your smiles bright and always remember: Life is better with a pink tutu!

💖 Love, Emma 💖
