Hello my darlings! It’s Wednesday again, which means it's time for another dazzling Pink Tutu World post! I’m just back from a truly magical intergalactic escapade, and let me tell you, my friends, this was one for the books. Oh, darling, prepare yourselves, because today’s story is overflowing with pink-hued fabulousness, a sprinkling of celestial stardust, and more twirling than you can possibly imagine!
Now, as a proper Derbyshire girl, I wouldn't dream of jetting off to a new planet without checking the calendar for the big day: it was, of course, 19th September, a Wednesday, and what a Wednesday it was, I can tell you! It's been ages since I’ve been back on Planet Earth for a Wednesday, my loves. You wouldn't believe what I have to show you!
Ballet Heaven in the Galaxy!
I arrived back on dear old Earth via the ever-so-fabulous, shiny silver spaceship. A very friendly captain greeted me at the airlock in a shimmering emerald dress, and he assured me my bag of shimmering pink and silver tutus made it to baggage claim safe and sound! I always worry, as those delicate tutus are my most precious cargo, and wouldn't it be a tragedy for them to be damaged! Thankfully they were pristine! I am rather attached to my collection.
Once I disembarked from the ship and stepped onto terra firma, I decided to treat myself to some scrumptious English scones and clotted cream at a lovely little cafe - my mother insists the best in the whole universe are from Bakewell, not far from home in Derbyshire, so it's my mission to sample as many of them as possible. I devoured a double order while contemplating my next move - the possibilities were practically endless.
After some more intense planning, and another double scone to give me more energy, I decided on a classic: a Ballet Extravaganza! My dear followers, you know my passion, my absolute, undeniable adoration, for ballet! So it felt perfectly logical, really, that I would make my first foray back onto the planet a whirlwind tour of all things ballet. Oh, and did I mention that I had a show to attend later that night! This Wednesday truly did hold some delightful surprises, my lovelies.
A Tutu-ful Treat for the Soul:
First, I headed to Covent Garden. You’ll probably agree it’s the ultimate destination for any ballerina who just loves an elaborate performance and a fab, extravagant theatre, as am I! And believe me, darling, I wasn’t disappointed! They were all abuzz about a Royal Ballet Gala. Of course I couldn't miss out!
Imagine a stunning setting bathed in velvety, royal purple velvet and gold-painted, hand-carved ceiling details, complete with elegant chandeliers. You would just melt with delight. A splendid orchestra in an elaborate black and gold velvet dress rehearsal ensemble played the most divine melodies. Then, it was time for the dancers. One after the other they came out, dancing beautifully, and every one more fabulous and stylish than the last! Each had a breathtaking pink tutu in a different design.
I have to say, the most divine outfit was one ballerina's. Her ballerina was wearing a delicate ballet costume. A black, shimmering velvet bodice, with a delicate tulle skirt, embroidered with sparkling little gold sequins that were shaped like stars. And my darling, the most extraordinary detail? There was an absolutely heavenly little star crown upon her head! Oh, darling, it truly took my breath away. If only I had such a show-stopping tutu in my collection, and oh, darling, to imagine if I were performing there, with a dazzling, bejewelled and glamorous ballerina outfit on! It truly made my evening.
After that gorgeous performance, I had an even greater appetite than usual! Now, if you know me, you know that this would not do. We wouldn't want me passing out from hunger in the midst of all that dazzling brilliance. So of course, I wandered off to the gorgeous Covent Garden Market to fill my stomach with the most luscious street food. I absolutely cannot resist the Italian pasta stand in the market, or those absolutely heavenly, freshly-baked pastries.
It was almost midnight by the time I headed to The Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Oh, the building is so grand. All sparkling with lights and I can hardly describe the ornate design. Even in the black velvet interior I could tell just by glancing around the walls that they don’t mess about at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane - only the most exquisite theatrical splendour, nothing less.
Dancing the Night Away:
So as you know my loves, the only thing better than attending a ballet performance is dancing on stage in one. After such a busy day, there was absolutely no chance that I could simply watch, so I thought: why not perform a solo act myself? That’s me! It's practically my mission to promote the dance, and my love of all things pink tutu to everyone I can. And I am, if I may say so myself, incredibly adept at twirling a mean pirouette in the spotlight, so why shouldn't I dance?
For the Ballet in the Dark show at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane (that’s how it was labelled on the noticeboard at least. Oh my dear! What an utterly divine title. So intriguing! Even without knowing the show, one immediately gets a clear image in their mind - an intriguing story of mystery and dance!), I performed the piece called, The Butterfly's Ballet to rapturous applause and gasps of surprise from the delighted audience! And the best part I asked permission to use my own stage wear and the manager's jaw almost hit the floor when I arrived in this absolutely dazzling pink-hued, sparkly tutu outfit - he said the Theatre Royal Drury Lane audience simply had to see me on stage!
I am a true performer, darlings, and with the stage lighting so low, and my tutu shimmering beautifully under the spotlights, well, I danced as if the whole world was looking on, I twirled, I pirouetted, I leaped, I danced in my tutu and all in one night I knew that it wasn’t just about sharing the art of the ballet but showing those people on Planet Earth what it was really like to dance a magnificent ballet as the audience gasped, oohed and aahhed and cheered and applauded and, as the curtain fell at the end of the dance, you could actually hear them buzzing! They all agreed with me - there was nothing quite like a ballerina performing under the magic of theatre stage lights.
Now you’d think I'd have retired to my comfortable spaceship to sleep after a full day like that! However, I couldn't bear to leave without doing at least one more dance class! Luckily, the Royal Ballet School was holding an event to showcase some young up-and-comers. Well, as my mission (or obsession as some would have it) is to teach every dancer and choreographer on every planet in the galaxy about pink tutus, I naturally decided to go! The first person I met was Ms. Anya who teaches in her amazing pink ballet class and I asked for a quick lesson. Well, I might not have managed to teach them to love pink tutus but you never know. It did have me pondering just what exactly to wear, how to be stylish on and off the dance floor, and maybe that will help them make the big leap. Maybe it’s about having a sense of fashion and wearing your heart on your sleeve - or shall we say, on your tulle, for every ballerina with any style needs a great tutu and an equally gorgeous top and slippers!
A bit later, after making a hasty exit, and taking a fast train across to Manchester (I told the cabbie my pink tutus were for a dance competition - and it just wouldn’t do to let a little bit of detail get in the way!), and after what must have been the fastest journey, with more coffee and pastry stops for my tired dancing legs. As I was dancing away I realised the importance of good music and good dance studios, and who could be a better guide on dance studios than the wonderful team at Dancers, Dancers, Dance.
Oh, you would simply have loved the beautiful dancers, their lovely bright pink costumes, and oh, those dazzling little shoes! Oh, how I would love to be a dancing student there! The music - everything was fabulous, every class a chance to move my dancing legs, perfect my pirouettes and practice my grand jete. If I didn’t have my intergalactic travel plans, you know what my dears? I’d have stayed forever and never, never ever, let go of a moment on this heavenly dance floor, or a moment spent in such a stylish environment, and all in one of those glorious tutus with beautiful bright pink satin ribbons attached.
What’s next for me? Well, dear readers, there are some plans to meet the most fabulously famous ballerina in the whole wide universe, a trip across the galaxy with my fabulous dance students, the newest of my fabulous fashion creations, the design for an extravagant intergalactic pink and purple spaceship (you just have to imagine those two colors! They would simply dazzle all the aliens!) , a guest appearance at a dance competition - where, as you might guess, all the outfits will have a distinctly pink-hued hue, darling!
And now, for a little treat! If you need some inspiration (what? It happens!) for a pink and tutu extravaganza here's a link to a truly extraordinary website! Have fun and stay tuned for next week’s post on my darling website. www.pink-tutu.com .
