Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu wearing, intergalactic ballerina, Emma, back with another stellar update from Planet Earth! 💫 This week, I'm channeling all my celestial energy into this little corner of the internet to share with you all my fabulous adventures.
I’m writing to you live from a quaint little coffee shop in Derby, England - the place I call home! After spending the past couple of weeks twirling across the Milky Way, it’s so lovely to be back on my favourite planet - for now at least. 😉
Remember how I told you about my new love for Earthly ballet? Well, this week has been jam-packed with more heavenly performances.
October 10th was a day full of ballet brilliance! The world's leading dance companies are having their autumn seasons, and I’ve been absolutely glued to my galactic device. Honestly, you’ll never believe what I’ve witnessed this week – tutus, tiaras and tons of talented dancers.
From the Royal Opera House to the Bolshoi, this week was simply divine:
- The Royal Opera House, London had a new staging of Giselle. This timeless masterpiece had me crying in a good way, I'll tell you! Seeing all those fabulous costumes with their exquisite details - the flowing chiffon, the glittering sequins, and of course, the perfect tulle! Simply breathtaking.
- The Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow had a stunning production of Swan Lake. They are famous for their traditionalism, which means no radical redesigns or wacky modern interpretations. Their costumes were just right - all fluffy white tutus and shimmering bodices - truly breathtaking.
- New York City Ballet, the company with more modern leanings, premiered a brand new ballet. It’s a work by Justin Peck set to music by Sufjan Stevens and it's quite avant-garde, with a super interesting set design. Let’s just say there weren’t a single pink tutu in sight. However, the dance moves were so expressive, so innovative, so… captivating! I loved seeing such raw talent on stage.
Oh, I almost forgot - did I tell you about the incredible tutu exhibition that’s been on at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London? There were historical tutus, elaborate creations, modern designs… It's amazing how tutus have evolved over the years, becoming so much more than just fluffy garments. The way designers can use different materials and techniques to express a story through fabric is absolutely fascinating!
The history of the tutu - it’s an absolute rabbit hole, darling! I love to do a deep dive every now and then, discovering the earliest ballerinas and their little dance frocks. My little tutu heart melts every time I read about a story behind one of these magnificent pieces of performance history. Did you know… the tutu has its roots back in the 1800s! Isn’t that extraordinary? You’ve got to admit – they’re quite the piece of history, don't you think?
I was, of course, all about the fashion this week. As I mentioned, my little spaceship was jet-setting me from one ballet gala to the next! It’s amazing how different cultures celebrate dance. I really enjoyed the Russian gala at the Moscow Ballet, with everyone in sparkling jewellery and luxurious dresses. I especially loved this gorgeous silver sequin jumpsuit - such a show-stopper. I’m definitely adding one of those to my wardrobe! 😉
I’m really making a point of checking out all the newest and hottest couture, not just for myself, of course - although there are a few very special pieces that are definitely tempting me - but for my upcoming show at The National Space Opera! It’s time for the planet's greatest ballerina to make a comeback. 😉 This will be a show to remember - an entirely new performance inspired by my recent galactic explorations. I can't wait to show the universe how Pink Tutu World is pushing the boundaries of dance!
Of course, it's all in the name of spreading the Pink Tutu Revolution. Don't worry, darling, it’s totally happening. My ultimate mission in life is to get the entire universe to put on a pink tutu – even if they just wear it to make a coffee run. What could be more magnificent than a universal tutu twirl?
You can follow all of my amazing adventures on www.pink-tutu.com, and be sure to check back here next Wednesday for another week's worth of pink tutu goodness! Until then, happy twirling and always remember: the power of a pink tutu is endless! 💖🚀✨
