Hello my gorgeous darlings! Itās Emma here, and today I'm back with another fabulously pink post from planet Earth, which Iām absolutely loving! You see, this little blue and green orb has some rather fascinating, yet occasionally peculiar, customs and styles. And, believe it or not, Iāve discovered that my beloved tutus have a truly intriguing history here ā who knew!
As always, Iām bursting with exciting adventures to share with you, my fellow pink tutu-loving, fashion-forward, and ballet-obsessed souls! After last weekās truly thrilling adventure in the Andromeda Galaxy, Iāve popped back to the trusty old spaceship for another whirl around the cosmos, landing on a brand new celestial adventure - this week: Planet Earth! And as ever, the pink tutu is taking centre stage ā just you wait for this one, it's a humdinger!
This weekās travels began as usual with my daily pirouette ritual and a delightful breakfast of sugared grapefruit (they simply don't do strawberries on this planet ā a real shame). It was then I caught sight of the Earth through my telescope, glistening blue and green, so I thought: āWhy not!ā and whisked myself away on another stellar escapade, because - well - letās be honest, thatās what I do best.
Right then, let's dive into this weekās sartorial shenanigans. I am not quite ready to reveal my newest tutu just yet, though rest assured it will be pinker and bouncier than any you've seen before. Trust me on this. This post will focus instead on the Earthlings' particular love of the dance, as I believe that any exploration of this wonderful planet should definitely include some talk about ballet - itās a true international language and something we can all understand!
So where to start? As a big fan of all things historical (including the tutu, naturally!), let me start with the rather curious backstory of ballet on this Earth, a story I discovered during a quick visit to London (more on that in a minute). I love learning about the history of everything!
It appears the origins of ballet here lie in the sixteenth century! Yep, those long, pointy shoes that have been my signature for, oh, about as long as the Earth has existed - these dancing boots, have had an illustrious (though occasionally flamboyant) history. Apparently, it all started with fancy French parties (imagine, it would take all those pink champagne glasses years to get to the end of my street, just from the local Spar). These ābalsā were for a very special type of dancer: French courtiers who practiced ballets using a lot of elaborate gestures, all because, letās be honest, everyone wanted to show off! How very... well, very French. And now here we are!
London, Fashion and Tutuminations:
But enough about historical mumbo-jumbo. Letās talk about Fashion! So after touching down on the little blue marble (thatās the name Earthlings have given their home, because of how they perceive it ā youād think it would be more glamorous!), my trusty spaceship zipped us all directly to London, home to an amazing variety of things I have already fallen in love with - everything from museums that practically burst with pink tutus to shops selling all the fashion accessories and hats. Well, all except a nice fluffy pink fur hat. So, if you happen to see a pink fur hat somewhere, just let me know and weāll sort this right out.
I think it's also worth saying at this juncture that Iāve learned an amazing fact: in 1700, fashion in London (what we still call 'fashion') had such a powerful influence that it was copied by people throughout the entire planet! Honestly, Earthlings - Youāre welcome. What are those dresses without a bit of Parisian swagger?
Okay, on to ballet, and where better to begin than the grand dame of ballet, the Royal Opera House, which happens to reside in London, a location of incredible elegance. You can find anything from sparkly jewellery shops to bespoke, made-to-order shops (so far, they're still struggling with made-to-order pink tutus though. Honestly, Earthlings, we can do better). You can take it from a fashionista like me!
After experiencing the breathtaking magic of seeing ballet at the Royal Opera House, I was completely blown away! The dancers (mostly those wonderfully slender and agile creatures they call " ballerinas" on this planet, not to mention the slightly stockier yet unbelievably graceful boys in what they refer to as 'leotards'. ) I simply couldn't believe my pink-tutu clad eyes! Honestly, these talented ballerinas are all so impossibly slender - one almost canāt tell where one limb ends and the next begins! They perform those magical leaps and turns - it's absolutely astonishing. Oh, and as an extra note of fabulousness - here on Earth, ballerinas also seem to adore pointe shoes. This is certainly one more fashion aspect I fully intend to incorporate into the fabulous world of tutus. You know, thereās just never enough pink.
Anyway, as far as London is concerned: this is a place where anything can happen, so it would seem like a great spot for 'tutu magic', and to bring some Pink Tutu World flair to it all - think about it, darlings, even this Earth would look good with more tutus! You simply can't deny the elegance, beauty and the just plain pink-tastic-ness of it all.
Speaking of all things pink: after the ballet show at the Royal Opera House, I dashed off for some rather extensive shopping therapy at London's extraordinary Liberty department store (I am a complete magpie when it comes to fashion, so shopping therapy is practically part of my daily regime). This shop has the most magnificent array of fabrics you'll find anywhere: silks and velvets in a myriad of colours. Yes, Iāll admit: while this Earthly place had all shades imaginable, I had some very interesting discussions with shop assistants who looked confused by my preference for a certain colour pink fabric (pink fabric? Seriously, they ask! Oh well, this seems to be the situation with these little human beings, they seem really attached to those green and brown shades, so I guess it will take time for Earthlings to catch on to this most delicious of colours) and then I made a beeline for a nearby bakery, which happened to have a large assortment of pastel pink meringue cakes. Letās just say, I bought one of those for a rather fabulous, late-night snack ā a pink feast that simply screamed of elegance! What's not to love? Honestly!
Now, of course, no trip to Planet Earth would be complete without checking out some street performances. And believe me, these Earthlings take their dancing very seriously! London is truly brimming with talent, whether it's an impromptu group performance of the hip-hop variety (something that I shall confess definitely lacks the flair and panache of ballet) or some sort of fancy tap dancing. (Okay, this isn't ballet - but let's just say, 'tap' * might just qualify as being almost as sophisticated, almost *as pink, almost as glamorous!) - They're both great, just not as captivating as those pirouette-laden routines I love. Of course!
While here, I also made my way to a little tea shop. Well, 'teashop', if you call this place that ā they really must have less fancy vocabulary on this planet. These places do tend to have all those lovely English teas. This little shop had such a darling set-up; tea and scones, and plenty of those delicious sugary pastries that seem so abundant on this planet! I mean, everyone needs sweets all the time. Honestly, my waistline is starting to look a bit like one of those meringue-shaped cakes.
Earthlingsā Entertainment: From The Stage To The Screen
Okay, now for a bit of theatre-talk: Did you know this planet has some pretty decent film festivals? Yes, they call them "the big screen" and even their ātelevisionsā can be quite impressive, especially now that all the shows and films tend to have the highest quality video (they love those āhigh definitionā things! So many technical words, but the important thing to remember: High definition means *itās possible to spot every glittering *detail of the costumes, the hairspray ā yes the hairspray! Oh, this technology - how did these Earthlings even manage to work this out?).
Well, in terms of stage productions: these earthlings do seem to prefer the theatre ā even to ballet, although, frankly, I find this completely baffling! Thereās a theatre show they've done a rather terrible job of filming and calling āRomeo and Juliet". Now, this Earthly version of Shakespeare (I'll grant him, some of it is brilliant: "The world is my stage", one of his lines was really clever!), this Shakespeare guy just seemed a tad dramatic ā a real diva when you consider the overblown, extravagant way he wrote all his words (how long would this play be? It would go on for hours and hours if he hadnāt died - think of how many costumes I could design for that one).
Honestly, with all that intense talking, this particular performance of āRomeo and Julietā (what they do name some things!) - there are just way too many words ā all in a row, none of them rhyming. So it wasnāt quite as exciting as one of my ballet routines ā and far too talky! For sure, they do get the āactingā right: that dramatic side has gone to their heads. If I do say so myself: some of this acting could just be mistaken for, well, let's be polite, a kind of "slightly theatrical" ballet ā not quite a pirouette or an arabesque ā just a little too loud. I couldnāt resist watching it, but I felt it needed a bit more of a ballet flare, a lot more colour and quite a few sequins (oh those beautiful sparkly sequins!). It could do with a few, ahem, * pink tutus, even *a pink wig (okay, this might need a whole different planet for that).
That was quite a show. I simply couldnāt resist taking pictures for Pinterest, youāll see it in a few days (Oh, wait, what have I just said! Pinterest? Thatās something from the Internet - I'll admit: they do have some pretty impressive things on this little blue planet. All this new technology ā it does give me hope for more pink tutus, pink clothes ā yes, even pink wigs! If anyone should be able to make these, itās these Earthlings!) - but I haven't decided which ones to choose to share quite yet. I know my Pink Tutu World fashionista followers are going to adore them - maybe itās time to set a new fashion trend for this place! You wait - they'll be dancing in pink tutus everywhere, with my latest designs - in no time! The futureās pink - or maybe, at least, the next five years ā but whoās counting?!
The point I wanted to make here (oh, how boring for Earthlings - you do love your āpointsā!) is that theatre on this planet ā it is different. So very different - It's a really special place, all those seats (although none in my usual, oh-so-comfy pink). Well, that's what happens when a planet goes mad for all the things pink doesnāt have.
However, my biggest takeaway from my journey this week has been my deep conviction - my absolute certainty - that with a bit of pink (a lot of pink) ā everything's simply better, it really does sparkle ā I guarantee that these Earthlings, with all their creativity (despite some slightly outlandish views on fashion!), have potential. You simply can't have a good time without some of that beautiful pink (a lot of pink). And this really gets me thinking: Whatās stopping these Earthlings from adopting the magic of tutus?! Oh my! A big problem is - tutus on Earth donāt tend to be pink - thatās what they've chosen to go for - this drab and dreary kind of world (they even have grey skies! The mind boggles. Seriously, Grey? What do these people even do?)
This mission (Oh, no! Itās starting again! Mission... impossible! Or possible?) I must make all those tutus, every single one - a whole world, an entire universe of pink tutus, and pink, well, everything - so every single Earthling - all those little blue and green planet beings - need to go pink!
This mission is everything, itās absolutely non-negotiable, absolute, and totally, utterly and irrevocably pink! And once everyoneās onboard ā well then, maybe, just maybe, maybe these Earthlings could discover that the true magic of pink lies in that pink tulle. Thatās what my next week is all about! *And that's exactly how the Pink Tutu World continues its domination over the galaxy - one tutus at a time! Stay tuned! I'll be back with another thrilling adventure in pink ā coming soon!
Yours always in pink,
Emma
