Hello, my darlings!
It’s Wednesday again, and that means it’s time for a new post on my beloved Pink Tutu World blog! This week, I'm writing from the most amazing planet in the whole wide universe... Planet Earth! It's such a special place, and it’s always brimming with excitement. You can just feel the energy vibrating with all the human life, the history, and, of course, the ballets!
Let's be honest, dear readers, I have the best job in the galaxy: being a fashion-forward ballerina blogger with a passion for all things pink and sparkly, who just happens to also travel around the universe! Now, some might say I'm a little too enthusiastic about tutus... but they’d be wrong, because a little sparkle and tulle never hurt anyone!
This week, I found myself in Derbyshire, England, where the lush green rolling hills met my spaceship in a beautiful greeting. Derbyshire is actually where I'm from, which means a whole bunch of extra delicious tea and crumpets await! Of course, my mission (should I choose to accept it!) is to bring a little more pink tutu joy into the world, one sparkly step at a time!
Ballet History Bites: Derbyshire’s Danse LegacySpeaking of ballets, let’s chat a bit about the history of this incredible art form right here on Planet Earth! I was lucky enough to attend a stunning performance last night at the Curve Theatre in Leicester. It was "Swan Lake" – a true classic! You know I love those ethereal tutus and those swan wings. Talk about graceful!
You know, I just love digging into the history of ballet - it's like peeling back layers of a beautiful costume! Did you know the early form of ballet is thought to have originated in Italy? Cue the violins! It evolved during the Italian Renaissance period, and let me tell you, Renaissance times were so stylish. Those early ballets were full of elegance and drama – not dissimilar to some of my latest galactic tours!
Of course, the real boom of ballet happened in France in the 16th and 17th centuries. That's where the ballet we know and love truly took off! Just think about the royal courts and the grand balls… it's enough to make you feel like you're starring in your very own fairy tale, isn't it?
But let’s take it back a little. Believe it or not, the first ever use of the word 'ballet' was right here on Planet Earth in 1581. Now, that’s a fascinating little fact I just had to share!
And since we're on the topic of planet Earth and ballets, you’d better believe Derbyshire has its own place in dance history! Here in Derbyshire, you've got Matlock, home to the beautiful Derbyshire Dance Festival, and Buxton Opera House – just a short hop and a skip from the legendary Royal Ballet School in London. Honestly, there are more beautiful places on Earth than you could possibly imagine!
A Pink Tutu For EveryoneI believe the beauty of ballet should be available for everyone, regardless of what planet you hail from, what dance experience you have or whether or not you fancy wearing a sparkly pink tutu! Let's face it, we're all connected, and that connection, I truly believe, comes through art. Ballet just has a special kind of magic!
That's why I encourage every beautiful being across the galaxy, yes, you, even you in your comfy PJs (though, I'm sure you’d look sensational in a tutu), to give ballet a chance. Try a local class, catch a performance at the theatre, or even just spend some time watching beautiful ballet videos online. Ballet has been around for ages and has continued to be adored and inspired so many throughout history – there's a reason for it. It’s good for the soul!
For those of you who have already discovered the magic of ballet, why not take the time to look a bit further and explore the history behind your favourite dances? Every pirouette, every grand jeté, every graceful arabesque is part of a story, waiting to be uncovered.
I think a little ballet knowledge makes you all the more spectacular, don’t you? It's the same with fashion. I mean, where do you think the ballerina bun originated? Well, of course, right here on this planet Earth, and it was the gorgeous dancers in the 19th century who created it! You’ve got to have some hairspray to go with that ballet outfit. And you can’t leave without a nice tiara. I like the extra sparkles. What I'm saying is, if you're really into tutus and have a bit of history up your sleeve, you’re basically the ultimate dancer, in my opinion.
Speaking of fashion… I couldn’t talk about my intergalactic travels without mentioning what I’ve been sporting in the fabulous galaxy-shopping sprees! For this trip, I’ve brought my signature collection: a glorious pink tutu – oh, the fluffiness, you guys – with silver sequin accents. The sparkle! And to top it off, a light-pink chiffon top and silver shoes with a tiny matching tiara, of course! It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu World blog if I didn't at least share a hint of the outfit.
Oh, and have I told you? The new galaxy trend this year is celestial silver sequins, perfect for creating a shimmery supernova! This trend works fantastically with my signature hot pink tutus. We’re talking outer space chic!
But let’s return to the world of ballet, where our little celestial dancers twirl, jump, and inspire!
The Majesty of The StageNow, if you are fortunate enough to find yourself on this extraordinary planet, make sure you grab a chance to watch a ballet show in one of its exquisite theaters. Theatres have been here for a very long time! Planet Earth’s theatre is magical, with a history dating all the way back to the Greeks! But here on Earth, I want to point you in the direction of one of my all-time favourites: the majestic Royal Opera House in London. I know you won’t regret it. It's like stepping into a different time and a different world! I don't think they have spaceships flying past it, though – what a scene it would make!
And when you’re sitting in that velvet seat, just imagining the energy from all those amazing ballet shows, just let your inner-dancer soar! And while you’re at it, let your inner fashionista take a look at the gorgeous costumes! It’s always been important to look fantastic on the ballet stage – even in the days of powdered wigs and silks!
I swear, the costumes are even more glorious on Planet Earth. You can’t possibly deny the creativity and inspiration of a real hand-sewn, beautifully embellished costume, or a glittering headdress. Honestly, every show I’ve ever attended in London or on Broadway just fills my mind with fashion inspiration! And all of those costumes started as tiny little sketches somewhere...
Think about it, you can create a ballet costume design! And then wear it at the theatre! A little more inspiration! You’ve got to find a way to make ballet your own. Don’t just love it, be it. Embrace it. I don’t need you to be in a pink tutu (though it would make my week), just bring a little twinkle to your world, like the stars, that always bring their own sparkling magic!
Soaring Onward Through The GalaxyNow, I've had such an extraordinary time here on planet Earth, I've got to get back to my ship. It’s time for my next destination and the next great ballet experience! Remember, ballet isn't just something to be viewed on a screen or experienced from the balcony. It’s a way to live and move. And a way to wear a pink tutu, even if that tutu just happens to be a vision in your head, ready to dance to its own heart's content.
Before I go, dear readers, do share some of your ballet experiences. Let's make a galaxy of ballets together! Do you have a favourite ballerina? Maybe you love one of the incredible male ballet stars? Or perhaps, you even are a ballerina and are living your dreams? Tell me everything, you glamorous space-wanderers! I love reading about all your dancing adventures, from planet Earth to the furthest reaches of space!
Keep that glitter and those twirls going! I can’t wait to see what's next, what ballet performance or history fact will next steal my heart and be my newest, dazzling story to tell in my blog.
Until next week! And remember, Keep the pink tutu love going! ✨💫
Always and forever,
Emma
