Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu World! This week, I'm bursting with excitement as I've just returned from the most magical intergalactic adventure - a ballet voyage to Planet Earth!
Ooh, it was fabulous! My spaceship landed in a little place called Derbyshire, you know, right here on Earth! My, oh my, it's quite a contrast to my usual sparkly cosmic destinations. The landscape was green and hilly, and the air...well, let's just say the lack of a galactic breeze did make my perfectly styled hair go a bit wild! But I digress, my dears. The point is, Planet Earth held its own in the dazzling department.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Emma, what on Earth were you doing in Derbyshire?" Well, my dears, my passion for all things ballet is truly universal! There was this little gem of a theatre I had heard whispers of, tucked away in a village called Buxton. This, my friends, is the legendary Buxton Opera House!
Buxton is one of those beautiful, old-fashioned towns, and the Opera House sits right in the heart of it, just waiting to be discovered. The air was electric as I stepped inside. It felt like stepping back in time. This beauty boasts a spectacular Victorian interior, a true delight for the eyes!
And you know how much I adore history. This particular venue is so incredibly old, it opened its doors in 1899! The Victorian influence is absolutely stunning. Every detail of the building, from the soaring arches to the ornate chandeliers, had me spellbound. You know I have an eye for detail. The craftsmanship, it's an absolute testament to artistry from another era!
But don't let that antique charm fool you, because Buxton is alive with creativity! The stage was buzzing with a show of unparalleled brilliance! I have to confess, the dance piece had me absolutely mesmerised. There was this magical quality about the entire performance, the way the dancers glided across the stage, it was absolutely captivating.
The theme was called “Beyond The Veil”. Such intrigue! As you know, I do enjoy a bit of the mystery in a good ballet. I'm always happy when ballet companies venture beyond the traditional narrative!
Planet Earth is full of surprises! I truly believe there's an amazing level of dance talent across the cosmos, and Derbyshire's Buxton Opera House just confirmed that. Oh, it's just glorious, the kind of talent you simply have to see to believe. The costumes! A vibrant kaleidoscope of colour, you could almost smell the energy emanating from each movement!
The best part? I actually had the chance to catch a performance on the last night of their season. Now, I'm just a bit of a show off, but I know a grand finale when I see one. The sheer talent on display during that finale left me absolutely gobsmacked. It was just one of those unforgettable moments. They finished the night with the most incredible* ovation. All those delighted gasps, my dears! Pure bliss.
This wasn’t just a ballet performance; it was a total theatrical experience!
Buxton's Opera House is also home to some spectacular architecture, the craftsmanship alone is simply dazzling! It's just gorgeous! From the plush velvet seating to the dazzling gold leaf embellishments – I loved every minute of exploring it. And while we’re on the topic of details, my lovelies, it's essential to point out that Buxton even boasts its own iconic dance steps - known as “the Buxton Walk!” You've got to see this to believe it! (Perhaps I’ll try it on my next journey to Derbyshire! I think the dance will require my new pair of silver-studded tutus).
You simply can’t overestimate the power of live performances! Every time I return to planet Earth I am so surprised at how diverse and engaging the theater culture is!
Let's talk outfits, shall we? Naturally, a vibrant, pink, tutu ensemble was my choice for this interstellar voyage. As you know, it’s practically my cosmic uniform, my dears. A perfectly pleated pink tutu just adds that sprinkle of whimsy, don't you think? It’s important to make a grand entrance! I think my outfit absolutely complemented the grand dame architecture of the Buxton Opera House. I did try to dress the part a bit more demurely as this isn’t the kind of galactic venue where I usually perform, but my signature tutu was a must!
After the performance – which truly was magical! I got to explore a bit of Buxton! Now I’m sure you’re just a bit envious, I could tell you everything about the fab boutiques on my fashion shopping spree in this little Derbyshire village - but this is just a tiny snippet of my blog post!* I do love telling all about my explorations in each and every detail, my dears! If you want the insider tips, you know what to do! Make sure you follow me on social media. The link is on the sidebar.
One thing that surprised me was just how welcoming Buxton’s community is. Such charm! Everyone was so warm, kind and eager to share the delights of the area, from the charming little cafés to the local markets.
Oh my, what a place for a fashion enthusiast like me! I discovered an adorable little shop, hidden down a cobbled street, absolutely overflowing with vintage accessories and sparkly shoes - heaven! And you can't go wrong with vintage clothing, because what's old is absolutely new again!
It really is astounding, just how much beauty lies in the mundane – it’s so refreshing, how this planet Earth holds treasures that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else in the universe.
I hope to revisit Derbyshire, it's the most delightful spot for a pink tutu-clad traveler, especially if you have an adventurous spirit and an appreciation for theatrical gems. There is such a huge culture scene going on and I know you’d absolutely adore exploring its fascinating ballet scene.
*My dear, my quest to bring the universe into pink tutus continues. I'm confident I will soon find more inspiring tutus and stylish fashion for us all. But for now, it’s back to planet Earth and a little exploration, darling. Perhaps a fashion exhibition or another theatrical adventure...Stay tuned for the next blog! *
