Planet Earth Blog Post #1581: Tutu-ing Around the Galaxy!

Hello my dearest Tutu-tastic friends!

It’s Wednesday again, which means it's time for another blog post from your favourite pink tutu-wearing intergalactic traveller! This week, I’m writing to you from none other than the beautiful planet Earth! (Can you believe it?!). I'm back after a whirlwind tour of the Andromeda Galaxy, where I just HAD to do a show at the Andromeda Opera House - the swirling cosmic nebulae as my backdrop were absolutely breath-taking! But, alas, all good things must come to an end and here I am, feeling a little bit homesick for my trusty spaceship and longing for the starry void… But, Earth holds a special place in my heart, and it always feels good to be home.

Speaking of home, today is a very special date here on Planet Earth: August 13th, 2025. It's the anniversary of the first ever Tutu-athon! Can you believe it? It's been 15 years since we gathered in my hometown of Derbyshire, England and waltzed our hearts out in a giant pink tutu for 24 whole hours. It was an unforgettable experience and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

If you haven’t heard of the Tutu-athon before, it's a fundraiser to promote awareness about the beautiful world of ballet and encourage children of all ages to experience the joy and creativity of dance. Every year, a host city is selected on Planet Earth for the main event and there are smaller Tutu-athons all across the globe – even in other galaxies!

Since I first stepped onto the intergalactic dance scene, I’ve been trying to spread the message of love and joy through tutu-wearing across the vast universe, and I’ve got to tell you, it’s going down a storm! I was at the Mars Ballet Academy yesterday - they were doing a contemporary piece about the struggle between the Martian Sand People and the Lunar Elves, absolutely fabulous choreography! The entire audience, including the Martian Emperor, were dressed in the most stunning pink tutus. Honestly, it warmed my cosmic heart. It’s always such a joy seeing my intergalactic friends, but when they get all dolled up in their tutus, I can’t help but squeal with delight!

Speaking of outfits, today, for the Tutu-athon anniversary, I'm rocking a fab new number - a custom-designed hot pink, star-spangled tutu! My friend, Zigi from Zigi’s Tutus on planet Zirkon, designed it especially for me - I love how the pink pops against the black starlight material. It's a perfect outfit for this exciting event. You’ll have to catch the post on Instagram later!

Speaking of fabulous clothes and stunning looks, one of the things that always gets me excited about returning to Earth is shopping! I can’t believe what I just discovered - there’s this amazing new vintage shop in London! They’ve got an incredible collection of old theatre costumes from the Victorian era, even an original pink tulle tutu with embroidered swans - just divine! And, believe me, I’ve seen some beautiful things in the far corners of the galaxy. I was absolutely in love! You just wouldn't believe the pieces you find in old costumes trunks on the more distant planets. But back to Planet Earth for now.

Today’s my last day in Derbyshire, so naturally, I had to pop into ‘La Petite Danse’, my favourite dance shop for a quick dance gear haul! Can’t go anywhere without new dance shoes and, of course, another pink tutu or two. It’s always such a good time to catch up with Maisie, the owner - she's got a wonderful sense of humour and we always have a good giggle together! I couldn't leave without trying out the latest pointe shoe - let's just say I did some serious pirouettes!

Tonight I'll be heading to the Derbyshire Town Hall for the special Tutu-athon performance - the show has to be good to mark 15 years, so I’ve got my best outfit ready! A vibrant coral pink tutu and silver stilettos - my very special pink sparkling diamond brooch (that I snagged from a costume auction in Andromeda!) completes the look, of course!

Before I go, I'd love to know where your favourite places to get dressed up in a pink tutu are! Do tell me in the comments!

Stay fabulous, and may your tutus always sparkle!

Your intergalactic pink tutu queen, Emma
