Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu World! It’s Wednesday, which means a brand new blog post, and I’m positively bursting with excitement to share my latest adventures with you! As you know, my love for ballet knows no bounds, and this week, I’ve been utterly immersed in the beautiful world of ballet right here on planet Earth. Yes, my fabulous travels have brought me back to our humble home planet, and what a treat it's been!
Now, before we delve into all the glittering details, I just have to say, I'm so glad to be back in my comfy pink tutu, shimmering like a disco ball under the earthly sun. It’s always so much fun exploring new worlds, but there’s no place like home, you know? Even if that home does have gravity and a decidedly non-sparkly atmosphere!
Speaking of gravity, it did mean I had to pull out all the stops to find some dazzling outfits for my return to Earth! I spent an entire afternoon lost in the celestial glow of the grand department store "Liberty", you know, the one with the iconic Art Nouveau façade? Honestly, darling, you can't possibly leave London without a trip to this fashion paradise. And let me tell you, the colours and fabrics were simply out of this world! I scooped up a breathtaking sequined bodice and a luxurious tulle skirt, both in the most divine shade of pink, of course! I just know they'll look fabulous on stage. You see, I have to stay sharp, even when I’m just planet-hopping for fun.
Because darling, it’s true, even an intergalactic ballet superstar like me has to work hard! My next performance will be at the world-famous Sadler’s Wells in London. I'm feeling truly honoured to be performing there, and I promise to bring you all the juicy details next week! It’s going to be a big show, with an orchestra, amazing lighting and costumes, the whole nine yards, my dears. It's not often you see a pink tutu-clad ballerina performing to a live orchestra on Earth, and this time it's gonna be absolutely spectacular!
But it wasn't all sequins and stage lights this week, darling. This past Saturday, I took a little trip to the stunning Royal Opera House, right in the heart of Covent Garden. Oh my word, the sheer grandeur of it all! It felt as if the building itself had been sprinkled with magic dust, just like a princess from a fairytale! Of course, I was there for a show, the exquisite Swan Lake – an absolute masterpiece of ballet and emotion. I’ve seen it many times over, even at the Bolshoi Theatre back in my younger days, but each performance is a unique experience. And this one was particularly dazzling with a stunning rendition by a young prodigy, darling. Imagine a beautiful girl, so elegant in her white swan costume, with an impossible grace. I could have watched her glide across the stage for eternity. It was the perfect blend of pure emotion, exquisite choreography, and truly stunning costumes. Truly magical!
However, let's not forget the actual fashion aspect! Now, if you follow me, you know I'm obsessed with every aspect of ballet, and that includes its history, including its history! This week I’ve been brushing up on the evolution of the tutu – did you know that tutus were actually first introduced in the late 19th century by Marius Petipa for the ballerina Marie Taglioni? Well, darling, there is a whole book’s worth of history to share with you all, but I think I’ve said enough! I don't want to spoil all the surprises!
Speaking of surprises, one thing I adore about exploring our little blue marble is finding unique, quirky corners of the world. You know, the kind of places that whisper stories, hold history and charm in every cobblestone. This week, I was whisked away to the most darling little town called Bakewell. Nestled in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside, Bakewell is just an hour’s drive from my hometown of Derby. If you’re in Derbyshire, my darling, you have to experience Bakewell. They're famous for their Bakewell tart – a sweet, sticky, buttery, delightful creation, and honestly, the only word for it is "heavenly". The delicious Bakewell tart was created, you’ll be surprised to hear, not for royalty, but for ordinary folks in an everyday bakery. Now there's a story you won't find in history books!
Speaking of food, dear friends, did you know that the Earth has this truly divine chocolate shop called Charbonnel et Walker in London? Now, this shop isn't just a shop, darling. It's an experience! And when it comes to chocolates, there is truly something magical in their chocolate truffles - oh my word, their flavours are quite heavenly. You've got to try their luxurious selection of truffles, my darlings. If you don’t want to get on your spaceship to explore Earth, then go and grab yourself a box from Charbonnel et Walker, a taste of luxury! I highly recommend their Salted Caramel truffles - simply divine. And the best part? The shop is literally right across the street from the Royal Opera House! That makes for a truly perfect ballet day in London!
However, my darling, let me tell you, the best way to explore a city is on foot! I love discovering all the nooks and crannies that get lost in guidebooks. I wandered down streets cobbled with history, discovering the charm of quaint little boutiques filled with everything from hand-knitted sweaters to vintage postcards. Each one had a story to tell, each window holding a secret treasure just waiting to be uncovered! There was so much beauty and creativity, darling! I just couldn't resist snapping a few pictures, as always! Don’t worry, I’ve included them in my blog today! Take a look!
Remember to always wear a pink tutu. Now, darling, as much as I adore the Earth, the truth is, I can't stay away from the stars for too long. There are galaxies to explore, worlds to conquer, and dances to choreograph in the vast expanse of the universe. But I'll be sure to update you on my journey through Pink Tutu World every week, darling, so stay tuned.
As I fly away from the Earth, my lovely readers, please remember - don't let life pass you by. Dance, dream, twirl and explore. And most importantly, embrace the joy of a pink tutu, and never stop believing in the magic of a dance.
See you next week! Lots of love,
Emma
