Hello darlings!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu World blog post, direct from Planet Earth! Can you believe it's March already? I swear time flies when you're busy galavanting around the galaxy, trying on tutus, seeing ballets and generally spreading the gospel of pink tulle and pirouettes!
This week, I'm back on Earth, having jetted back from a whirlwind trip to Alpha Centauri. My spaceship was a bit delayed because, honestly, I just couldn't resist buying an absolutely divine lilac sequined tutu from the intergalactic fashion house of Sirius B - you know me, always on the lookout for a new sparkly addition to my collection!
Anyway, speaking of Earth... it’s good to be back home, even if the weather has been a bit chilly, a bit drizzly and the only tutu in sight is on my own lovely frame! Oh well, there’s plenty of time for more fabulous fashion moments during this visit!
A Night of Ballet on Planet Earth
Tonight, my darling friends, is a special night because… it's ballet night! I am, of course, attending a performance at the Royal Opera House in London. My schedule is chock-a-block this week but I wouldn't miss this performance for all the cosmic dust in the Milky Way! The programme features one of my all-time favourite ballets: Swan Lake, the epitome of elegance, drama and a dazzling showcase for graceful tutu-clad ballerinas. I've always been drawn to the duality of the story, the black and white of Odette and Odile. It really plays with those light and dark emotions so brilliantly! I can’t wait to be transported by the music, the storytelling, the dance and the incredible tutus of course! I do love the romanticism of the classic tutu designs, they truly are a work of art. They always say there’s a certain je ne sais quoi to the classic swan tutu!
My Outfit for Ballet
Of course, no trip to the theatre would be complete without a fabulous outfit. Today, I’m channeling my inner Victorian ballerina! Think high neck, sweet sleeves, full tulle skirt in the most luscious shade of petal pink… it’s practically a vintage tutu! A pair of exquisite ivory satin gloves, a pearl necklace that would make Queen Victoria swoon and of course a perfectly placed pearl tiara!
Oh, and did I mention my ballet flats? It wouldn't be a ballet outing without a fabulous pair of shoes to twirl around in! I've paired my outfit with a stunning pair of specially designed ballet flats. They are pale pink, like a sugared almond, with a tiny crystal-studded bow at the toe, designed exclusively for me, my darling, by one of Earth's most talented shoemakers. Let's just say these aren’t for pirouetting on the streets… but they do make me feel like a true ballet goddess!
Talking Tutus: A Look at Ballet History
After the ballet, I’ll probably take a trip to the National Ballet Archive at the Victoria and Albert Museum. I love exploring the world of ballet costumes and, of course, tutus. Did you know that the tutu, as we know it, wasn’t invented until the late 1800s? It was first introduced in La Sylphide, which I might add, is one of my other favourite ballets! The ballet russe and the Ballets Russes made the tutu so very famous and, ever since then, it’s been an integral part of classical ballet fashion.
The romantic tutu style, with its wide, floating tulle skirt, is often linked with the iconic image of the swan in Swan Lake. There’s something truly breathtaking about watching those wide tutus whirl on stage. I always find myself reaching for a pen and sketchbook during performances because a little scribbling often helps me understand the relationship between a ballet's style, costumes and choreography!
Now, some people might say the tutu is passé, old fashioned even, but I disagree. I think it's an utterly fabulous example of how ballet has captured beauty, drama and artistry in such a simple and stylish design. Tutus are the perfect example of what fashion, art and dance can achieve together. I know you can't quite wear a full-blown romantic tutu for your daily life, but it's amazing to think that ballet dancers are so often at the forefront of innovative fashion ideas!
Fashion Frenzy in London: A Shopping Spree!
While in London, I am of course going to indulge in a little fashion frenzy. After the ballet, my friends and I will be taking a trip to The Liberty of London, because there's no better place to find beautiful fabric, lovely vintage style and fabulous inspiration. The interior is divine with intricate displays, gorgeous wallpaper and stunning architecture! And they have an amazing shoe department!
There’s nothing better than browsing through fabric, lace, trims, sparkly embellishments and of course, finding some new additions to my ballet wardrobe! Maybe I’ll pick up a new pastel pink ribbon, a vintage-style dress to go with my favourite pearl necklace or maybe even a beautiful pair of velvet ballerina slippers.
My Favourite Things in the Universe
Now, I'm not one for keeping things a secret, so I’ve made a list of my very favourite things in the universe, right now! Get ready for a splash of pink-tinted glamour:
1. My Pink Tutu Collection: I think I may have said this once or twice before, but my pink tutu collection is something of an obsession… I like them full and romantic, classic and timeless, elegant and sparkly… just like me! Each one has a story!
2. Spaceships: The universe is simply too vast and beautiful not to explore it in a spectacularly elegant fashion, hence my love for spaceships. What’s not to love about flying around the galaxy, admiring the swirling nebulas, trying on new tutus and meeting extraordinary creatures. Did I mention my spaceship’s pink interior? It even has a rotating floor with a built in mirror so I can perfect my pirouette before my next intergalactic performance!
3. Shopping for Clothes: I believe we are all worthy of beautiful and joyful things, and what better way to embrace our inner ballerina than with fabulous clothing? Whether it’s a grand dress, a pair of perfectly pink ballerina slippers or the latest Tutu Toppers from The House of Pink Tutu, I simply adore shopping for anything beautiful that helps to showcase the magical ballerina that lives inside us all!
*4. Dancing: * My passion, my art, my life. The movement, the stories, the expression. It is simply divine and such a powerful way to connect to your own creativity, grace and soul. Of course, there’s nothing better than sharing this with friends, watching the professionals, and experiencing the sheer brilliance of a truly stunning performance!
5. Spreading the Gospel of Pink: * Pink, as you all know, is simply divine, but even better in the form of tutus! You know I believe that *EVERYONE on this amazing planet, and in the vast expanse of the galaxy, deserves to twirl, sparkle and wear pink… and most definitely wear a tutu. I always try to incorporate this belief in my performance choices – I’ll choose music, stories and costume that embraces the beautiful spectrum of pink, the glorious power of dance and of course, a healthy dose of twirling, twirling and twirling!
Let’s Embrace The World of Ballet!
This week, let's celebrate ballet in all its wonderful glory: the swirling skirts, the elegance of movement, the magical stories and the endless potential for a tutu to transform any ordinary day into something extraordinary.
