Darling, it's Wednesday and that can only mean one thing... it's Pink Tutu World time! This week, I'm whisking you back to Planet Earth, where I'm spending some precious time reminiscing over my recent terrific Earthly escapades! Now, let's face it, after flitting about the galaxy in my trusty spaceship, the Pink Stardust (did I tell you it has an awesome neon pink glow!), there's nothing quite like the feeling of grounding yourself on this big, beautiful, pink-loving planet.
Firstly, a huge hello to all my fellow Earthlings, especially my dear friends back in Derbyshire! It's always such a treat to return to my home turf - that gorgeous, lush countryside, the charming cobblestone streets of my hometown... sigh It just makes me miss home, you know? I find myself remembering the excitement of every Tuesday night ballet class as a little girl, wearing my bright pink tutu, dreaming of pirouetting under the starry Derbyshire skies. Ah, such memories...
My recent foray into the exciting world of ballet on Planet Earth
You know, this trip was especially special. As an aspiring tutu trendsetter (with a bit of a penchant for pink, you'll have noticed!), there's no place better to see how fashion intersects with the divine art of dance. The ballet scene here was just electrifying - I practically lived for those days I spent whipping myself into a fashion frenzy at London's chicest boutiques. And, oh, the theatre shows! Talk about spectacular!
My absolute favourite show, you see, was the “Cinderella” ballet performance, just outside of London. It was pure, unadulterated enchantment, with the costumes... divine! The gorgeous dancers, swirling in their light and airy tutus, made the whole show positively magical. But the star of the show, my dears, was the enchanting pumpkin carriage crafted from sparkling silver sequins - my inner child was absolutely swooning.
The grand finale featured an absolutely breathtaking array of tutus in the most incredible colours, with the ballerina's dancing and spinning as if they were literally floating on clouds! Honestly, it was enough to make a girl believe in fairytales again. After the performance, I found myself chatting with the costumer who was so full of brilliant stories and fun facts. He explained the incredible detail and intricate artistry that goes into every single stitch, even a simple-looking pink tutu! He spoke of fabrics like tulle, satin and organza, each so fine and beautiful - I could have chatted about tutus and fabric for hours!
Oh! And did I tell you I bumped into a lovely ballet dancer who’s the daughter of an incredible tutu-making family? She even offered to show me around their studio, and oh my gosh, let me tell you, seeing their artistry, the dedication and passion they pour into crafting each and every tutu… it’s truly inspiring! There were piles of tulle in the most incredible colours. My mind started to spin with all sorts of gorgeous designs, ready to burst from my imagination and onto a page!
But, I did more than just indulge my tutu fetish
I actually squeezed in some delightful performance opportunities too. After all, I've always had a soft spot for performing on Planet Earth. Let's just say, those beautiful, spacious ballrooms of grand Victorian mansions always create the most beautiful backdrop for my show! This trip, I gave several charming little “pink-tutu themed” performances, using the graceful space to choreograph some new numbers - and to flaunt some stunning new pink tulle creations I’d snagged from a little vintage shop tucked away in the pretty Derbyshire countryside!
Oh! And, did I mention, darling, that the ballrooms, complete with stunning grand staircases and elegant balconies, were the perfect stage to unleash my inner theatrical flair.
Ballet and a bit of retail therapy, for the win!
As always, no trip to Planet Earth is complete without some fabulous shopping excursions, right? My top destination was "The Covent Garden," in London - the epicentre of style and chic. You see, I'm a true pink tutu aficionado and love nothing more than a good browse of London’s designer stores, on the lookout for the perfect pink tutu fabric or some sparkling rhinestones. This time, however, I was inspired by a wonderful new fabric store, “Fabrications” in Kensington. The owner, a delightful older lady with the kindest heart and most charming accent, even offered to show me a secret, back-room collection of shimmering, shimmering fabrics that are just begging to become magnificent, pink tutus, you see!
The sheer brilliance of this store, the unique selection of beautiful fabrics - you can practically feel the energy crackling between the rolls and bolts - simply blew my mind. The fabrics had such an exciting history, too, so many interesting details... Some from antique silk-producing factories in France, and others, a mix of vintage fabrics - beautiful satins, sparkling brocades and delicate laces - and oh, the lace! This was, quite possibly, one of the best fabrics shopping experiences I’ve ever had!
Fashion tip from a pink-loving, tutu-adoring blogger
You see, the very first step to transforming any regular piece of clothing into an “oh my gosh!” statement piece? You just need to add a touch of pink and voila! (You really need to hear it in a dramatic French accent).
The beauty of a pink tutu lies in its absolute universality. It transcends cultures, age and time, like a little dose of happiness and fun. If you're wearing pink on the street or twirling about in your home, on Planet Earth or in your spaceships - there’s absolutely no need for self-consciousness. Be yourself! Wear pink! Live a pink-tutu life, my darlings!
