Well, darlings, it's Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of my Pink Tutu World! Grab a cuppa (or a glass of bubbly - why not!) and let me whisk you away on another out-of-this-world adventure.
This week, I'm back on the ol' planet Earth, darling, a mere 7 days after a whirlwind tour of Alpha Centauri III - don't get me started on the fashions there, the colours were quite the fright! Anyway, back on dear old Earth and what better place to be, on this lovely, crisp January day, than the legendary home of the Royal Ballet! Yes, that's right, my darlings, the Coliseum in London. Such a grand and beautiful venue. And the reason I'm here? Well, you won't believe this... but you know how much I adore history and history and fashion history especially when it comes to the Tutu, right? Well, today, my lovelies, is the 75th Anniversary of The Royal Ballet's First Performance! And I couldn't miss this once-in-a-lifetime event! They are going to be showing the actual performance from 1946 - Swan Lake - how absolutely thrilling!!
It's a real honour to be able to witness such an important milestone in the world of dance. My heart is literally beating out of my sparkly pink ballet shoes! (Of course they're matching my pink feather boa, my signature colour, naturally - you know how much I adore the colour pink). I think the best bit about this trip to Earth, besides seeing the original Swan Lake, is actually meeting Nina!! Yes that Nina, Nina Ananiashvili. What an incredible, elegant, majestic, and fabulous ballerina! A complete legend. Can you believe she came and sat right next to me and even let me try on her amazing tutu!! Oh, the glamour and grace!!
Oh! And my darlings, while I'm on the subject of tutus, have you ever seen such magnificent ballet footwear? I mean the original 1946 shoes? Sigh Absolutely dreamy! Just like *I want to feel when I dance, you know? Elegant, graceful, with a little hint of sparkle. What's a ballet girl without some sparkle?!
We were able to get a tour of the actual Royal Ballet Studios before the big Swan Lake event - and I am speechless! Oh, I think I mentioned this in a previous post - how every single ballet studio around the world is adorned in the colour pink?! *That's how I knew I would love ballet! It must be fate! It's pink for a reason, lovelies. Pink is feminine. Pink is soft, yet powerful. And above all - Pink is fabulous, darlings! And of course, when you combine that pink magic with dance, with these amazingly talented performers who make it all look so incredibly effortless? The whole experience, for a ballerina and fashion lover, like myself, is *divine!
Did you know, dearies, that the tutus used in this Swan Lake 1946, are some of the most historically significant tutus in the whole universe?! And *look how perfectly they are kept, they are displayed like precious jewels! This whole Royal Ballet place - the Coliseum really is a treasure, lovelies! I know that my post needs to be on a fashion theme so, to make sure I am in the spirit of the Royal Ballet's 75th Birthday, I've of course put on my most beautiful ballet-themed dress - the best bit of it - the neckline is completely heart-shaped, to honour my lovely ballet friends. Isn't it absolutely adorable?! My darlings, it has got to be my absolute favourite dress in my wardrobe, right next to my little ballet bag. The little sequin flower details are just too pretty for words. I know how much my darlings on the intergalactic blogosphere adore this sort of design. So elegant, feminine, so.... Pink !!
As always, before the performance, it was time for a bit of shopping. Oh my, did you know, my loves, the biggest store for ballet shoes in the whole of the planet Earth, is in Covent Garden!! You can just picture it, can't you? Rows upon rows, mountains of perfectly poised ballet shoes, ready to pirouette the galaxy away! Every single size and shape and design... You name it and you'll find it there, even sparkly, gold shoes (not my usual look, I'm much more into soft pinks, darling!). Now that's my idea of heaven, my lovelies.
I thought I had better be extra special for the Swan Lake showing today, as we are surrounded by so much ballet royalty - so, naturally, it was time for the perfect Pink Tutu. * What's a trip to the Coliseum without my tutu? I wouldn't leave the *space station without my ballet kit and my very special Pink Tutu, lovelies. There are quite a few to choose from you know? How *many Pink Tutus can you own? As many as possible. You know it is not just about the colours, my darlings, it's all about how they make me feel! And Pink, and a tutu are two of the most *feminine, graceful and beautiful things on the universe. You see my vision for a better, happier *more glamorous world: Everyone in a *Pink Tutu. * Imagine what a happy universe that would be, it's my mission!* For tonight I was feeling a *soft and floaty, elegant, graceful look - so it had to be my vintage pink tulle Tutu, with a delicate deconstructed, frilled hem (think romantic) and a tiny pink ribbon with a *heart-shaped crystal (I couldn't resist it) tied in the centre. Perfection!
And finally, let's talk about the actual show! Darling, Swan Lake is nothing short of a ballet masterpiece. It really is. A perfect ballet show - I always adore this particular production - and if it is performed on the Earth I just have to go. Every time - of course, I always travel by spaceship - there's something so *magical about flying in the night, watching the moon go by. There's just nothing better.
You have to admit though - the magic of Swan Lake is very special - there's just something about that story you can't describe. *It takes you on a journey, through a world of *imagination and fantasy, love and loss, *all that beautiful heartbreak. *It is absolutely breathtaking. The original version just sings to my soul. You'd think *every ballerina on Earth has already seen this version, but somehow I never get bored with the dancing, the performance and the story, it is just such a pleasure. As Iโve said - it makes you feel feminine, graceful and strong - and the whole audience is in thrall!
I think that if everyone on Earth (or the Universe) had the opportunity to see Swan Lake, the whole world would be a much more understanding place and we would all feel connected! *I mean *why should ballet only be available to humans on Earth! That is one of the reasons *I am so busy travelling around the galaxy.
Anyway my loves, I am out of time it's been a busy, busy week with this ballet show. Of course, there had to be a celebratory dinner, in a little boutique, Parisian style restaurant. *They did an absolutely beautiful pink macaron dessert! * The flavours of *pink lemonade and *rosewater were *delicious!! * I will have to visit this sweet spot again on my next trip to Planet Earth!
Well darlings, I'm exhausted but it's been a truly amazing trip back to planet Earth, and you know I will be back!
Don't forget Pink Tutu World is live every Wednesday at www.pink-tutu.com, and if you love my posts, why not come and see me perform?! I'll be touring the galaxy soon - I *never keep my little pink tutu shoes still for too long!
Catch you all soon!
