Hello my lovely pink tutu enthusiasts! Welcome to this week's blog post from yours truly, Emma, your pink-loving, tutu-obsessed blogger, travelling the universe in search of all things twirly and delightful. Today, I'm back on Planet Earth, after an exciting intergalactic adventure, and feeling ready to share the most dazzling and delightful discoveries.
Before we delve into all the celestial shenanigans, let me quickly tell you about this week's big event. Today, on Planet Earth, it’s Thursday 24th January 2029! A little insider fact, it's a pretty important date here because a few centuries back they celebrated this day as a national holiday for their greatest poet. A real fancy fellow, you could say. But now they mainly use this day as a day to recognise the talent of all sorts of poets - and we’re talking all sorts of poetry, not just the posh kind. Isn't that amazing? Such dedication to art. They’re really going all out with the National Poetry Day festivities. They're hosting loads of free poetry slams and performances in public parks, libraries, cafes – everywhere! Now I'm not a poet, but you know I can't miss a good performance. So I'm hoping to catch some talented bards spouting out some rhythmic masterpieces – and maybe grab a hot chocolate whilst I'm at it! 😉
Now, back to my trip! As you know, my spaceship landed last night. After all that space-travelling, my legs are begging for a little tutus-and-tights ballet session! Thankfully, Planet Earth has a world-famous ballet academy right here in Derby. It's the perfect place for me to kick-off my week and remind my bod what proper pirouettes are all about.
And guess what?! Today is the official opening of a brand new "History of Tutus" exhibit at Derby Museum. I’ve heard whisperings that the show boasts rare tutus from throughout history – we're talking medieval to modern – all dazzling, and bursting with glorious detail. Oh, and did I mention? This fabulous exhibit features tutus from the famous Sadler’s Wells, Royal Ballet and the Ballet Russe. Oh, this museum really is a ballet lover's dream come true.
It's also National Pink Day on Planet Earth today! Isn't it marvellous that it coincides with my blog? My mission here? Get the entire planet sporting pink tutus! Yes, my dream is to bring the universe together in a glorious symphony of pink and twirling joy! One tutu at a time, eh?
Okay, so after my morning workout at the academy, it's off to the museum, where I’ll be adding some of those historic pink tutus to my Instagram collection – just because I can. I also have to say, a big part of this blog's inspiration comes from seeing these historical tutus. Seeing them hanging there – a reflection of centuries of artistic passion. The creative spirit never fades. It just evolves, adapts. Makes me really believe that fashion will be filled with tutus forever. And for those of you who've not yet embraced the pink tutu, this exhibition may be the push you need! 😉
After my museum trip, I plan to do a bit of shopping for some local pink treats. And who knows? Maybe I’ll find some vintage ballet-inspired clothes or maybe some funky street fashion! After all, I’m a strong believer that even the wildest streetwear has roots in ballet history, so if you find any cool designs or prints on your shopping trips, always check for some ballet inspiration.
This evening, I'm off to a special gala show featuring the local Derby ballet school's year-end performance. These kids really know how to spin and jump and twirl with such fantastic energy, you’ll have your toes tapping and heart singing! Plus, I’ve been told there will be a few surprise acts too. They've promised it’s an extravaganza. You just can’t miss a chance to see something like that, so I’ll be taking loads of pictures to share on Instagram!
Later, in the evening, I’m planning to see the National Poetry Day performances and meet a couple of local poetry fans and writers! I just can’t wait to share a cuppa, catch up on some verse and perhaps chat about tutu trends – if you think tutus aren't a valid source of artistic inspiration, you’ve just not got enough imagination! After all, a tutu is basically a poem in fabric. It's art in movement, just waiting to be admired! I plan to spend the rest of the day exploring this creative city, taking in the unique street art and snapping away with my trusty pink camera.
On a slightly more practical note, after a while in Derby, I need to plan my next trip. Now, this one’s going to be a long one, but I’m very excited! Next stop is none other than London! Yep, London - a city renowned for fashion, culture and, of course, fabulous theatre. It’s a city steeped in theatrical history and one where ballet has long played a prominent role! From the world-renowned Royal Opera House, home to the Royal Ballet, to the breathtaking Sadler's Wells theatre, London is a ballet lover's paradise. It's an exciting mix of classic ballet productions and contemporary dance shows, with experimental and inspiring performances from world-class dancers, all in the heart of one of the world's most culturally rich cities. Oh, how I can't wait to share this adventure with you, and who knows? We might even witness some of the new ballet designers at their peak – I simply love those beautiful custom pieces.
To top it all off, I’m taking part in a fashion show for my brand, Pink Tutu World, in central London! We’ve been working hard to perfect this collection, so I can't wait to unveil my new line of tutus designed for both Earthlings and space voyagers. I promise to be doing a huge blog post with all the photos next week – with the special London launch coming up. I want everyone to look forward to rocking a brand new tutu this summer. Think glitter, sequins, sparkle, colours! This is your time to find a statement tutu and embrace your inner diva!
For the London trip, I will be staying at a new boutique hotel in Covent Garden. Apparently, there’s a really cool vintage clothing store on the ground floor and they’re opening a tea shop where you can get delicious treats like pink hot chocolate and pastel cakes. Just the thing for a fashionable traveller like me!
The most important aspect of my journey is the fact that I'm on the cusp of fulfilling my greatest goal: to have every soul in the universe twirling in a pink tutu. But, more than that, it’s also a message of unity and celebration. Wearing pink doesn’t just show off your style. It’s a message of friendship and togetherness, an idea I hope to spread with every step I take.
And to conclude this post – to quote a great pink loving person - "You only live once, so wear the damn pink tutu! “ – Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City - you guys knew it would come to that, didn't you?! 😁
As I'm just about to hop onto the train and leave for the city centre for my morning ballet class, I’ll have to finish here! But do keep coming back every week! I’m posting a new blog post every Wednesday at www.pink-tutu.com – join my pink revolution and twirl into the galaxy!
