Ciao bella! ?
It's Emma here, reporting live from the fashion capital of the world - Milan! The sun is shining, the gelato is melting (it's SO good here!), and I've just finished a spot of tutu-themed shopping - the pink tutu trend is taking the world by storm! It's so good to see tutus everywhere.
This week in Milan, I've been on the hunt for all things pink and tutu-tastic. My suitcase was overflowing with ballet-inspired fashion, and let me tell you, Milan definitely delivers.
Tutu Travels: Trams and Trains to Milan
It's official, travelling to Milan by train is definitely the way to go. The views were breathtaking. Fields of sunflowers stretching for miles, small quaint villages, rolling countryside and cute, rustic Italian towns - pure bliss. As my train journey unfolded, the rhythm of the tracks matched the waltz I was dreaming about!
You just know when you step off the train at Milano Centrale and take in the buzz of this vibrant city that an amazing time is ahead. It's one of my favourite railway stations in the whole world, because it reminds me so much of Paris’ Gare du Nord, especially that magnificent glass roof. After the train journey and a quick bite to eat, I headed for a walk down a nearby shopping street, where my quest for perfect tutus began.
Fashion Fiasco
Oh my goodness, you've just GOT to check out this store, La Boutique Rosa! It's like a dream for any ballerina. From satin to tulle, lace to velvet, every shade of pink imaginable, and oh-so-many fabulous tutu styles. You can imagine I went a little bit crazy. I might just have a whole new tutu collection to showcase soon, watch this space. I think the pink tutu trend is here to stay - it’s truly taking off everywhere, you can even find it on the catwalks at fashion week! You know, the whole thing started with me. The tutu movement, all the pink. And I love how many people have got behind me on my mission. My aim is to get the whole world into pink tutus - everyone deserves a bit of sparkle, a touch of twirl in their lives, right? ?
Now, a lot of people think that pink and tutus belong solely on stage or in the ballet studio, but honestly, they’re perfect for any occasion. Let's bring a bit of ballerina style to the world. Imagine, the tutu-fication of our planet, imagine it! It would be like a glorious, twirling fairy tale. ?
Back to the Real World (Just a Little!)
OK, enough of my daydreaming!
After I'd bought some new tutus (a few!), I knew that I had to explore this exciting city. Milan is a true treat for the senses.
The Beauty of the Galleria
First stop, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan’s most elegant shopping arcade. Think gorgeous mosaics, opulent interiors, and designer boutiques galore. You can't go to Milan and not explore it! I had a look in some shops (although nothing could compete with my La Boutique Rosa haul), then I spotted a spot for some well-earned refreshments, tucked away on a hidden balcony. The views were spectacular - perfect for people-watching and observing the fabulous fashions on show.
Pizza Perfection!
It wouldn’t be a proper Italian day trip without pizza, and I am never one to resist the siren call of a freshly-baked pizza slice. I found myself sitting at a charming cafe (called "Trattoria della Pasta", oh, so Italian!). It had traditional checkered tablecloths and I ate the most delicious pizza – I just couldn’t resist another slice! Everything here tastes divine.
The pizza was made with the freshest mozzarella and tomato sauce. And then, you get that authentic Italian crust with a beautiful light and fluffy texture, oh, it was heavenly. It wasn't even an effort to eat it. It was all consumed with effortless grace, and absolutely no crumbs on my pink tutu. ?
Milan Moments
My Milan adventures included some lovely evenings at the ballet. It's hard to choose favourites here, because there are so many brilliant ballet companies - La Scala and the Teatro alla Scala, of course, plus many others. Milan, Italy, just knows how to throw a wonderful ballet performance. It's all about the spectacle and the passion, you can really feel the energy from the audience.
And if you’re on a budget (well, who isn't?), fear not - there are amazing opportunities to see live ballet shows at venues all around Milan! You don’t even have to travel too far to catch an exceptional performance. It makes my heart sing when I see young people (and adults) discover ballet and start taking classes. They get to experience all that beauty and grace. And of course, the magical feeling of floating across the stage, and taking centre stage wearing a sparkling pink tutu - pure joy!
Milanese Fashion
The one thing I must say is, the Italians are some of the most stylish people I have ever encountered, whether you’re looking at fashion week or the street style in Milan, you’ve got to give it to the Italians – they truly have an eye for a classic look, whether it’s sleek monochrome suits or casual linen. Milan just oozes glamour, It’s a visual feast, you’ll get outfit inspiration wherever you look - you’ll feel like you’re on a fashion magazine shoot! I've definitely been getting lots of ideas. But if I have any free time, you’ll find me on my hunt for new fashion in the shops.
Speaking of fashion, if you happen to be in Milan in the first week of September, don't miss out on the annual Milan Fashion Week. It’s a fabulous extravaganza!
Travel Tips
My top travel tip for Milan? Always, always wear comfy shoes, as you’ll be doing a LOT of walking.
And make sure to bring your most stylish outfits - this city is a fashionista's dream! There’s also plenty of room for tutu moments in Milan.
As an expert tutu traveler, I always recommend carrying a lightweight, compact foldable ballet bag to take your tutu everywhere! Just a tip, you know.
More Adventures Await...
Next week, my next journey will bring me to Venice - the floating city of dreams! It's a real must-see on any trip to Italy! And who knows what kind of pink tutu adventures await. I’m going to take some new ballet classes while I’m there, because it would be a crime to go to Italy without doing a bit of dancing.
I’ll be reporting back to you next week. Until then, let’s keep the tutu dream alive and wear that pink with pride. Remember, a little twirl can brighten anyone's day. Stay tuned to www.pink-tutu.com for more tutu-tastic adventures from me!
Love and Twirls,
