Ciao Bella! It's Wednesday, 9th December 2026, and the wind is whistling a mischievous tune through the Milanese streets as I settle in for my weekly Pink Tutu Milan post, straight from the heart of this fashion-forward city! This week, I’ve been embracing the December spirit, embracing the beauty of this city, and embracing the joy of a new ballet outfit. And let’s just say, it's been utterly glorious.
Before I even get to the heart of what I've been up to, I simply must address the elephant (or should I say, the ballerina) in the room - my new tutu. Picture this: the most vibrant, blush-pink tulle you’ve ever laid eyes on, billowing out in a majestic circle, like a cotton candy cloud dancing in the wind. I topped it off with a sparkly pink bodice and some glittery pink ballet shoes, because, you know, there's never too much pink! Honestly, darling, the entire experience has been a dazzling sensory explosion, and I simply cannot wait to share it all with you.
A Tram Through TimeNow, where were we? Oh yes! My Milan adventure began in true Pink Tutu fashion - with a charmingly romantic tram journey! Let me tell you, there is something magical about soaring through Milan's bustling streets on a bright yellow tram, especially when you're twirling in a fabulous pink tutu. People turn their heads, smile, and even wave. It’s like I'm instantly transported into a whimsical ballet where every tram ride is a graceful promenade.
Speaking of twirling, I had a wonderful class this week at the Scuola di Ballo di Milano. I love these classes - a chance to truly immerse myself in the heart of Milan's rich dance history. The energy is infectious, the instructors are simply fantastic, and, of course, I never feel quite as comfortable as I do in my pink tutu surrounded by fellow dancers! And let’s not forget the post-class cappuccino and cornetto at a little café around the corner. Every little moment in this city, especially in my favourite outfit, feels like a scene from a fairytale!
The Magic of Milan's Theatre SceneAs always, this week was filled with the exquisite joy of ballet. I found myself transported into the glittering world of the Teatro alla Scala, where the air crackles with a certain magic. This week’s production was a captivating rendition of Giselle, featuring the iconic and breathtaking choreography that brought tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my arms! The intricate steps, the flowing costumes, the dramatic passion of the performers – it was nothing short of breathtaking. Afterwards, I indulged in a delectable (and entirely justified) post-performance treat at Bar Luce, Wes Anderson’s masterpiece of a bar within the Fondazione Prada. I mean, even the food and drinks seem to be set against a stunningly theatrical backdrop. The little details are simply exquisite - think checkered floors, sleek leather booths, and oh so many books lining the walls!
Discovering Milan's Quirky CharmMilan isn’t all elegant opera houses and refined cafes. My heart is also stolen by its captivating quirkiness and playful side. This week, I took a stroll through the heart of the Navigli district. Think narrow cobblestone streets lined with cute shops, buzzing with artisan workshops, and adorned with the most stunning and elaborate street art. It's a haven for artistic expression and vibrant life, bursting with a captivating blend of tradition and modern. Oh, and I simply had to capture some photos of myself in my pink tutu in front of the Navigli’s colourful canals.
My explorations led me to a hidden gem - the Officina Fotografica. It’s a captivating, old-world photographic studio, brimming with forgotten charm and timeless appeal. Think weathered wooden furniture, vintage cameras, and that distinctive, dusty aroma of the past. I spent hours here, immersed in the history of this place, imagining the countless stories whispered behind these worn-out walls. Needless to say, I left with several adorable snaps of myself and my pink tutu!
The Beauty of Everyday Milanese FashionSpeaking of capturing memories, my trusty camera was my constant companion this week. Let's talk Milanese style! Oh my goodness, this city is bursting with creativity and personality, expressed in every single outfit. From sharp suits to avant-garde street styles, there's an electrifying confidence that radiates from every passerby. I'm not surprised - it's a city where fashion is truly a way of life.
On Wednesday evening, I decided to take the plunge and experience the renowned Quadrilatero d'Oro. As the name suggests, this neighbourhood is truly a gold mine of luxury and style! Think world-class boutiques showcasing the very best of high-end fashion. From exquisite fabrics and impeccable tailoring to statement pieces dripping in diamonds and pearls, I found myself mesmerized by the incredible craftsmanship on display. It’s a fashion lover’s paradise!
However, don’t think for a minute that Milan’s style scene is all high-fashion and fancy labels. You can find real style on every street corner here. There are so many wonderful little boutiques and shops, selling vintage treasures and unique independent designs. The beauty is that each individual defines their own personal style - there’s nothing prescriptive about it at all. From vintage 1950s-era dresses and brightly patterned silk scarves to trendy contemporary cuts and colour combinations, I find Milanese style incredibly inspiring. And the most fabulous part? I know, it seems strange to say but….the pink tutu really works here! It actually complements the colourful and dynamic energy of this city’s fashion scene wonderfully!
Sharing the Joy of Ballet with a Tiny TwirlTo close out my week in Milan, I planned a spontaneous flash mob performance with some fellow dance enthusiasts in the heart of Piazza Duomo, one of the city’s most beautiful squares. Now, you might think I’d be nervous about doing this in a pink tutu - I wouldn't want to embarrass anyone after all. But to be honest, with a pink tutu, anything goes! And the reaction we got was phenomenal! People were smiling and cheering, even joining in the little routine - it was such a beautiful and heart-warming experience. To me, it symbolizes exactly what I want to do with this Pink Tutu project – share the joy of ballet and get people twirling, whatever their age, whatever their background, in whatever they’re wearing!
Even if that means getting them into a pink tutu, or at least enjoying the whimsical style and elegance of a pink tutu on me!
Until next week, darlings. Don’t forget to live life in your pink tutu!
Ciao Bella!
