Ciao, darling! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in Milan, Italy, the fashion capital of the world! Oh, my dear, let me tell you, it was a sheer delight from start to finish, and the pink tutus definitely made their mark, wouldn't you agree?
This week, darling, I'm on a mission to share all the glitz, the glamour, the fashion, the ballet, the sheer wonder of a city that truly knows how to embrace its chic side. And you know me, dear reader, always on the lookout for a new adventure in my trusty pink tutu.
But first, let's talk about this extraordinary trip. I arrived in Milan last Wednesday after a gloriously sunny, and thankfully non-stop, Eurostar journey from Paris. I swear, the trains just love my tutus! You’d be surprised at how many envious glances I got from the Parisian locals on my way out! Oh, my dears, it truly is the best way to travel, all the comfort of your own armchair while taking in the sights from the window, feeling the soft breeze against my tulle, the pink ruffles dancing ever so slightly… it's utterly idyllic.
After a rather exhausting, yet invigorating ballet class in Paris (a beautiful fusion of classical and contemporary dance, you know… I was particularly smitten with the choreographed movements set against the Eiffel Tower!), I decided to ditch my ballerina bun, pop on a glamorous red dress, a sleek black beret, and hit the city's iconic Galeries Lafayette for some seriously serious window shopping. Honestly, the displays are enough to make any girl swoon with envy and excitement, even a seasoned pink-tutu aficionado like myself. They really know how to pull off a show, wouldn't you agree?
Once I'd sufficiently appeased my shopaholic heart, I hopped on a wonderfully vibrant Milan tram. You’ve never seen so many bright colours and textures! And of course, it was just begging to be snapped on my Insta stories. All that's missing was a dash of pink tulle and some perfectly poised poses! Oh, my dear, let me tell you, the Italians have style in spades! It's absolutely intoxicating!
Milan, you magnificent muse!
Milan’s charm just grows with every visit. There’s a certain Parisian elegance here too, you know. The beautiful cobblestone streets, the art nouveau architecture, and of course, the bustling, energetic atmosphere. It truly felt like the perfect setting for a classic romantic story! And let me tell you, with my pink tutu in tow, it felt like I was walking into the pages of a novel myself. I was practically swept off my feet! Oh, dear reader, this city is truly something else.
A Feast for the Senses: Fashion & Food
Let’s talk food. This weekend in Milan has truly been a feast for the senses, both visually and literally. Every meal has been an absolute symphony of flavours! I sampled all the local delicacies: gnocchi alla bolognese, delicious fresh pasta, perfectly roasted artichokes with anchovy and lemon, and creamy, decadent tiramisu. Oh, the absolute joy of it all! My favourite part? A delightful little café in a charming hidden alleyway that was absolutely overflowing with pink, the prettiest pastels, flowers, and even pink porcelain teacups. What a gem! You wouldn’t believe how lovely it was to sit back, relax and soak up the Parisian café ambience in my little pink paradise! I spent an entire afternoon in that divine little corner, feeling like I was starring in a French romantic comedy. My dear reader, it was like I’d stepped straight into a Monet painting!
But of course, the real stars of the show in Milan are the shops, darling. What an absolute treat for any sartorialist's soul! We’re talking couture gowns that are dreams in fabric, divine, leather-clad masterpieces, and all the whimsical frills and furbelows you could imagine, not to mention some divine and daring haute couture pieces – just everything to tickle your sartorial fancies.
You wouldn’t believe the divine pink creations I stumbled across this week. One shop in particular, “La Belle Fée,” was literally filled with every shade of pink imaginable. We’re talking rose pink, candy floss pink, and a few daring shades of magenta too! The shopkeeper, a true aficionado of fashion, showed me a truly magnificent tutu with silk rose embellishments and diamond trim, it was the perfect culmination of romanticism, drama and classic ballerina chic, truly a dream in pink!
Oh, darling, I was tempted, I truly was. I tried it on and spun in front of the mirror. I felt like a whimsical little ballet dancer on the set of “A Midsummer Night's Dream!”
Now, a confession. My lovely pink tutu almost stole the show! Imagine my delight, darling, as I strolled through Milan's fashion districts - a ballerina in a bubblegum-pink tutu! It definitely attracted some admiring glances and curious onlookers.
And who knew, my love of all things pink would take me to the “Museo della Moda e del Tessuto”! Yes, darling, it’s an absolute must-see for any fashion lover. There were beautiful garments on display, from 18th-century fashion to modern couture. There was so much to marvel at - the exquisite fabrics, the delicate embroidery, the daring designs. I even stumbled upon a museum exhibit celebrating the iconic “Barbie Pink.” Honestly, it was pink heaven! My pink tutu certainly stood out against the rich and textured hues of the museum interior, darling.
Milan: A Cultural Tapestry
Now, let's move on to Milan’s captivating cultural scene! Yes, dear reader, my week was not only a feast for the senses, but it was truly a lesson in the history of ballet and dance.
My dear, did you know Milan’s ballet scene is actually incredibly rich? I’m not just talking about stunning, world-renowned ballet companies like the Teatro alla Scala - a grand venue filled with breathtaking performances and, of course, the most stunning interiors.
This weekend, darling, I was fortunate to see “Romeo and Juliet,” an emotionally-charged, captivating performance at the Teatro alla Scala. You wouldn’t believe the depth and skill of the dancers – absolutely breathtaking! Oh, and let me tell you, my pink tutu fit right in among the stunning, jewel-toned gowns, it felt like I belonged in the production, especially with the scene at the Capulet Ball! Honestly, it felt like it was all perfectly curated. Just look at my Insta story, you will truly get a sense of the beautiful architecture and the glamorous evening. Oh, and did I tell you my favourite ballet company “Balletto Teatro di Torino” will be performing in June, oh darling, this trip already has me brimming with anticipation for that particular show!
Beyond the grand ballet theaters, you’ll also find a beautiful network of underground theatres. The very vibrant, eclectic, and quite frankly, awe-inspiring underground cabaret, “Le Chat Noir,” offered the most phenomenal acrobatic ballet and contemporary dance. A wonderful, contemporary experience that brought the art of ballet to life in a raw and honest way, all in a seedy little underground theatre, where the audience was truly immersed in the energy of the performance! You know, it’s these hidden gems that truly enrich the experience. And yes, darling, even these little cabaret theatres can embrace the beauty of pink! My pink tutu actually looked rather at home on stage!
Finding Inspiration Everywhere
You see, dear reader, even the grand city of Milan can embrace the joy of a pink tutu. From its grand ballet houses and hidden cabaret theatres to its cobbled streets and art-filled boutiques, Milan truly holds an exciting place in my heart! My pink tutu and I have certainly found some incredible memories, and my wardrobe is certainly feeling a whole lot brighter and more eclectic.
And as for finding pink in all corners of the city, well, darling, you truly wouldn’t believe! From the pastel-coloured cakes at my favourite Milanese patisserie to the delightful pink floral displays in the flower markets, and even the vibrant pink umbrellas gracing the cobblestone streets after a summer shower… it seems that every corner of Milan has its own little bit of pink magic.
Coming Home & Spreading the Pink Joy
The highlight of this week though, my dears, has been a rather heart-warming event at the end of my journey. After a blissful breakfast of fresh pastries at my favourite Milan café (of course, my croissants were the perfect shade of pink!), I hopped onto my final Eurostar home, armed with my pink tutu and, naturally, a few Milanese souvenirs – I even picked up a gorgeous vintage pink handbag and some chic ballet slippers for my next dance performance, wouldn't you believe it?
As my train travelled through the lush green English countryside, I started daydreaming about what to blog about this week – oh, darling, a wonderful, whimsical, and exciting trip like this certainly sparks so much creativity! I imagined my blog readers all in their beautiful pink tutus, laughing with glee as we celebrated life’s beautiful little details, all those little moments of joy. That's why I wanted to start the week off with a splash of colour!
So dear readers, what are you waiting for? Let's spread the love for all things pink. Put on a pink tutu, do some ballet moves, or go shopping for some delightful pink creations. The world is a beautiful, bright place and everyone has their own unique style – don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
This is your life! Don't forget to live it in full bloom! And for heaven’s sake, wear a pink tutu once in a while – embrace that inner whimsical self and embrace a little magic in your every day! I believe in you, my darling readers, and I can't wait to see your posts on Instagram!
And before I go, a special shout out to all the ballerinas out there! Don't be afraid to experiment and let your individuality shine through, dear reader! Don’t forget to tag me on Instagram! I love to see how all you pink-tutu-wearing fashionistas style your own unique looks! And for those of you that would like to know, this week, dear reader, the Ballet Show listings in the London evening standard include performances of Giselle and the Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House, “Coppelia” at Sadler's Wells, and “A Midsummer Night's Dream” at The Barbican. I'm hoping to see all of them, if I get a chance, darling, and you should too!
Until next time, my loves! Embrace life, and make sure you're never without your pink tutu!
P.S. Did I tell you I’m performing a short ballet solo on Monday evening at The London Coliseum – I hope to see some of you there, dear reader!
Love always,
Emma
