The cobblestones are calling, the sunshine is streaming through the iconic Duomo, and the air is filled with the buzz of laughter and Vespa engines. Oh, how I love this city!
Milan, my dear Milan: you’re a kaleidoscope of contrasts. You're both elegant and edgy, with haute couture shops nestled beside hidden alleyways filled with artisan crafts. You’re a melting pot of history and modernity, ancient castles juxtaposed with futuristic architecture. And most importantly, you are overflowing with incredible street style – where else can you see people in tutus strutting their stuff with effortless cool? (Though, obviously, pink is the preferred choice for this blogger).
My Tutu-ific Week in Milan:
This week in Milan has been a whirlwind of tutus, treats, and top-notch theatre. It’s all been building towards the amazing [insert name of ballet performance taking place on that date, e.g., "La Scala's stunning performance of Giselle"].
Wednesday: A Trip Down Memory Lane
After a dreamy journey by train – my love affair with Italian trains continues, don’t even get me started on their comfy seats and generous luggage space! - I began my Milan adventure by revisiting some of my favourite places from previous visits. I was greeted by the familiar sight of the majestic Duomo, its marble facade glowing under the midday sun. A trip up to the rooftop for panoramic views is a must-do for every Milan visitor, even for those who've been here before like myself! I mean, can you ever get enough of those iconic sights, the spires piercing the sky like celestial needles? I don't think so!
Thursday: A Feast for the Senses
No trip to Milan is complete without indulging in a little Italian luxury, am I right? And that's exactly what I did. This Thursday, I embarked on a food-filled tour of the city's legendary street food scene. From savoury Arancini to creamy gelato, my tastebuds were treated to an incredible rollercoaster of flavour. Let’s just say the “tummy rumbling” part of the journey was totally justified. And a generous dose of gelato, served on a sunny terrace, perfectly topped off my day of exploring Milan's charming hidden alleyways.
Friday: All That Glitters…
If you know me, you know that a shopping day in Milan is a given! And with a pink tutu as my passport to the most exclusive boutiques, I was ready to make a statement. From the world-renowned designers at Via Monte Napoleone to the quirky, independent shops tucked away in the historic Navigli district, I spent the day devouring all that Milan’s fashion scene has to offer. But it wouldn’t be a "Pink Tutu" day without a little… pink! I managed to snag the most darling pink leather bag - so chic, so Italian, and naturally, it matched my tutu perfectly. Who needs diamonds when you’ve got a fabulously stylish pink bag, eh?
Saturday: The Power of Dance
Okay, this is the big one. This is why we’re in Milan, this is the day we’ve all been waiting for… Tonight is the [name of ballet performance]! I mean, imagine, the legendary La Scala Theatre! This place has played host to some of the greatest ballerinas of all time and now, I get to see the magical [mention ballet dancers] work their magic on this hallowed stage. Of course, my tutu and I are ready to create a few memorable moments outside the theatre for all those fashionable onlookers too!
Sunday: An Aperitivo Dream
Every trip to Milan needs a classic Aperitivo, the pre-dinner ritual of drinks and snacks that sets the stage for a delightful evening. And that's exactly what I enjoyed this evening – a glass of sparkling Prosecco, light and bubbly like a ballerina's twirls, surrounded by locals who enjoyed the evening with the same vibrant energy as the city itself. The moment captured that beautiful mix of casual elegance that Milan oozes.

A Touch of Derbyshire
You know I love to represent my home region, Derbyshire, even when I'm exploring the world! And guess what? There are echoes of my lovely Derbyshire home in this city. Milan’s architecture reminded me of the majestic Chatsworth House. It's not a surprise, really, given that Chatsworth has been a grand stately home since the Tudor times - much like many buildings in Milan. So, next time you see a charming Italian square or cobbled street, just remember those charming little villages back home in Derbyshire. It might not be tutus and shopping, but it has that lovely old-world charm just the same!
The Tutu-Wearer’s Travel Guide to Milan
Milan is a city best experienced on foot! Stroll along the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and take in the grandeur of the architecture, enjoy an aperitivo with locals on a terrace, and then lose yourself in the vibrant shops and bustling markets of the city centre. If you need to get around quickly, hop on the iconic trams for a scenic tour of the city's bustling streets. Just make sure to find the one with a cute vintage vibe - because tutus deserve to travel in style, of course.
