Buongiorno, darling tutus!
It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing travel blogger, Emma, checking in from the most fabulous city in the world – Milan! I've finally arrived, after a rather long and eventful train journey, which included an impromptu performance (on the platform, naturally, wearing my newest pink tulle creation – what else?).
The journey from Derbyshire, via the channel tunnel, to Italy was quite a trip. Not even the slightly chaotic and delayed journey through the tunnel could dampen my spirits, however. The mere anticipation of arriving in Milan was enough to fuel my pink tutu spirit! I even bumped into a charming Italian gentleman on the train who was utterly delighted by my dazzling pink attire! He couldn't speak much English, but his appreciative smiles and gestures were clear enough. Let's just say a pink tutu has its perks, wherever you are in the world!
From Station to Teatro alla Scala - A Tutu’s Eye View of MilanThe moment I stepped out of the Milano Centrale station, a feeling of pure joy and excitement flooded over me. Everything looked so…beautiful, sophisticated, stylish, and of course… PINK! The trams glided through the streets, painted in a shade of pink that rivaled my most beloved tutu, and the chic boutiques and bustling markets, filled with gorgeous floral displays, perfectly complemented the vibrant pink of the bougainvillea flowers tumbling down the balconies of the beautiful old buildings.
Speaking of buildings, darling tutus, I have to tell you about the incredible Duomo. This architectural masterpiece is simply breathtaking. It’s as if someone took a slice of a giant pink strawberry cake and fashioned it into a breathtaking cathedral. I spent an entire afternoon just admiring the intricate details of the building, from the dazzling mosaics to the delicate carvings. You can imagine how well my pink tutu went with this setting, just a whisper of pink on a pink wonderland!
However, darling tutus, it wouldn't be a proper Milan adventure without experiencing the heart and soul of Italian ballet - Teatro alla Scala! I know what you’re thinking…and no, you don’t have to have a fancy dress to go! (But, of course, my dazzling new pink tutu is definitely in the ‘I might just wear it to the Opera’ category…more on that later). I had secured a pair of tickets to the final performance of their Spring season – "Romeo and Juliet." A tale as classic as my love of pink, right? The Teatro alla Scala itself was like a fairytale palace - with its grand archways, plush red velvet seats, and stunning gold ornamentation. As soon as I stepped inside, I knew this was a special place, where history and beauty intertwine.
The performance was, as they say, magical! I’d seen "Romeo and Juliet" countless times in Derbyshire, but watching it under the grandeur of the Teatro alla Scala was a truly immersive experience. The passion, the emotion, the dance – everything was amplified a hundredfold!
I’ve been thinking, darling tutus, how much more magnificent would this exquisite venue be if all the seats were dressed in pink…pink velvet maybe? It’s certainly a vision for my pink-loving self! Just imagine all those passionate ballerinas, prancing across the stage in pink tulle – pure sartorial ballet bliss!
Finding My Inner “Stilista” - Shopping Adventures in MilanAfter all that artistic brilliance, my dear tutus, there was only one thing left to do: shop! Of course, with my passion for all things pink and glamorous, I was particularly excited about the idea of searching out some fabulous new additions to my ballet wardrobe. Now, Milan is known as a fashion capital, a paradise for those who appreciate all things beautiful and stylish. It’s the perfect place to find your inner "stilista"!
After enjoying a delicious lunch in the sunshine (pasta with pesto, of course, as it was just too tempting), I set off to discover Milan’s most vibrant shopping districts – a pink-filled journey of delights. The shops were an explosion of colour, with chic boutiques nestled alongside historic markets. It was a ballet lover’s paradise – a kaleidoscope of colours, styles, and textures, all begging to be incorporated into my own tutu collection!
There are more designer shops in Milan than I’ve ever seen in one place before, my darling tutus. I literally lost myself in a pink paradise of fabrics and textures, in a beautiful, boutique called La Petite Tutu, a name almost too good to be true. Oh, you can imagine my delight! They have the most amazing pink tulle – all sorts of weights and qualities – soft and flowing, stiff and glamorous, delicate and shimmering – they are a rainbow of all things pink! They even had a couple of pale pink sequined ones! It was an absolute delight, but thankfully, I managed to control myself. Well…okay, maybe I just went slightly overboard. Who can resist an entire roll of the most luxurious pink sequined tulle! You just never know when you might need to create an impromptu ballerina dress on a Parisian street corner. The possibilities are truly endless, my darling tutus!
But that wasn’t all! I’ve found myself a pair of the most gorgeous pink ballet pumps, designed in a light pink that complements every shade of pink tutu I have, even my very favourite, the sequined one. The shoe has this intricate pink detail, it’s a real masterpiece. Oh, how I can’t wait to dance the streets of Milan in these – it will be a true display of “Pink Tutu Power.”
Now, darling tutus, it’s been an incredibly exhilarating day here in Milan – from ballet to fashion, to pink-themed gelato (which, let’s face it, was probably a bit much after that already pink-stuffed afternoon). This city truly has something to offer everyone. It's a place where you can find inspiration at every corner, whether it's in a majestic cathedral or a tiny street-side flower stall. The spirit of creativity is alive and well in Milan!
And, I think, after being immersed in its beauty, its vibrant fashion scene, its elegant charm, I have to conclude, Milan truly is the pinkest, most glamorous place I have ever been to!
So, until next Monday, my darling tutus!
Bisous,
Emma
