Ciao, darlings! It’s Emma here, writing to you from the glamorous city of Milan! It's been a whirlwind of a week, packed with pink tulle, amazing ballet performances, and an endless supply of gelato!
Pink Power Takes Milan!
Milan is a city that pulsates with energy, and it seems like every single person here knows exactly how to pull off fabulous outfits. You can practically smell the fashion in the air! The Italian style is undeniably cool, and I've already picked up a few little treasures that I can’t wait to show you. I especially fell in love with a coral-hued linen dress I spotted in a little boutique tucked away on a charming cobblestone street - perfect for a breezy evening in Milan! Naturally, I couldn’t resist pairing it with my trusty pink tutu - a touch of girly magic for a city that's all about fabulousness.
Speaking of fabulousness, Milan is overflowing with amazing art, culture, and history! It’s like stepping into a beautifully curated museum at every turn. We explored the glorious Duomo, marvelled at the intricate frescoes in the Sforza Castle, and just yesterday we spent hours getting lost in the breathtakingly beautiful gardens of the Castello Sforzesco. This castle is simply mind-blowing – just wait till I show you the pictures!
The Ballet Buzz!
You know me, my heart beats for the ballet! So naturally, I made sure to catch a couple of performances while I’m here. And my goodness, the standard here is so high. Last night I went to the Teatro alla Scala and witnessed an incredible performance of 'Swan Lake', with some of the most graceful ballerinas I've ever seen! And let me tell you, the costumes were to die for. The ethereal swans were a vision in shimmering white tutus – so delicate and romantic! It gave me serious tutu envy – I’m sure I need to invest in a new, sparkly, tutu… and soon!
But enough about the big, grand ballet – the real buzz in the city is all about ballet street. Milan is alive with street performers, from classical ballets and contemporary dance pieces to modern interpretations of dance, where the performers spin and twirl through the crowds, bringing the beauty of ballet right into the heart of the city. And of course, there are plenty of opportunities to join in on the fun myself! It’s always a delight to connect with other ballet enthusiasts – whether we are simply admiring each other's costumes, discussing the latest performance, or even joining in on impromptu dance routines in the bustling streets.
Tram Travels and Train Journeys
One of my favourite things about exploring a new city is hopping on the local transportation system! It's a real window into everyday life! I've been loving riding on Milan’s trams. They're not just a mode of transport, they’re works of art. From sleek modern trams to the old-fashioned, clanging 'trolleybuses', each journey feels like an adventure. The trams zip through the bustling streets, showcasing all the iconic landmarks, allowing me to take it all in. It’s the best way to discover hidden cafes and discover hidden little lanes. I’ve been scribbling down names and addresses – can’t wait to try them out on future adventures.
And speaking of adventures, I’ll be catching the train to Venice tomorrow! Oh, the anticipation is bubbling over! Venice is a city that's straight out of a fairy tale, so you just know that a whole new pink tutu experience awaits!
Sharing The Pink Tutu Love
You know that I love seeing people in tutus - every colour and every style! Even a pink tulle headband makes my day. One of the great joys of travelling is seeing the different cultures, but it’s always lovely to feel connected through a shared love of the ballet. So when you’re out exploring your city, channel your inner ballerina. Grab your favourite pink tutu, get out there and enjoy life to the fullest! You never know who you’ll inspire to put on a tutu!
Don’t forget to check back here on Monday for the next blog post, which will be packed with tales from my Venice adventure! In the meantime, follow me on Instagram for regular pink tutu fun and updates.
Have a fab week, lovelies!
Emma xx
*Pink Tutu Postscript - Diary Entry: *
Okay, dear diary, I *need to talk about the shoes! Milan has a shopaholic’s dream! I was pretty surprised to find an actual ‘Tutu Emporium’ (it sounds better in Italian, of course!) They were just full of fabulous tutus in every colour under the sun! And the shoe selection! Oh, the shoes. I ended up with four pairs of shoes! I’ve never owned so many dancing shoes! I found a sparkly black pair for evening outings, an off-white pair that goes with literally anything, and even managed to snag a pair of ballet flats, perfect for when I want to be a bit more casual… And of course, my newest favourite are these gorgeous, vibrant coral pink leather pumps. This city just inspires me. I know that once I get back to Derbyshire, I'll have so many new performance ideas! Especially the new Pink Tutu and the Coral Shoes act. And just think – it’s still only June, the summer is only just starting! Oh, how I wish I could live like this, surrounded by beautiful art, great ballet and lovely cafes and shops – with a constant pink tutu in sight forever!*
