Ciao bella! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing travel blogger, Emma, back from the dazzling streets of Milan! This week, I'm channeling all the Italian sunshine and chic vibes in this fashion-forward city. As usual, my trusty pink tutu has been my constant companion – let's just say it’s more than just a garment here, it’s a statement. It’s about embracing the joy of life, expressing yourself, and yes, a little bit about adding a sprinkle of magic to the world!
Milan has a certain je ne sais quoi, a charm that instantly draws you in. The bustling streets, the aroma of freshly baked pastries, and the stunning architecture - everything seems to shimmer in this city.
This week’s adventure kicked off with a trip to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan’s iconic glass-covered shopping arcade. Just picture a magnificent setting of boutiques, cafes, and a magnificent mosaic floor - pure fairytale vibes. I, of course, couldn't resist a little retail therapy in my pink tutu - and believe me, the shops in Milan are positively bursting with sartorial delights. You wouldn't believe the collection of shimmering silk tops I found – all perfect for pairing with my favourite tulle skirts!
But enough about shopping! (Though honestly, it's hard to resist in Milan!). The highlight of my Milan trip this week was attending the Scala Theatre ( Teatro alla Scala) for a mesmerising performance of "Giselle". From the opulent gold-gilded auditorium to the powerful dancers, the entire evening was a symphony of grace, drama, and pure ballet magic! I almost wished I was back in the ballet studio myself, working on my fouetté turns!
Speaking of the ballet studio, I also discovered a wonderful new place – Il Giardino delle Stelle, an enchanting little ballet studio tucked away in a peaceful courtyard. My new favourite find, the studio, hosted a captivating Ballet Street Dance class, combining elements of classical ballet and urban street dance styles. Let’s just say my inner street-ballerina definitely woke up!
Naturally, no trip to Milan is complete without a delicious meal or two! I found a wonderful trattoria tucked away on a quiet side street - it wasn’t even on my list of recommended restaurants. The aromas from the kitchen were so enchanting - I simply had to try it! I chose their famous mushroom ravioli - oh, my goodness - it was heavenly!
My journey wouldn’t be complete without a trip on Milan’s beautiful tram system! It's a great way to explore the city. You know I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos – pink tutu, tram window view – it’s definitely going on my Instagram this week!
Of course, there’s so much more to Milan than I can fit into one blog post, and this isn’t just any old post. It’s Post #1688 - which, for the record, is pretty special!
I’ve already started dreaming of my next adventure, perhaps a little weekend trip to Venice… (Did someone say gondolas? My pink tutu might be getting a little Venetian-inspired makeover!)
But for now, I’m bidding farewell to this beautiful city. I’ll be leaving Milan with a heart full of inspiration, a wardrobe bursting with new clothes, and (of course!) a pink tutu, ready to bring its own brand of sunshine wherever it goes!
Until next week,
Stay sparkling! ??

A Day in the Life of Emma in Milan ?
*(Tuesday, October 13th, 2027) *
It's 8:00 am in Milan, and the first rays of sunshine are creeping through my hotel window. I'm up early today - not just to soak in the city's beauty but to prepare for my afternoon dance class at Il Giardino delle Stelle. This is the day I’ve been looking forward to - combining my passion for ballet with a street-style spin!
But before heading to the studio, it's time for a bit of “Pink Tutu Planning!” This means selecting the perfect pink tutu for today's adventure, one that has that perfect blend of delicate lace and sassy street vibes. It's a daily ritual – picking a tutu to fit the occasion. I have a system - an elaborate, colour-coded (with pink, obviously) chart where I've sorted my tutus based on fabric, mood, and, most importantly, the event!
Today, it’s all about the light, pink tutu with shimmering embroidery that caught my eye during my trip to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II the other day. The shop was packed with all the trendiest Parisian fashion, but my eye was immediately drawn to the tutu’s playful embroidery - delicate ballet shoes in pink, with a tiny sequined star! You have to understand, there’s an inherent poetry in how tutus embody both ethereal grace and playful creativity!
And after my early-morning tutu selection process, a quick cup of cappuccino (Milan’s coffee is heavenly, even without a spoonful of sugar!) and I'm ready for the day’s adventures!
This afternoon, I'm venturing into the heart of Milan, weaving through narrow cobblestone streets. The city is starting to buzz, the shopkeepers are preparing their stalls, and everyone is in that morning hurry. I just have to remind myself to slow down, enjoy the Italian pace, and absorb the ambiance of this wonderful city!
As the sun starts to peek out between buildings, I finally arrive at Il Giardino delle Stelle studio - my heart beats with a bit of excitement, ready to dance! I’m one of the first students to arrive at the studio, already the scent of fresh, clean ballet shoes fills the air. I love how everyone's relaxed here - they've put on their dance shoes but are still chatty, with big smiles on their faces! The teacher arrives with a contagious smile and a twinkle in her eye! I’m instantly captivated by the studio's laid-back, friendly atmosphere.
The warm-up session kicks off, a rhythmic blend of stretching, pliés, and hip-swaying movements - I’m immediately drawn in! As we get into the dance routine, the instructor combines elements of classical ballet techniques - graceful arm movements, precise footwork – and brings in the “street vibe" - think quick, hip-hop inspired footwork and fluid arm motions.
As I practice, I start to understand the charm of this fusion style: It’s all about finding a perfect balance - strength, flexibility, and a touch of attitude! The instructors' instruction is gentle yet direct - and even though I feel my inner beginner struggling sometimes, I'm pushing my limits and pushing my confidence too! It's not just about technique, it’s also about that magical connection between grace and rebellion - I love the combination of elegant movements and expressive energy!
I can't help but feel inspired! After a session like this, it's time for some creative recharging. This is Milan, so it's only natural to head out for a delicious dinner - an Italian culinary masterpiece! I find a cozy spot on a cobblestoned street and choose a traditional pasta dish, perfectly paired with a light, bubbly prosecco!
Of course, no meal in Italy is complete without a lovely conversation and an experience to remember! The family running the trattoria are incredibly friendly. We chat over my meal, and it seems they have stories about their families, dreams, and adventures in their charming city! It’s as much a social encounter as a dining experience – and honestly, that's what makes this journey so captivating!
By evening, I'm strolling through Milan's Piazza Duomo - its grandeur takes my breath away.
The evening brings a lovely change in atmosphere as I wander around, admiring the sights of this vibrant city! As the lights come on, Milan transforms, radiating an entirely new level of enchantment - everything just sparkles, from the street lamps illuminating the avenues to the glamorous storefronts! I take in the sounds, smells, and sights – it's all so romantic!
It’s time for some late-night relaxation as the city winds down, but before calling it a night, I have one final mission. Tonight, I’m seeking out some authentic gelato – it’s the Italian tradition!
I’ve heard it’s almost sacrilegious to have gelato after 11 pm, but hey – who am I to disagree with the local flavour? I finally find a gelateria that’s still open on a quiet little lane near the heart of Milan - the owner, a friendly man with a white apron, lets me taste the different flavours (it was truly a blessing to be given such a wonderful choice!)! I settle for a delicious strawberry and pistachio combination.
Tonight, the taste of fresh, sweet strawberry and the flavourful nutty pistachio - those moments perfectly represent the sweet delights of this vibrant, delicious Italian journey!
And it all feels like a little fairytale… because, for tonight, I’m just Emma, the girl from Derbyshire, who is in love with tutus, ballet, and Milan - and those moments make for the sweetest stories!
I wake to the sounds of Milan buzzing to life as the morning sunlight peeks through my window, reminding me that today’s new adventures await me! But I already know, this vibrant, stylish city has captured my heart, just like that pink tutu which continues to brighten every journey!
