Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1695 - A Week of Sparkle & Dreams in the City of Fashion

Ciao bella!

It’s your favourite Derbyshire darling, Emma, writing to you from the heart of Italy, the dazzling city of Milan! As I sit sipping my latte (yes, I’ve finally mastered the art of ordering a good one!) in the corner of a delightful little café, my eyes are glued to the hustle and bustle of the cobbled streets, taking in the magic of Milan.

It's been a week of pink-hued wonders, whirlwind performances, and enough style inspiration to fill a hundred tutus. The vibrant streets, the cobbled alleys, the smell of freshly baked bread and espresso, and the feeling of being in the heart of the Italian fashion world, it's all intoxicatingly amazing!

And this week, Milan truly outdid itself! My dear Diary, buckle up!

Monday: The Glam of La Scala

My week began on a grand note. Imagine this, your girl, twirling through the hallowed halls of Teatro alla Scala – the legendary opera house of Milan! My heart skipped a beat, my tutu twirled with a hint of Italian swagger, and I swear, the chandeliers in the lobby gave me a knowing wink! I had scored a front-row seat to witness the mesmerising beauty of The Sleeping Beauty, a ballet masterpiece brought to life with grace and passion.

I couldn't help but dream of waltzing alongside the beautiful dancers as their costumes shimmered under the warm theatre lights. They were, of course, wearing stunning, exquisite costumes. Sadly, no pink tutus this time (gasp!) but let's face it, a princess needs to be in a stunning princess dress! I was in my pinkest pink tutu, just a little something to let those elegant ladies know we have pink tutus in Derbyshire too.

The experience was truly breathtaking, and I spent the whole performance completely enchanted. The music, the storytelling, the dance, the entire atmosphere... it was truly something special! The performance left me with an immense desire to embrace the beauty of classic ballet – perhaps I should brush up on my pliés?

Tuesday: A Fashionable Tram Ride

My days in Milan often involve exploring on the tram. This city has an incredible network, it's an elegant way to move around. My favourite tram line is number 2. A leisurely tram ride across the city is the perfect way to people-watch. And it's also the perfect place for spotting fashionable individuals!

From elegant Milanese ladies dressed in tailored pantsuits with stylish coats to trendy students in colourful bomber jackets and ripped jeans, every tram ride is a fashion show. Today was no exception!

And then, the inspiration struck! It was so bold! My imagination went into overdrive, I couldn't stop thinking about all the fabulous ballet street dance routines that would perfectly capture Milanese chic. It wouldn’t take much; add some pink, and my next show could be a masterpiece!

Wednesday: The Buzz of Corso Buenos Aires

After my tram adventure, I headed to the bustling Corso Buenos Aires – one of the main shopping streets. My heart skipped a beat! The window displays were so magnificent; colourful, bright, inviting. It was pure retail therapy heaven.

With the excitement of the latest collection and my passion for finding a pink tutu (I am on a constant mission for the perfect one!), I wandered from one shop to the next. You know how I like my shopping, my loves, always on a budget, never a spendthrift! So, after a day of careful observation and consideration, I managed to snag a sparkly little number that I’m convinced will look simply magical with a new pair of bright pink stilettos. I can't wait to unveil it for you on the website, I’ve already snapped some fab shots, and they’re ready to be edited for your enjoyment.

And let's be honest, sometimes you just need to splurge on a new pink tutu! After all, a good tutu is a timeless treasure. A wardrobe essential, in my book!

Thursday: The Charm of Naviglio Grande

I hopped onto a different tram and found myself in the quaint Naviglio Grande. This neighbourhood is truly charming! Imagine, canals lined with cobbled walkways, quaint cafes, and charming bridges, a perfect setting for a romantic stroll, and the best part is, the scent of flowers fills the air!

You wouldn’t know from these idyllic views that the Naviglio Grande is actually an ancient canal, built by Leonardo da Vinci. The historical richness here is everywhere. This neighbourhood is the perfect place for daydreaming and reminiscing! And while I’m not one to shy away from a bit of history, today my daydreams were filled with twirls and a splash of colour, all the colours of the pink tutus I was dreaming up.

As I strolled along the canal, my mind was racing with ideas for my next pink tutu masterpiece, so I spent the rest of the day sketching out my newest creations in my pink leather bound journal. A notebook full of designs. Oh, I love a good sketchbook!

Friday: Backstage at Teatro Dal Verme

Tonight was the big one! The event that sent my heart into a tutu-induced twirl. I had tickets to a ballet performance at Teatro Dal Verme, a beautiful 19th-century opera house. The performance I was seeing, La Sylphide, promised to be exquisite, and you guessed it, I was not disappointed! And, let’s be honest, after La Scala, any theatre is an amazing experience.

My friend Laura, an amazing Italian dancer who’s actually on stage at the moment (swooning!), gave me a chance to explore backstage! Oh my, the costumes were fabulous, a true display of artistry and grace. Every single costume was a piece of art – delicate lace, vibrant embroidery, luxurious fabrics. I saw tutus that glittered and shone with every twirl and shimmered in the soft light backstage, the sight was dazzling. It’s no wonder I love ballet! It's so much more than dance, it’s an explosion of colour, movement, and pure artistry.

But don't you worry, I wasn’t just admiring, I was getting inspired, naturally! I snapped a few photos for a behind-the-scenes glimpse for you, but shhh, it's a secret! And it has just given me more inspiration to design more of my amazing pink tutus.

Saturday: Aperitivo with Flair

Tonight, my darling loves, I was indulging in Milan’s famous aperitivo culture. If you haven't had a drink before you dine, then you haven’t truly lived! I decided to indulge in the ritual at a charming spot on a terrace with the most divine views!

What’s even more divine are the amazing cocktails on offer in Milan! Imagine, fruity and refreshing, sweet and spicy, they’re simply irresistible!

My friend, Marco (you know him, he has amazing taste), who’s been working on a show that will hopefully be touring to the UK next year (fingers crossed), joined me for some bubbly conversations over our aperitivos. We spoke about his show, all about a pink tutu that is set to cause a stir, and how pink can change everything, you should have seen his expression. He looked like he might start dancing! We then indulged in the usual chatter, fashion and travel. Of course, there’s nothing better than two fabulous people, a pink tutu conversation, and an Italian sunset over the city of Milan. The moment was magical!

Sunday: The Tranquil Park

A day of quiet contemplation is needed to refresh and recharge the spirit. This week, my loves, I needed a moment of tranquility before my next trip. So I made my way to Parco Sempione, a large park, to embrace nature’s beauty. I have to say, my, it really did feel good to breathe in some fresh air and gaze at the rolling green landscape.

My love for nature knows no bounds. But today it was even more special, because I knew I was about to start a new chapter of Pink Tutu Milan! So, the beautiful serenity of this park inspired me to put pen to paper to begin sketching my next blog post. This city is simply full of endless possibilities! It's amazing what a few minutes in nature can do for a pink tutu, eh!

So, there you have it! A week of ballet bliss, stylish shopping adventures, and Italian magic! Milan truly stole my heart with its glamour and charm. Now, it’s back to the UK for a few shows. Next Monday, you can all enjoy a new blog about Derbyshire, so don't forget to tune in! And in the meantime, get your dancing shoes on, because my dear lovelies, I’m hoping to see you rocking a pink tutu very soon!

Until next Monday, my darlings!
