Ciao, darlings! It’s Emma here, back from the bustling streets of Milano with my latest adventures in pink tulle and tutus! This week’s Milan blog takes us on a whirlwind tour of culture, fashion, and – of course – ballet!
You know me – always searching for the perfect tutu, the most captivating show, the chicest Italian café, and the most delightful journey by tram! It’s all part of the Pink Tutu life, and in Milan, it’s simply a joy to experience it all.
As I stepped off the sleek Italian train and onto the cobblestones of Milan, I was immediately struck by the vibrant energy. The sun, sparkling through the crisp February air, made even the grays of the cityscape gleam, and the air crackled with excitement, a true sign of a fashion capital.
Milan has long been a city known for its chic and sophisticated style, and that air is absolutely contagious! Whether you’re strolling past a designer shop or grabbing a coffee at a buzzing piazza, you can’t escape the stylish energy that oozes from every corner of this magnificent metropolis.
Speaking of my favourite corner, that would have to be the Piazza Duomo! What a showstopper! The soaring Duomo, a breathtaking work of architecture that leaves you breathless. Every time I visit, I simply marvel at its intricate detail. You know I had to capture a shot with the Duomo as my backdrop – with, of course, my signature pink tutu. My outfit today was the ultimate in feminine grace – a ballet-inspired, swirling pink tulle skirt, paired with a delicate blush-coloured blouse and a pair of pearl earrings. It was my tribute to the delicate ballet movements I’d be indulging in later in the evening.
Now, before we talk about the delightful ballet, let’s indulge my other favourite pastime – SHOPPING! Milano’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, that magnificent glass-domed shopping arcade, is every shopaholic’s paradise. There’s something incredibly magical about walking through this stunning structure. I took a turn in my sparkly pink flats and my skirt swirled with every graceful step – yes, a little pirouette was required! I confess, I found myself staring wistfully at the gorgeous Italian craftsmanship. Those handcrafted leather handbags! Those meticulously tailored suits!
Luckily, my own fashion finds are generally far more affordable. That's how my blog’s managed to fund all these delightful Italian adventures! Every tutu I wear, every ballet performance I give, gets me closer to another enchanting escapade. And believe me, these adventures, they really inspire the dance.
And speaking of inspiration… that night, my dance world unfolded at the Teatro alla Scala! That grand, iconic theatre, oh my… I felt a little shiver of excitement as I crossed the threshold, the air thick with anticipation, the hum of a thousand stories whispered through the elegant marble hallways. It's truly magical!
I have a soft spot for the Bolshoi in Moscow, Covent Garden in London, and the Opera Garnier in Paris, but there’s a timeless, refined beauty about La Scala that is simply unique. Tonight’s ballet, a contemporary masterpiece about a group of young ballerinas vying for their place in a renowned company, hit home! Those incredible costumes, the powerful dance – every movement told a story, evoking joy, despair, and triumphant struggle. I found myself whisked away into the drama and the captivating movement – a true joy for any ballet devotee. I was mesmerised!
It was then that I had a brilliant idea – a flash of inspiration! My blog must include a dance series, dedicated to my dear readers – ballet moves inspired by some of the most incredible locations I visit. And Milan, oh Milano, what a perfect backdrop for a special move.
Here’s a preview:
“The Milan Waltz”The Inspiration: The grace and grandeur of the Teatro alla Scala combined with the elegant charm of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This move will require elegance, precision, and just a touch of Italian panache!
The Step:
The Grand Jeté: You'll start with a graceful jump, stretching your legs wide as you leap forward, like you're embracing the expanse of Milan's skyline! Imagine the Duomo on one side, and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II on the other!
The Balancé: Land gently, gracefully swaying from side to side, as you would on a promenade under the crystal-clear, sun-drenched roof of the Galleria. Remember the intricate mosaics beneath your feet.
The Pirouette: Now it's time to spin! With a graceful whirl, mimicking the elegant curves and grand scale of La Scala's architecture. Imagine the gilded chandeliers shimmering above as you turn!
Pro Tip: A splash of blush on your cheeks will elevate this dance to another level of Milanese chic!
Oh, I cannot wait to showcase this new routine on my blog and social media channels! And to my lovely Pink Tutu followers – if you try it, send me photos and videos – I love to see you embracing your inner ballerina.
Now, for the final part of this blog, let’s rewind our steps a little bit.
My favourite place to grab a bite and soak in the city’s atmosphere? A charming, local trattoria tucked away from the busy avenues! It's just around the corner from the Teatro alla Scala. I like the warm, comforting Italian flavours – the aroma of freshly baked bread mingling with the simmering tomato sauce, creating that quintessential Italian warmth. They call this feeling La Dolce Vita – the sweet life. That’s what Milan offers, truly!
After my trattoria treat, the final part of my evening included a ride through Milan on one of the iconic, yellow trams – always a charming experience! The evening light bathed the city in a golden glow. As the tram rumbled past elegant buildings, ornate churches, and buzzing piazzas, I let myself be swept away by the timeless magic of this enchanting city. I caught the glow of La Scala reflecting on the polished windows, and that is my memory of this Milan week, shining brightly, just like that pink tutu I love to wear.
