Buongiorno bella!
I’m in Milan! Can you believe it? Honestly, this is a dream come true. As a ballet-obsessed, pink tutu-loving gal from Derbyshire, Milan has always held a special place in my heart. From the legendary La Scala to the street performances I’ve seen in my travels, there’s something utterly magical about the city’s connection to the art of dance.
This week, I'm embracing every bit of Milan's energy and magic. The sun is shining, the air is filled with the aroma of freshly brewed espresso and the city itself feels like a vibrant, swirling tutu, full of colour and excitement. And speaking of tutus, let’s talk about my wardrobe!
(Spoiler alert: I'm packing a pink tutu, naturally! ).
It's an absolutely beautiful shade of bubblegum pink, perfect for dancing amongst the charming streets and piazzas.
(Remember: I believe that every woman can rock a pink tutu, no matter your age or body type! You just gotta embrace the feeling of being a ballerina, no matter what you're wearing. This, my lovelies, is the real #PinkTutuLife!).
I've been toying with the idea of taking some ballet-inspired street style photos in this beautiful city, perhaps amongst the elegant archways and the romantic gardens. We'll see what the Milanese street style gurus have to say about that. ?
Back to my adventure…
It’s a bright and sunny morning in Milan, and I'm just back from an exhilarating ride on the tram. I love the way the sun catches the glass and makes the entire city sparkle. This morning, I decided to grab a quick croissant and coffee from a charming little café nestled amongst the historical buildings near the Duomo. And if I’m honest, it's hard to believe I'm in Italy! The air is full of life and laughter, and there's a sense of carefree joy everywhere I look. I'm definitely going to spend more time just exploring the backstreets and getting lost in the beauty of this captivating city.
Today, after breakfast and some browsing in vintage shops, I’m planning a visit to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, that breathtaking, glass-covered shopping arcade that seems like something straight out of a fairytale. It’s famous for its luxury boutiques and stylish people – the perfect place for a little window shopping. I’ve also got my eye on some amazing Italian designer dresses I saw in the shop windows, I can’t wait to take a closer look!
Afterward, I’m off to catch the renowned Giselle ballet performance at the La Scala theatre. This legendary performance has been on my bucket list for ages and I’m buzzing with excitement. I’m so curious to experience this iconic opera house. I've heard the acoustics are stunning, the architecture breathtaking, and the performers are some of the most talented in the world. And of course, I'll be sure to write about my experience next week in my blog, with my Pink Tutu touch, naturally!
Later this evening, I’m planning to see a fascinating performance by the ‘Clowning in the Square’ ballet group near Piazza della Repubblica, the beautiful square where my Airbnb is located. Their shows are completely unique. They weave the world of ballet with street theatre. They’ve become such a huge part of Milanese culture and I love watching them. The street performances are always a delight!
Of course, my adventure in Milan wouldn’t be complete without the best gelato in the world. And for dinner, I'm planning to find a fabulous trattoria for some of the most delicious pasta and local delicacies Italy has to offer. Pasta is so important for all ballet dancers. We’re fueled by carbs, baby!
As I prepare to embark on this wonderful journey through the heart of Italy, I feel truly grateful to be experiencing all this, and of course, I am also incredibly proud of my journey as a professional ballet dancer and of the dedication I’ve poured into making all this happen! It’s a life fueled by passion, and being here, in this magical city, feels like I'm exactly where I'm meant to be.
Speaking of passion, one of my biggest hopes is to inspire every reader of PinkTutu.com to embrace their passions and explore the world through their unique lens. Maybe that means rocking a pink tutu, embracing your inner ballerina, or simply discovering the beauty of Milan. Whatever it is, go for it! I promise you, you won’t regret it.
And now, a little fun: Tell me, darlings, if you were in Milan, what would you do? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments section!
Now, off to embrace the wonders of this breathtaking city!
Ciao!

For dance enthusiasts, Milan offers a plethora of opportunities, from world-renowned opera houses like La Scala, to smaller, intimate venues showcasing emerging artists. There are so many other exciting places to explore, like the Duomo (Milan's cathedral, a true architectural marvel, and a popular attraction.
