Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in the glorious city of Milan! I'm still buzzing from the magic of Italian ballet and the sheer abundance of fabulous fashion I've been surrounded by. Let's dive in!
Milan Calling
This week was a real treat! You know me, I just can't resist a call to adventure, especially when it involves a combination of pink tutus, beautiful ballet, and charming, cobblestone streets. I travelled in my trusty, fluffy, pink tutu, of course - a statement piece if ever there was one! I took a leisurely journey from my home in Derbyshire via train to Milan - it's a glorious ride that never fails to put me in the mood for exploring.
A Glimpse of Milanese Charm
I first visited the city last year, and its elegant architecture and lively spirit have captivated me ever since. This time, my first stop was for a delicious cafe cappuccino and brioche – my usual way of immersing myself in a new city! I love finding little cafes with the cutest pastries and watching the world go by. I'm quite the people watcher, after all!
A Day of Ballet Bliss
Wednesday was ballet day - oh, what joy! I was so lucky to snag tickets for a performance at the Teatro alla Scala. I'm utterly smitten with Italian ballet. It's so incredibly passionate and romantic – a beautiful blend of classical grace and dramatic storytelling. This particular performance was a modern adaptation of a classical ballet - Swan Lake with a contemporary twist! I must confess I was glued to the stage from the moment the curtain rose, swooning over the breathtaking choreography and the dazzling costumes.
A Ballet Adventure
Of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without a visit to the Teatro alla Scala Museum. It was incredible! From centuries-old costumes and meticulously-crafted sets to letters written by some of the world's most renowned ballet dancers, the museum truly brought the history of Italian ballet to life.
The Pink Tutu on the Streets of Milan
One thing I particularly enjoy about my travels is the way people react to my signature pink tutu. They smile, wave, and often take photos with me. It really spreads joy wherever I go! My bright, bubbly personality helps too, of course, but I firmly believe that tutus have an inherent power to uplift spirits and inspire a sense of fun. And when they’re pink, well, they’re simply unstoppable!
Shopping and Style
A trip to Milan wouldn’t be complete without indulging in its incredible fashion scene. I spent an afternoon exploring the shops of the Quadrilatero d’Oro, where I was absolutely spoiled for choice! There were exquisite designer shoes that could easily give a Cinderella a run for her money, gorgeous vintage finds that felt straight out of a vintage Vogue magazine, and everything in between. I must confess, I did succumb to a pair of emerald green leather gloves - just a little something to brighten my day!
From Ballet Classes to Beautiful Buildings
But it wasn’t all about the luxury shops. I also found time to take a ballet class at one of Milan’s oldest dance studios. It was so much fun, even if my translation app wasn't quite up to understanding the intricate directions! But I managed to follow along for the most part. And the most important part, I managed to slip in a few steps of Swan Lake during the exercises, just to get everyone in the mood!
Finding Peace in the Tram
Milan is such an energetic city! But after a day of exploring the bustling streets and marveling at the architectural wonders of the Duomo, there’s nothing quite like settling into a tram for the journey back to my hotel. The gentle rocking of the tram, the rhythmic clanking of the wheels on the tracks - it helps me recollect my thoughts and savor all the sights and sounds of the day. There’s something incredibly serene about the city’s public transport.
A Little Pink tutu magic...
A highlight of my week was getting to perform a street ballet performance! I grabbed my Pink Tutu, found a quiet corner of the Duomo square and began to dance! Passersby stopped, mesmerized by my dance steps. I felt like I was bringing a bit of magic to their day. I hope they all remembered how amazing ballet can be!
Delicious Delights of Milan
Another highlight, and possibly the most essential part of my travels, was all the fabulous food. Milan is famous for its traditional dishes and its sophisticated, trendy cuisine! I tried all the culinary delights I could manage, from risotto to pizza, all washed down with the perfect glass of Italian wine. Oh, and the ice cream - don’t get me started!
Back to My Pink Tutu World...
As I head back to my lovely little world of Derbyshire, I can’t help but feel a touch of melancholy at saying goodbye to the enchanting energy of Milan. But I leave with my heart full of magical memories. This city, with its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene, has once again won my heart! And who knows, maybe I'll be back sooner than you think!
Until next week, my lovelies! I'm going to be practicing all my Milanese ballet moves in my pink tutu - ready for the next adventure!
Emma xoxo
