Ciao, darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the Eternal City! That's right, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina has finally touched down in Rome. And you know what? It's already exceeded my wildest dreams, a magical, dazzling, romantic whirlwind of pasta, cobblestones, and yes, even a bit of pink tulle (naturally!).
Let's rewind a bit, shall we? This week, as you know, is all about Rome. I've always adored its history, its architectural marvels, its timeless beauty – not to mention the legendary gelato, sigh! But most of all, I dreamt of twirling across the city's famous piazzas, feeling like a princess in a fairytale. (That's where the tutu comes in, of course!)
So, how did I get here, you ask? Well, after performing a whirlwind ballet tour across Yorkshire last month, I treated myself to a lovely first-class train journey from Derbyshire – talk about a dream come true! I don't mind telling you, I do love travelling by train. It allows me to truly soak up the journey and all its beauty, all while indulging in a delicious (and pink, naturally!) Afternoon Tea. And oh my, what an experience that was. Just the sound of the wheels clicking on the tracks puts me in a truly whimsical state of mind – a perfect start to any adventure.
Arriving in Rome was an experience all of its own. A mix of fragrant pizza, lively chatter in Italian, and of course, the sheer, breathtaking beauty of this ancient city. You know, I feel a bit like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday! Well, maybe with a slightly pinker wardrobe.
I checked into a quaint little hotel just a stone's throw from the Pantheon - such a fantastic location! My room is delightfully charming, with a lovely balcony where I can watch the world go by while sipping on an Aperol Spritz. Don't tell anyone, but I brought my pink tutu just for the occasion – think Audrey Hepburn with a splash of pink! (You can see me practicing my twirls on Instagram, folks!).
So, what have I been up to? Let me tell you!
Day 1: Pasta, Colosseum, and a Touch of TulleYesterday, after settling in, I took a leisurely stroll through the heart of Rome, immersing myself in the city's ancient wonders. I absolutely loved visiting the Pantheon – its massive dome is incredible. I imagined all the stories it held, and couldn’t resist capturing the grandeur of this architectural masterpiece with my camera.
Afterwards, I couldn’t resist some delicious Roman pasta, of course! The pasta was simply divine – al dente with rich flavours. I sat there on the cobblestones, happily munching, watching the world go by, and absorbing the charm of it all. You know what I love about Italy? It feels like a country designed to celebrate life – delicious food, laughter, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by art and beauty.
Of course, I couldn’t miss a visit to the Colosseum. It's truly awe-inspiring! Walking into that ancient arena, it felt like I'd been transported back in time, and I was instantly drawn to its grand scale and magnificent architecture. My heart raced a little when I thought of the gladiators who once fought here – now THAT’s a history lesson you’ll never forget! And it also gave me a fabulous backdrop for my impromptu photoshoot – it’s amazing how a pink tutu just brightens up any historical landmark, right? Style Tip: To truly feel the Rome vibes, embrace the simple charm of loose white linens, flowing skirts, and statement earrings. (I paired my look with a pair of fabulous, sparkly ballet flats for a touch of that ballet glamour – wouldn't you agree? You know me, gotta bring the tutu magic wherever I go! )
Day 2: Ballet Bliss and the Trevi FountainToday, I awoke to the sounds of laughter and bustling activity – such a lovely way to start the day. Before venturing out, I couldn’t resist the joy of twirling for a bit – a mini ballet class right in my hotel room, of course! There's no feeling quite like dancing, it truly sets the soul alight!
Later, I went to one of Rome’s most iconic locations – the Trevi Fountain! It is, as you might guess, simply breathtaking. It’s magical and inspiring to see this monumental marvel in person! Imagine, countless people through the centuries have admired this fountain, and just stood and dreamed for a moment, much like I did today! Of course, I couldn’t help but throw in a coin, hoping for a return to Rome, sooner rather than later, wouldn’t you agree? And who knows, maybe it will inspire my next ballet performance, too!
Roman Evening Magic: Food, Fashion, and Fantastical FlairIn the evening, I discovered a delightful little restaurant that specializes in traditional Roman cuisine. After a delicious dinner of succulent grilled chicken and steaming pasta, I strolled around the Trastevere district, feeling very Italian chic with a touch of pink tutu, of course! The neighbourhood is a maze of charming cobblestone streets, brimming with cute shops, inviting cafes, and buzzing nightlife – what’s not to love?
My evening was topped off with a captivating show at the Teatro Argentina - truly unforgettable. I loved experiencing this classic Italian theatre - the energy, the emotion, the music, the passion! It was almost as though I’d stepped into another world!
Fashion Tip: Roman evenings are all about sophistication. Think luxurious fabrics, bold colours, and an effortless air. For my evening out, I opted for a stylish black lace dress with a bright pink scarf and a dash of pink glitter on my eye - a touch of glamour that, I hope you'll agree, reflects the romantic spirit of the city! Looking Ahead to Pink Tutu Rome:This has been just a tiny peek into my adventures here in Rome – stay tuned! There is so much more to discover: I’m planning to visit the Vatican, indulge in gelato, soak in the beautiful Spanish Steps (perfect for some impromptu ballet-inspired poses, if you ask me!), and perhaps even discover some new Roman boutiques to buy a new addition or two for my tutu wardrobe – oh the possibilities!
