Ciao, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite tutu-wearing travel enthusiast, and I'm bursting with excitement to share my adventures in the Eternal City, Rome!
As you all know, this is my favourite time of year: autumn leaves are falling, the air is crisp and inviting, and the city comes alive with cultural events. I've even managed to pack my favourite pink tweed coat, and the Romans seem to be totally digging the "British chic meets tutu" vibe, so I'm feeling super confident.
A Train Ride to the Heart of History
This week, I decided to treat myself to a train journey, darling! I know, it seems a bit odd coming all the way from Derbyshire for a train journey, but there's something so wonderfully romantic about hurtling through Europe, feeling the wind in my hair, and seeing the countryside roll past. And let's be honest, there's something pretty majestic about rocking a tutu in first class. ๐
Speaking of romance, the first stop was the Colosseum, of course! Standing in the shadows of this colossal arena, you can practically feel the gladiatorial battles and chariot races swirling around you. The sheer scale of it left me speechless, which is no mean feat! I even did a little ballet twirl, picturing myself a graceful warrior battling the Roman hordes - though I may have caused a small crowd of bewildered tourists, haha!
Shopping Like a True Roman
After my gladiatorial adventures, I treated myself to a bit of retail therapy at Via Condotti, one of Rome's most luxurious shopping streets. It's lined with designer boutiques, and I spotted a particularly delightful pink Chanel jacket. Oh, darling, you could have knocked me over with a feather! Sadly, my purse couldn't quite handle its price tag, but a girl can dream! Instead, I indulged in a pair of adorable cherry-red sandals with sparkly embellishments, perfect for pairing with my signature pink tutus.
The Ballet Bonanza: A Celebration of Dance
Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a dose of culture. This week, I was lucky enough to catch a breathtaking performance of the Romeo and Juliet ballet at the Teatro dell'Opera. It was an absolute triumph! I have to admit, I shed a few tears during the dramatic finale โ and who am I kidding? I totally cried throughout! My favourite part was seeing the intricate costumes in such a stunning theatre. It reminded me of a classic, beautifully staged ballets from the old days!
Dining with the Stars
And darling, I've just got to mention my meal at La Terrazza. This iconic restaurant, perched atop the Hotel Eden, boasts the most breathtaking views of Rome's rooftops and the glorious Basilica di San Pietro. I opted for the seasonal tasting menu and was amazed by the artistry and flavour of each dish. Plus, I couldn't resist a slice of their exquisite pink raspberry cake โ a fitting end to a perfect evening.
Sharing My Pink Tutu Love
Rome is absolutely buzzing with life, from the ancient Roman ruins to the modern-day boutiques, from the theatrical world to the culinary delights. But what truly captured my heart was the passion and vibrant spirit that pulses through every corner.
This city has an irresistible allure, and it's inspiring me to embrace a little bit more of that joie de vivre myself. Perhaps I should consider adding a little "Italian flair" to my outfits, what do you think? I'm picturing a scarlet dress with a splash of fuchsia pink tulle and, of course, a signature pink tutu! Stay tuned for my sartorial creations!
