Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-wearing travel blogger, Emma, back with another instalment from the beautiful, bustling city of Rome.
This week, my pink tutu and I have been absolutely swirling around this magnificent metropolis! It’s truly been a magical whirlwind of history, art, fashion, and - of course - ballet!
Riding the Rails in Style:
I kicked off the week with a fabulously scenic train ride from Derbyshire, England. There's something so enchanting about travelling by train, you know? You can look out of the window at the world rushing by, and feel a sense of wonder and excitement building up as you get closer and closer to your destination. I always bring along my pink tutu travel bag, it’s perfect for my tutu, my ballet shoes, and my latest magazine haul from WH Smiths. (I found the cutest little travel-sized hand cream at the station, and I had to get one, just in case).
First Impressions: Rome's Majestic Glamour
Upon arriving at the Termini station in Rome, I was immediately captivated by the city’s sheer magnificence. From the grandiose buildings to the bustling piazzas, there's a sense of grand scale and timeless elegance to this place that makes it so thrilling to explore. My hotel, a chic boutique spot nestled in a quiet corner of the city, became my base for a week of exciting discoveries.
The Pantheon: A Symphony of Grace
On Monday, I headed straight for the Pantheon, that architectural marvel that’s been standing tall for almost 2000 years! The vast open dome and the soft, filtered sunlight that bathes the space make it seem almost ethereal, a cathedral to history and beauty. It’s one of those places that takes your breath away.
Street Performers and Pastel Pink
As I emerged from the Pantheon, I was mesmerized by the sheer variety of street performers – acrobats, musicians, even a delightful group of ballerinas dressed in pale pink tutus! (You could almost say they were wearing pink tutus in homage to this humble blogger!) It’s fantastic to see the streets of Rome coming alive with such vibrant performances – it truly feels like the city’s soul is on full display.
The Colosseum: An Epic Stage of History
On Tuesday, the Colosseum beckoned. It’s hard to believe that such an enormous structure can hold so much history. Walking through the corridors, I imagined the gladiatorial battles that once raged here. It was humbling to stand in a place so steeped in the past. It felt as though I could almost feel the echoes of ancient Rome reverberating in the stone.
Roman Shopping: Fashion Delights in the Eternal City
You know me, darlings! When it comes to travelling, a little bit of retail therapy is essential! Rome offers a smorgasbord of fabulous shops, from high-end boutiques to quaint, family-run stores overflowing with treasures. I spent the afternoon wandering around the Via Condotti, the city’s most famous luxury shopping street, picking up some exquisite vintage silk scarves and a pair of beautiful pink pumps to add to my collection. After that, I took a dip into the maze of hidden alleys near Piazza Navona, finding some quirky local boutiques selling everything from handcrafted jewelry to colourful, hand-painted ceramics – a perfect reminder of my Roman adventure!
The Magic of Teatro dell'Opera di Roma
The highlight of the week, however, was the breathtaking ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. As I made my way through the theatre’s opulent interior, I felt like I’d stepped into a dream. It’s truly an enchanting experience - the grandeur of the building, the talented dancers, and the exquisite music all combine to create a truly immersive experience. I absolutely fell in love with the performance of "Swan Lake." It was absolutely spellbinding - the passion and technical brilliance of the dancers left me speechless. It's no surprise that Rome boasts a rich ballet history; it's a city that truly appreciates the art form.
Pink Tutu Vibes: Spreading the Love in Rome
I couldn't resist sharing my pink tutu love with the Roman people, of course! I even had a chance to participate in a public ballet class in Piazza del Popolo on Saturday, and I must say, those Italian ladies really know their plies! After the class, I was surrounded by local Romans asking about my tutu – they were absolutely fascinated. We shared laughs, danced a little, and it really felt like we had formed a special connection. It was proof, yet again, that the universal language of dance can unite people from all over the world.
Rome: A Culinary Delight for Every Palette
It’s impossible to leave Rome without indulging in its delectable culinary offerings. My stomach has been in utter heaven! I tried a classic carbonara, stuffed with pancetta and creamy cheese (oh so delicious!) – you have to try the one in my favourite hidden Trattoria off of the Piazza Navona - absolutely divine! I savoured the traditional tiramisu, rich with espresso and creamy mascarpone, and sipped on the freshest cappuccino. There is no better way to start a morning. It’s clear why Italian cuisine is renowned all over the world - the flavours are just exquisite, and they showcase the passion and pride of the people who create them.
Pink Tutu Rome: More to Come
Well, darlings, I must confess that this whirlwind of pink in the Eternal City is just the beginning of my Italian adventure. Next week, I’m heading to Florence! (The shopping is just too good to miss, and I've already spotted a beautiful vintage ballet tutu in a little shop I discovered). Stay tuned to www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday, and join me as we dance our way through Italy's exquisite fashion scene, its culinary delights, and of course, its incredible ballet performances.
Until next week, keep swirling in style and spread some pink tutu love!
With all my love,
Emma xoxo
