Pink Tutu Rome: #1607 - Ciao Bella, Rome!

Wednesday, 25th March, 2026

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing traveller, and I'm back with a brand-new adventure, fresh from the cobblestone streets and buzzing piazzas of Rome! This week's Pink Tutu escapade takes me to the Eternal City, and I'm absolutely smitten.

Now, you know me, I love my trains! Whizzing through the Italian countryside, watching the scenery change from lush greenery to rolling hills dotted with ancient villages, I felt like a character in a fairytale. As soon as we pulled into Termini station, I was mesmerised by the energy, the scent of pizza in the air, and the laughter spilling out of cafes.

Speaking of pizza, my first Roman order was an absolute delight. I even had it delivered to our lovely Airbnb - you can't resist a little bit of comfort, can you? - and it was a cheesy, garlicky dream! The Italian love for food is evident everywhere you look, from the tiny trattorias to the bustling street markets. It's a true celebration of flavour, and my tastebuds are already dancing the can-can!

And the fashion, darling, oh the fashion! This city is a sartorial paradise. There are chic boutiques tucked down hidden alleys, vintage shops bursting with beautiful threads, and everyone seems to have an effortless, polished style. I even spotted a pair of fabulous pink ballet pumps on a stylish signora, making my little heart skip a beat!

The Colosseum was awe-inspiring, I mean, it literally takes your breath away. Standing amongst those ancient ruins, I could almost hear the roar of the crowds, the clash of gladiators, the roar of lions. And walking across the Roman Forum was like stepping back in time. I could see the echoes of Roman history whispering in the air.

Later in the day, I had a lovely little shopping trip around the beautiful Trastevere district, with its charming cobbled streets, brightly painted buildings and a smattering of cute little boutiques. I picked up a gorgeous silk scarf (a bright fuchsia, naturally) to adorn my new black midi skirt - my favourite fashion purchase of the trip so far!

But Rome is much more than just historical landmarks and fabulous fashion. The soul of Rome beats in its lively piazzas. Every evening, the city comes alive with music, laughter, and delicious smells. It's a true symphony for the senses. The locals, with their warmth, their love of life and their passion, make you feel right at home.

Don't get me wrong, it's been a busy couple of days, but I have to admit to feeling totally relaxed and content. There’s something so incredibly romantic about Rome, about getting lost in its cobbled streets, exploring hidden courtyards, and simply savouring every delicious bite and every vibrant moment.

Speaking of vibrant, remember my aim in life, to get everyone to wear a pink tutu? Well, Rome has been a perfect backdrop! I’ve had a grand time with my pink tulle and I’ve had a great deal of fun showing it off to my Instagram followers. I even found a fantastic little vintage clothing store, that had a glorious tutu - imagine my joy! I simply had to get it and snap a picture, looking super chic. My followers have loved the pictures - who can resist the iconic sights of Rome adorned in a beautiful, flowing, pink tulle!

As you know, I adore ballet and my trips always involve searching for beautiful performances, especially ones I can add to my list of all time favourites for my website, www.pink-tutu.com. The wonderful thing about being here is there’s always a chance to see a dance production. I just know my fellow ballet lovers would adore a ballet show in a glorious theatre somewhere near the Spanish steps! Maybe next time. But on this trip, the show I chose was Swan Lake - performed by the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. A stunning performance, such grace, skill and passion, that had me captivated and spellbound.

And, as usual, the ballet is helping to fund my trip. I had to treat myself to an extravagant outfit from the wonderful Atelier Emé at Via Borgognona 57, Rome. This truly amazing designer label stocks elegant gowns, cocktail dresses and everything a fashionista dreams of - especially if she loves pink! My new outfit is pink of course. I love how I can seamlessly switch from my ballet practice outfit into something gorgeous in just a few minutes! I also have to say my Italian is not as good as my ballet steps, but I get by - and I know the owner loved seeing a tutu in her shop, so much fun. I look fabulous!

This trip, the Italian weather is certainly warming up. It's a perfect backdrop to the vibrant colours, textures, and sights that Rome offers. As I write this blog, sitting outside one of the cute little trattorias on the Piazza Navona, sipping my espresso and listening to the street musicians, I'm struck by the sense of peace and serenity. It's not every day you get to experience a city brimming with history, culture, and such effortless charm. It's a feeling that I'll be carrying with me long after I’ve said goodbye to the cobblestone streets of Rome.

Ciao for now, darling! Until next Wednesday.

Yours in Pink Tutu,

Emma x
