Buongiorno from the Eternal City! โ๏ธ
Can you believe it's been a whole year since I started my weekly "Pink Tutu" blog posts? It feels like a lifetime ago, back in those blustery Derbyshire days before I traded the Peak District for the dolce vita of Rome. And oh, the adventures I've had! From the majestic castles of Scotland to the charming cobbled streets of Prague, I've worn my pink tutu in some incredible places.
But Rome? Well, Rome is different. This ancient city feels like it pulsates with history, culture, and โ importantly โ fashion. From the first glimpse of the Colosseum through the train window, my heart skipped a beat. It was like stepping onto the stage of a giant historical drama! ๐ญ
This week's adventure, my darling #PinkTutuRome fans, was a whirlwind tour of the city, starting with a gorgeous Italian breakfast at a quaint little cafรฉ right by the Trevi Fountain. Honestly, can you even imagine a more picturesque location for a cup of cappuccino and a pastry? It was the perfect start to a day full of exploring.
My trusty pink tutu was a welcome sight, particularly amongst the endless hordes of tourists. I even spotted a few very stylish Roman ladies rocking tutus in pastel colours โ a sign, perhaps, that the tutu revolution is spreading beyond the UK! ๐
Speaking of fashion, the streets of Rome are a shopper's paradise! My trusty map (yes, I still prefer paper maps, thank you very much) led me to Via Condotti, the heart of Italian luxury. I mean, honestly, the amount of designer shops and chic boutiques here is enough to make your head spin! ๐ And my little heart almost skipped a beat when I stumbled upon a vintage clothing shop full of the most incredible 1950s dresses - sigh I definitely had to indulge in a little retail therapy! (That gorgeous silk dress you saw in my Insta story is proof!)
Let's talk Ballet! ๐ฉฐ
Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a taste of their legendary opera and ballet scene. This weekend, I'll be treating myself to an evening at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I hear they're putting on a beautiful production of Giselle, and I simply cannot wait. Imagine, the grand baroque architecture, the sumptuous costumes, the haunting melodies โ this is the real deal, my lovelies! I'm even going to see if I can sneak in a quick photo with the dancers during curtain call. You know, for you! ๐
Did I tell you about the train journey?
One thing I absolutely love about traveling is the journey itself. This week's train ride from Derbyshire was, again, magical. It's something I really value; the freedom to travel by train, watching the world go by, reading a good book, listening to music, people-watching... It's a peaceful retreat and gives me inspiration for new blog ideas!
For tonight's dinner, I'm trying out a tiny little restaurant called La Tavernaccia, near the Pantheon. They're famed for their incredible homemade pasta and traditional Roman dishes. I've got my eye on the carbonara. I mean, just imagining the creamy sauce and salty pancetta... heaven! I'll let you know what I think in my next blog post!
Oh! I forgot to mention something else, very important, you see? Pink Power! Everywhere I go in Rome, people have been incredibly receptive to my pink tutu! You can imagine, wearing a vibrant pink tutu in a city with such a strong and historical presence is quite bold! But it's been amazing. People stop me for pictures, they compliment my style, they even want to try on my tutu! This, my friends, is the true magic of the pink tutu: bringing people together in laughter, joy, and shared experiences. ๐ฅฐ
To be continued...
Until next week, my lovelies!
