Oxford Bound: Feathers and Flouncy Fun! (Post #30)
Hey lovelies! It's Emma, your resident tutu enthusiast, and I'm buzzing with excitement! I've just arrived in the beautiful city of Oxford, and let me tell you, I feel like I've stepped into a Jane Austen novel – just swap the ballgowns for a rather fabulous feather tutu. 😉
You know me, always up for a new adventure, and Oxford was calling. There's just something magical about this university town, a real blend of old-world charm and intellectual vibrancy. The cobblestone streets, the towering buildings, the quiet murmur of history – it's simply enchanting!
A Whimsical Journey by Rail
I opted for the train journey this time – a classic British adventure! There's nothing quite like a leisurely train ride, gazing out the window as the scenery unfolds. I even managed to snag a window seat – bonus points for soaking up the sunshine and pretending I'm a princess in a film! (Seriously, just picture it: feathered tutu, floppy hat, sun shining... perfection!)
Feather Tutu: Oxford Edition
Naturally, I had to pack my very special feather tutu. It's this gorgeous, vintage creation, all swirling pink feathers and intricate beading. I've always felt a special connection with it; it's like a little piece of theatre history that whispers stories of balletic elegance.
This tutu has already attracted quite the attention in Oxford, especially among the students. I had a charming young man, studying literature I think, approach me to tell me how "breathtaking" it was. Apparently, it reminds him of a story by Oscar Wilde! (Just a side note, Oxford is definitely doing wonders for my ego, all these compliments... maybe I should stay here forever!)
Ballet Heaven!
Of course, the main reason for my Oxford trip was a little ballet pilgrimage! The city boasts a stunning theatre with a truly incredible reputation. I can't give away any spoilers, but let's just say it was a whirlwind of pirouettes, arabesques, and all the heart-stopping beauty of a perfectly executed ballet. And I might have shed a tear or two during the finale... I’m a bit of a softie when it comes to ballet, can you tell?
Pink Flamingo: Nature's Dancer
But it wasn't all about tutus and performances – I also had a chance to get my nature fix! I ventured out to the beautiful countryside surrounding Oxford and stumbled upon a flock of pink flamingos! Can you believe it?
Those flamingos, they're truly nature's dancers, gliding through the water with such grace. It made me think, they really are the original ballet stars! If I had the opportunity to dress a flamingo in a pink tutu... well, the world would have its head in its beak, wouldn't it? (Perhaps this is a project for another post... hint, hint! )
Tutu Tips for Oxford
Now, for those of you considering a tutu-filled Oxford adventure, I’ve got a few top tips!
- Pick the Perfect Outfit: This one’s a no-brainer. Feather tutu, sunshine, vintage-inspired outfit... it’s the quintessential Oxford look.
- Embark on a Canal Cruise: Take a leisurely stroll along the canals, or even try a gondola ride. You'll be surrounded by scenic beauty and plenty of photo opportunities – remember those gorgeous angles, ladies!
- Wander through the Markets: Oxford is home to vibrant farmers’ markets and vintage clothing stalls, bursting with hidden treasures. You’re bound to find that special something – a pink hairband? A miniature replica of your favourite tutu? Maybe a new book for your collection? It’s the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere and perhaps even spot a future dance partner! (You know I'm a hopeless romantic!)
- Fuel Up on Cakes: This is my personal rule – no trip is complete without indulging in some decadent cakes! Luckily, Oxford is overflowing with charming tearooms and patisseries. Treat yourself to a slice of deliciousness while admiring the scenery. After all, a ballet dancer needs her energy, right?
A Tutu for Everyone?
I’ll keep it real for a minute, loves. I'm constantly thinking about my mission: inspiring everyone to embrace the joy and freedom of dance. Maybe it’s a crazy ambition, but I dream of a world where tutus are no longer just for dancers. I picture little girls twirling around in pink tutus at birthday parties, men confidently striking a ballet pose on a Friday night out... It’s about embracing that playful, energetic, and downright joyful energy that ballet brings.
Oxford has really filled me up with this passion! It's such a whimsical, creative place. Who knows, maybe I’ll even write my first novel about a tutu-wearing flamingo… just think of the possibilities!
Don't forget, check back in tomorrow for more pink tutu fun!
Lots of love,
Emma x
