Hey everyone!
It’s Emma here, writing to you from the lovely little town of Kirkby, nestled right in the heart of Nottinghamshire! I’ve just arrived after a charming journey by train (the journey is just as much a part of the fun, wouldn’t you agree?) This little trip has me feeling absolutely bursting with excitement. You see, Kirkby is a town steeped in theatrical history, and I'm on a mission to uncover some hidden gems and maybe even catch a fabulous show!
But first, a little update on my fashion journey:
I couldn't resist packing my favourite European-style tutu for this adventure. It’s a beauty – all layers of airy tulle, in a gorgeous shade of blush pink. It has a touch of sparkle around the waist and it twirls like a dream. The perfect blend of classic elegance with a hint of modern flair. I think it's perfect for embracing the spirit of Kirkby. I mean, who wouldn't feel fabulous in a tutu, even if they weren't heading to a ballet performance? It’s like a personal pep talk, wrapped up in pretty pink tulle, you know?
My first stop today is a lovely little tea shop I found on the High Street called "The Buttercup Cafe." They serve the most delightful pastries and tea (think lemon drizzle cake, delicate finger sandwiches and an abundance of floral teapots – oh the pretty!). The cafe has this charming old-world charm to it. It feels like stepping straight into a classic Jane Austen novel. I think a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake with a view of the old town is a great way to kick off my day, don't you think?
The streets here are simply delightful. The charming buildings with their old-fashioned signs and narrow cobbled streets, the delightful antique shops spilling over with curious treasures - I've found some vintage costume jewellery and a few whimsical china ornaments to add a little vintage flair to my apartment back in Derbyshire.
Of course, no trip to a town with a rich theatrical history is complete without a visit to the theatre itself! The Kirkby Theatre is a beautiful old building, with a stunning interior, adorned with golden embellishments and velvet seating. You just have to imagine all the stories that have been brought to life within its walls over the years. I can't wait to sit in those plush velvet seats tonight and soak up the atmosphere.
My main goal, however, is to immerse myself in the spirit of theatre. So I've joined a ballet class at a small studio called “The Twirling Fairy” just down the road. The teacher, a beautiful, strong lady with an infectious laugh and eyes that sparkle with the passion for ballet, made me feel welcome and gave me a fabulous workout.
For the final day of my Kirkby adventure, I've planned a visit to the gorgeous Kirkby Park. I've heard it's full of peaceful pathways, wildflower meadows and enchanting woodland. I'm bringing a picnic basket filled with homemade sandwiches (strawberry jam and cream, of course) and some fresh fruit, and I might even take a little stroll by the lake. Who knows? I might even spot a deer or a pair of majestic swans!
After all, ballet isn't just about elegant leaps and delicate pirouettes. It's also about graceful movement and finding beauty in the unexpected - like the silent majesty of a bird in flight or a vibrant butterfly landing on a petal of a rose.
This trip has definitely filled me with inspiration and has reignited my passion for all things dance. I can't wait to bring this new energy and joy back with me to my next ballet performance and share it with my fellow dance lovers.
Before I leave, remember, I believe everyone deserves to wear a pink tutu, and I'd love for everyone to discover the magic of ballet, whether it's a traditional performance at a grand theatre or the graceful sway of a ballet class at your local community center.
Remember, darling, the most beautiful stage is the one you create in your heart! And I can't wait to hear what adventures you are embarking on in your own fabulous tutus!
Till next time,
Emma xx
