Frome Fancy: A Tutu-tiful Time in Somerset

#TutuBlog 2025-05-25 - Post 10553

Hello, my lovely Tutu Tribe! It’s Emma here, back from another adventure, this time nestled in the heart of Somerset, the enchanting town of Frome. Oh, how I adore the British countryside! It’s like stepping into a romantic novel – charming cottages, quaint tea rooms, and even the occasional flock of sheep greeting me on my way to… you guessed it… ballet class!

Speaking of ballet, this past week has been a whirl of twirls and plies. Frome has this little independent ballet studio called ‘Twirling Time’ hidden away in a quiet courtyard, and I fell in love with it instantly. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and the instructor, Ms. Penny, is just a darling. We even did a beautiful pas de deux with the local dancing donkeys - yes, you read that right! Turns out Frome has quite a unique attraction - a donkey sanctuary, and they have these incredibly sweet, furry friends who adore dancing along!

Now, my trip wouldn't be complete without a trip to the local theatre. I found this hidden gem of a playhouse with incredible history, and a breathtaking performance of Swan Lake that brought me to tears. I swear, I could have danced with the swans on stage myself, but I guess I'll save that for the Royal Opera House - wink, wink. 😉

I couldn't have imagined a more perfect backdrop for my adventures in Somerset than the majestic Avon Valley. Oh, the views! So idyllic, rolling hills dotted with lavender fields and charming stone bridges. It was like a fairy tale painting coming to life, and I, of course, felt obligated to document it all with my trusty vintage Polaroid. (Remember, if it's not documented in a Polaroid, did it even happen?)

Speaking of Polaroid, my lovelies, you'll be seeing some lovely shots of my trip soon. Be sure to check out my #FromeFashion post on Instagram – it features a new, bright fuchsia leotard that's truly calling for a pas de deux with the springtime sunshine. Speaking of fuchsia… it’s quite the colour trend in Frome! It’s actually popping up everywhere, on doorsteps, market stalls, even on a playful parrot I saw at a local pet shop. 🦜 Pink, pink, pink - everywhere I look!

A part of me wishes I could wear my beloved pink tutu every single day, wouldn’t that be something? Wouldn’t the world be such a happier place with everyone twirling about in tulle? It's truly a vision I'm dedicated to spreading.

This week in Somerset, I've discovered so much that Frome is a little slice of paradise, just waiting to be explored. The people here are incredibly friendly, and the food, my goodness, the food! Every bite was a delight, from the fresh sourdough at the farmers' market to the traditional Somerset cider - pure heaven! And of course, I sampled some delightful lavender fudge – perfect for my pink-tinted taste buds!

While it was incredibly tempting to grab a steaming cup of tea at every café I saw (I swear they smell of vanilla and happiness), I had to keep my inner fashionista in check, for my ultimate destination this trip: the annual Somerset Dressage and Jumping Show. This grand equestrian spectacle is truly the cherry on top of this amazing week.

Have you ever felt the thrill of horse and rider working in perfect unison, navigating intricate jumps and performing breathtaking maneuvers? The atmosphere at this event is buzzing! I couldn’t resist grabbing a horse and showing off my signature twirls. (Don’t worry, darling, my equestrian skills are more ballet-inspired than riding-school perfect. 😉 I mean, who needs fancy dressage when you can do the ‘Tutu Trot’? I tell you, a full-on twirl in my sparkly pink tutu and I have everyone on the edge of their seats - and quite a few double takes too.

Of course, the perfect day at a horse show would be incomplete without some delicious gourmet ice cream, a good dose of sun, and the sweet symphony of happy hoofs clomping along. Who would have thought my ballet obsession could bring me to the countryside, filled with horse shows and lavender fields? That’s what I love about life – it’s filled with these unexpected twirls and unexpected wonders!

And speaking of wonders, I’ve been indulging my love for wildlife. Frome is bursting with beautiful nature trails, a true paradise for nature-lovers and ballet bunnies alike. My latest discovery? The gorgeous Somerset Levels. This network of marshlands, meadows, and flooded grasslands is truly breathtaking, especially when the morning sun dips low across the mist and turns everything golden. And of course, my beloved wildlife friend, the majestic heron, graced me with its presence, a feathered ballet dancer soaring across the sky. It's moments like these that truly remind me of the simple joy of nature. It's like nature itself is giving me a gentle pirouette lesson! And who wouldn’t want to dance in the moonlight under a starry sky with a backdrop of lush countryside? Just picturing it now brings me so much joy.

Now, as the day draws to a close, I bid farewell to Somerset and its enchanting magic. It's time to board my trusty vintage steam train, the ‘Avon Valley Express’. Oh, the nostalgia, the creaky wood paneling, the scent of coal and aged leather – it’s all just so delightfully romantic! I'm off to dream of twirling donkeys, graceful horses, pink-tinged sunsets and the next chapter of my ‘pink-tutu’ journey!

Until next time, darling. Be sure to stay twirling, spread kindness, and don’t forget to follow me at www.pink-tutu.com – you can also catch me on Instagram (@emmaspinktutu) – and be sure to tag me in your pinkest pics, especially if you're embracing a ballet moment. 🩰 Until next time! Lots of love,

Emma xo
