Hey Tutu Lovers! ๐
It's Emma here, signing in from the lovely town of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. I'm already on post number 10620, can you believe it? Seems like only yesterday I was a little Derbyshire girl with a dream, and now I'm travelling the world, spreading the joy of ballet and, of course, rocking a pink tutu at every turn. ๐
Today's adventure is all about a charming town with a rich history โ High Wycombe. This place is famed for its beautiful architecture, its furniture heritage, and its, well, elegance. I have to say, the town vibes totally align with my love for all things chic.
Train Travels and Timeless Beauty
I arrived in High Wycombe by train, which, let's face it, is just the most civilised way to travel. You can enjoy the scenery, lose yourself in a good book, and people-watch (sometimes with hilarious results, especially in London, you just never know!). I found myself right at the heart of the town, ready to explore.
First things first โ a classic afternoon tea. How can you come to a town known for its craftsmanship and design without indulging in some quintessentially English delights? I tucked into delicate finger sandwiches, mouth-watering cakes, and, of course, lashings of tea, all surrounded by gorgeous vintage furniture in a truly elegant setting.
From Tutus to Teak: A Town With Soul
After my delightful tea, I wandered through the heart of the town. High Wycombe has such a beautiful, almost whimsical feel to it. The architecture is breathtaking, and the whole place just has an atmosphere of creativity and history that's infectious. I felt inspired simply by walking through its streets, feeling the energy of those who had built this town.
As I explored, I was immediately drawn to the Wycombe Museum. The place is chock-a-block with exhibits on furniture making, especially chairs โ apparently, High Wycombe is known as the 'chair-making capital of the world' (who knew?). I was captivated by the stories of master craftsmen, and seeing the evolution of furniture making from centuries ago, even finding a room showcasing Victorian fashion โ very much on theme with my love for beautiful clothes!
Ballet Beyond the Studio
Naturally, I couldn't come to a town steeped in history and culture without searching out the local ballet scene. High Wycombe, being in the heart of the Thames Valley, seems to be teeming with passionate performers! It turns out they even have an annual Dance Festival with amazing workshops and classes.
It would be rude not to throw a few pirouettes, so I managed to squeeze in a drop-in class with a local ballet studio. Talk about an absolute joy! The space was beautiful, the instructor was inspiring, and the energy in the room was just infectious. Let's just say I walked out feeling like I was ready to conquer the world โ or at least the dance floor!
Pink Tutus in Picturesque Places
Now, I've worn my trusty pink tutu around many of the world's iconic places, from the Eiffel Tower to the Great Wall of China. But High Wycombe's beauty had me yearning to showcase it, too.
I posed outside some stunning, old Victorian homes, capturing the architecture's elegance in a way that truly highlighted the beauty of this unique town. Let's face it โ my tutu is always photogenic. I had to take advantage of the picturesque, tree-lined streets and the beautiful cobblestones โ all perfectly framed with the magic of pink tulle, of course.
And no journey would be complete without a shot by the local park's beautiful rose gardens โ the quintessential English garden experience! A bit of pink tulle amongst those blushing roses โ what could be more fitting for my #pinktutu travel blog?!
High Wycombe's Hidden Gems
There are more hidden gems to uncover here โ an artist's haven known as the Rye, for example. This vibrant place is home to the Rye Art Gallery and is a great place for artists, crafters, and those just seeking a bit of inspiration.
I even managed to visit the charming Hughenden Manor, a historic estate once home to the celebrated British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, who actually used to go to High Wycombe for theatre. How serendipitous, considering my love for both stage and, you guessed it, history!
