Chelmsford Calling: Tutu Tales & Train Travels

Hey lovely lot! It's Emma here, signing in from the charming town of Chelmsford, and let me tell you, this place is absolutely buzzing with life! The sun is shining, the air is full of the sweet scent of summer, and even the pigeons seem to be strutting with a bit more pep in their step.

Now, I know what you're thinking – "Chelmsford? Emma, darling, surely there's nothing there but a load of… well, you know…"

But I'm here to tell you, Chelmsford is absolutely rocking! It’s a proper gem in the crown of Essex, boasting a fantastic sense of history and an unexpected modern charm. And of course, a certain fabulous ballet dancer needs to do some serious tutushopping!

After all, it's all about embracing new adventures, exploring the beauty of this beautiful country, and sharing it with you all – it’s a bit of a mission in my life! It’s been a wild week, filled with twirls, train rides, and a whole lot of pink, as usual! Let me spill the tea!

A Day in a Tutu – It’s Got To Be Pink!

The train journey up was, as always, an absolute joy. You know how much I love a good train ride, and it doesn’t get much better than rolling into the station, feeling that gentle sway, the gentle rhythmic clinking and clacking of the rails and the scenery just zipping by… it always takes me to a different, magical place! And for this journey, I was wearing my brightest pink tutu. And the sun really seemed to love it, bathing the train in its sunshine-y warmth, with rays reflecting on the sparkly fabric! My passengers couldn't help but smile and the journey was so much more exciting.

Upon arrival in Chelmsford, I had to go straight to Chelmsford’s historic cathedral. Such an incredible structure! You wouldn’t believe the detail - ornate architecture, beautifully preserved – absolutely stunning. I even had to go back in and explore again later - once I had indulged in my favourite pastime...shopping, of course! It’s a tough job being a pink tutu-loving ballet dancer – someone’s got to keep the nation stylish and well-dressed! And of course, my travels are no exception, every trip demands a little tutu time!

Tutus, Theatres and The Chelmsford City Centre

I found the best little shop in Chelmsford city centre called Little Ballerina. Not only was the tutu selection just magnificent but they even had all the best pink dance shoes. My feet will thank me for this shopping trip! You all know I'm always on the lookout for that perfect shade of pink, the one that truly sings in my heart!

Later that evening, I finally managed to catch the show at the Chelmsford Civic Theatre. It was a dazzling rendition of The Nutcracker, and the dancers were absolutely brilliant! There were some breathtaking movements and a performance by the orchestra that almost brought tears to my eyes. There’s nothing like seeing real ballet magic – I have to give huge respect to those incredible athletes! And after a delicious cream tea in a cosy café afterwards – (just think: pink icing and strawberry jam – my heart was simply bursting with joy!), it felt like a truly perfect day!

Nature and Nurturing – Taking Time to Breathe!

Of course, no trip to Chelmsford is complete without a visit to its magnificent Hylands Park. A place full of sprawling greenery, peaceful ponds and vibrant flora - absolutely glorious. And of course, I went full ballerina - pirouette and arabesque with the ducklings who’d been exploring the pond with their mom! The morning sun, the peaceful atmosphere - I had to have a little rest amongst the roses and flower beds.

But it wasn't just all about tutus and tea! I did a bit of wildlife spotting as well! The park's got this gorgeous nature trail with the most incredible wildlife. I even spotted a fox scurrying through the bushes and an old, majestic owl perched on a branch. It was truly awe-inspiring! I absolutely love the beautiful calm, restorative peace nature can bring - you get to forget all those silly, mundane problems that try to sneak into your brain - and let your mind truly rest.

Chelmsford Dreams and Inspiration – A City to Adore!

I spent the rest of the evening at a fantastic outdoor performance by a local dance troupe, with beautiful ballet and some wonderful street dance thrown into the mix. All under the stars with the most gorgeous moon. It reminded me of those childhood evenings - and how wonderful it would be if everyone could get lost in those magic, twirling movements that ballet brings to life! You know it’s the passion that truly makes you feel the magic in the heart of every performance.

Honestly, this trip to Chelmsford was more than I ever imagined! I must say, it was even better than my usual explorations! A wonderful place filled with magic, historical charm, stunning nature, beautiful performance arts, and people with that wonderful, happy and relaxed Essex vibe – there’s a lot to love here!

I’m going to try and make sure this town is a stop on my next UK tour - there’s definitely room for many more tutus and ballet inspiration! You’ve got to come and see for yourself. If you find yourself with a little time, head down and see what makes this charming little town such a delightful treat!

Love and happy twirls,

Emma xoxo
