Hello, darlings! Itās your girl Emma, and guess what? Iām in Boston! You know I love a good travel adventure, and this one is extra special, not least because Boston is known as the "Cradle of Liberty." Freedom is definitely my thing, especially the freedom to twirl in a pink tutu anywhere and everywhere, so this trip felt just right!
I hopped on a train straight from Derbyshire - I canāt resist a good rail journey, even though it took a bit longer than usual thanks to a charming flock of sheep who decided to take a leisurely stroll across the tracks. No worries though, I took the opportunity to practice my barre exercises - my travelling tutu ensemble just begs to be used for a bit of ballet!
Now, Boston is full of historic charm, and that's something I can really get behind. But my main focus here is the fabulous ballet scene. You know I'm obsessed with seeing live performances, whether it's on a grand stage or a charming little theatre, and I'm determined to see it all!
This trip started with a truly special treat. The Boston Ballet Company put on a production of "Swan Lake" last night. Now, I've seen Swan Lake performed dozens of times in various forms, but I must say this version really wowed me. The costumes were exquisitely beautiful, with some particularly breathtaking designs for the swans. I'm talking intricate, shimmering feathers that seemed to flow with the dancers' every movement. You could say I was captivated!
I even got to visit a few dance studios around town. I know what you're thinking: "Emma, surely you canāt resist a little ballet class while you're in Boston?" You betcha! I threw on my most sparkly tutu (you know the one - the pink tulle one with the silver sparkles!), got my barre routine down pat, and let the endorphins flow! A beautiful studio in the heart of Boston provided the perfect space for my dance practice.
Letās talk about tutus, shall we? Because really, this blog wouldnāt exist if it wasnāt about tutus. While exploring Boston, I happened upon the most darling little boutique shop - The Pink Tutu - (seriously, it almost felt like it was meant to be). It was chock full of colourful, whimsical tutus, just the kind you'd imagine for a magical ballet storybook. I almost cried, I loved it so much! Naturally, I just had to add another pink tutu to my collection. Itās the perfect one to add some āBoston sparkleā to my dance wardrobe. You canāt imagine how excited I am about rocking this new beauty in the next blog post - I'm picturing a stroll along the Charles River, pink tutu and all, to take in the autumn scenery!
Don't worry, my dear readers, Iāve made sure to leave room in my luggage for a souvenir or two. A miniature liberty bell for my desk, a little teapot from a Boston tea party inspired cafe, and maybe even a small, hand-crafted whale to remind me of my time here. Whales are amazing, arenāt they? I think the pink tutu looks very nice against a background of wildlife.
Thereās no place quite like Boston when it comes to merging the old and the new. Here, historic cobblestone streets lead to vibrant cafes, and stunning old architecture is juxtaposed with modern art installations. But honestly, nothing beats a graceful ballet performance under the lights of a grand theatre, and for that reason alone, Boston is firmly at the top of my list of favourite destinations.
One last thing! My mission to make everyone wear pink tutus isn't slowing down. As I write this blog post, Iām watching the local ballet school practice through the window of my hotel room, and the sight fills me with a joy that I just can't explain. There's such pure magic in every graceful pirouette, every perfect pliĆ©, every leap. That feeling of pure artistry is just⦠divine.
Remember, everyone has a story, and I believe everyone should try ballet. And that story might even involve a fabulous, pink tutu.
Until next time, darlings! Stay sparkling!
Yours in Pink Tutus,
Emma xx
