Hey lovely lot,
It's your girl Emma, reporting live from sunny Hammersmith! š It's so good to be back in the big smoke - even if the trains were a little temperamental today. I know, I know, the drama! I actually managed to avoid the London Underground entirely this time (who else hates those carriages, with the perpetual scent of⦠erm⦠London?). Instead, I opted for the romantic charm of a horse-drawn carriage from Victoria Station. Talk about arriving in style! š
Anyway, I digress! Today's post is number 10891 (who would have thought!), and Iām all about sharing the fabulous time I've had exploring the vibrant culture and, of course, the dance scene in Hammersmith. Oh, and it wouldnāt be a post without a good old fashion Tutu Alert! But let's start with the sceneryā¦
Hammersmith: More than Just a Station! As soon as I stepped out of the carriage, the cityās rhythm immediately captivated me. Forget your stereotypical 'grey' London; this part of town bursts with vibrant hues - and the colours are so welcoming! The street markets overflowed with colours, smells, and laughter, reminding me of my little town in Derbyshire, only, well, on a much grander scale! Thereās something about bustling crowds that instantly lifts the spirits.
My little pink tote bag, the one with the embroidered ballerina on it, danced along the streets, full of excitement, just as I was! š©° But more about my fashion later. Right now, we need to discuss the main eventā¦
Hammersmith Apollo: The Big Show!Yes, my friends, it was all about the Apollo tonight! It's been my favourite London venue since I was a little ballerina-in-training (remember my post on childhood dreams? Itās probably number 173 - head to www.pink-tutu.com for a stroll down memory lane!). This iconic theatre always boasts such a stellar lineup of performers. I could spend hours just browsing the list of artists who've graced its stage ā legends!
And tonight's show didnāt disappoint. A fabulous ballet performance by The Royal Ballet, featuring my absolute favourite piece, āGiselleā. There's nothing more breathtaking than the raw emotion, technical brilliance, and effortless elegance of a classical ballet performance, especially when accompanied by the glorious grandeur of the Hammersmith Apollo. It truly transported me.
But for me, what truly brought the magic to life was the costumes! Now, let's be honest, a good ballerinaās wardrobe is a thing of pure joy - think sparkles, silk, and intricate embellishments! It's enough to make even the most pragmatic person dream of a life of pirouettes and twirling. But this was a truly memorable ensemble: The ballerina who played Giselle was the vision in a breathtaking white tutu. It was everything. I practically wanted to snatch it off her for a twirl myself! š
The Tutu Alert šØ!As I said, itās almost criminal for me not to showcase the outfit I picked for my Hammersmith adventure. So, brace yourselves ā Tutu Alert inbound!
Think bright pink silk. Think ruffles and bows. Think a touch of whimsical sparkle! You know me ā always going for a statement piece that wouldnāt look out of place on a theatre stage, even if my dance moves are decidedly less graceful in the real world. š
For my London jaunt, I couldn't resist rocking a ballet-inspired midi dress, complete with a voluminous pink tutu skirt and a dainty silk top. I topped it off with my beloved pink, velvet ribbon headband (always have to match my ensemble, donāt I? ) and my pink Mary-Jane flats with pearl embellishments. All in all, a look that was quintessentially me - fun, feminine, and ready to conquer the streets of London!
And, yes, of course, the piĆØce de rĆ©sistance ā my custom-designed ballet bag (also pink, obviously) slung over my shoulder, ready to hold all my ballet necessities ā because a true ballerina never leaves home without her ballet gear. This bad boy had my pointe shoes, a change of outfit (pink, of course!), a mini makeup kit for a touch of glamour, and my personal favourite book, āGiselle - a History of Balletā, in case the inspiration strikes mid-trip.
The whole ensemble was an absolute dream. Honestly, I wouldnāt have felt comfortable exploring Hammersmith in anything less. This is me, unapologetically myself. A girl who canāt be stopped in her quest for making the world a little brighter with pink tutus! š©°āØ
A Glimpse of Local Life - It's All in the Details!Once the curtains closed on the ballet, I decided to explore the streets. That's what I love about travelling, discovering the hidden gems. In Hammersmith, it's not about the big tourist traps, but about experiencing local life ā and boy, is it full of charm!
My senses were tingling, taking in the energy and rhythm of this eclectic neighborhood. The sweet scent of fresh pastries wafted from independent bakeries, the hum of a bustling pub, filled with laughter, the vibrant graffiti on the wallsā¦
Hammersmith also has a delightful artsy side. I stumbled upon a hidden art gallery ā you can't even see it from the road, which only made it more exciting! The gallery itself was as beautiful as any museum. They have an extraordinary selection of modern art and sculptures. Some of them reminded me of dance moves, in a way. It made me think about ballet as a form of art in itself. I took my usual photos ā it's essential for the Pink Tutu archive, you know. š
Then, I decided it was time for a bit of relaxation in a quiet little tea room. They had a terrace overlooking the River Thames. The air was alive with the chirping of birds and the gentle sounds of a lazy river.
And to top it all off, a Pink Tutu selfie - as always, youāve got to capture these moments for the memory lane! Iām adding it to the blog for you, my darling readers, so you can see the magnificence for yourselves!
From Big Dreams to the Big SmokeLooking back, this journey was exactly what my soul needed. Thereās nothing more refreshing than exploring a new part of the world, discovering local hidden gems and breathing in the cityās magic. And even if the weather's a bit temperamental (don't forget my lovely Derbyshire is far sunnier - sometimes!), thereās always a bit of Pink Tutu magic that will make any place feel magical!
And now for my closing thoughts⦠This adventure in Hammersmith reinforced what my mission is: to bring the pink tutu magic to the world. If I can inspire a few more souls to don a tutu, and take that first step onto the dance floor, or try a new art form, that is true success, my loves. We are all meant to create and be our own fabulous, unique selves, and a good, pink, twirling, tutu can be the best companion to remind you of that! š
See you in my next post - probably from a charming, little French countryside village, where the air is filled with the sounds of classical music. Until next time, my darlings, be kind to yourselves, spread pink tutu joy, and always twirl like nobody's watching! š©°
Much love, Emma
