Hello my darling darlings! It's your girl Emma, back with you again from the magical land of... well, Hartlepool! It’s post number 10901, and it’s got me feeling like a total princess, just like the iconic ballet dancers we all know and love. (Did you know the average ballet dancer trains 6 hours per day, 6 days a week! My muscles ache just thinking about it.) Anyway, enough with the ballet history lesson, let's get into the heart of this amazing journey!
This week I decided to step outside the comfy confines of my little Derbyshire village and explore a bit. I adore my quaint little countryside life, but I get a bit of wanderlust every so often, and this week, it called for a seaside adventure. Hartlepool was calling, and with a trusty pink tutu nestled in my bag and a smile as bright as a summer's day, I hopped on the train for my trip!
Speaking of trains, isn't it the most glamorous way to travel? You know I'm a fan of all things whimsical, so arriving by train is truly the perfect way to start a ballet adventure. It's so much more romantic than those stuffy airplane journeys! It’s amazing how something as simple as a journey by train can stir so much creative inspiration! It's no surprise that the first thing I did once I stepped off the train was twirl - a quick ballet twirl to welcome myself to the coast!
Now, I love a good story, don't you? And you know I love sharing them. In Hartlepool, I met the most charming, witty character at the local bakery! Imagine a gentleman with the most delightful rosy cheeks, reminding me of a cheeky squirrel from the local nature reserve! This man was the heart of the town - warm, friendly and he could spin a yarn that would keep you captivated all night long!
As I munched on a scrumptious scone (don’t you think scone’s are underrated? I’ll definitely be writing a whole post on them next week) the gentleman told me about the most exciting thing going on in the town. Can you believe it, my lovelies? There was a ballet performance happening! I couldn't believe it. It was practically written in the stars for me. You could practically say it was my destiny to find it!
Oh, the thrill! This little coastal town, so far from my ballet classes in Derby, actually had its own beautiful ballet theatre. Can you imagine my joy! Now, my lovelies, it's not every day you find a full-blown ballet theatre in a charming seaside town, is it? The little theatre itself had a charm all of its own, like a delicate porcelain dollhouse. The air itself felt imbued with the graceful spirit of dance!
This theatre in Hartlepool was truly something special. The theatre, in its charmingly-run down state, felt so much more beautiful to me than some of the lavish grand theaters I've visited. I felt a deep sense of history here, almost as if it whispered to me about past generations of dancers, sharing their dreams with audiences just like me! It was a sight to behold, I'll tell you, and my trusty pink tutu and I felt like we belonged here, nestled in the heart of its magic.
You can bet I was dancing with excitement at this discovery. I was all set to join the local ballet class! You know how much I adore my weekly ballet class back in Derby – you can imagine how happy I was when I discovered this delightful dance class, full of bright and sunny students, and a charming teacher who had a passion for ballet as bright and passionate as a firework show.
Now, I'll tell you a secret, darling readers: It's all well and good to be able to gracefully dance in a studio with beautiful mirrored walls, but for me, there’s no thrill like dancing in the streets! So, my fellow adventurers, here’s what we did! We stepped out into the open air, took a deep breath of that wonderful salty sea air, and we danced! Right there on the pier, overlooking the endless, azure sea, my teal tutu twirled as I twirled in the warm breeze, a vibrant touch of pink amongst the grays and blues of the harbor!
We did an impromptu ballet street show right on the harbor! My dearest readers, my heart nearly skipped a beat when a few little boys, dressed in navy shorts, asked to learn ballet from me. It warmed my soul!
They learned how to do a simple pirouette! It was magical, and as a moment of utter joy and wonder! Now, my darling readers, can you imagine my glee when the adorable local dog even joined us in a mini pirouette?
You know I'm all about that positive vibe and getting everyone moving and feeling happy. So, my dear friends, I’ll have to say, after a delightful week exploring the harbor town of Hartlepool, I truly feel I’ve captured the spirit of dance and fun. You can never have too much happiness in your life. Why, dancing, as I learned during this week's adventures, can be found wherever life takes us.
Until next week, remember my dearest, it’s important to remember to find joy in the unexpected. Never forget the power of a little twirl.
Keep spreading the pink, my lovelies!
Emma xxx
